It is exceptionally kind of Annie and her husband to give your son those tools. It is things like this in life that really remind one that people are kind and generous at heart. Wonderful gifts.

I’d suggest putting an old door blank on your main entrance during construction. Replace when complete with your good door. This prevents dents, scrapes and damages during construction to your finish door

    😃whole vid thinking,
-bc Welker’s shared their farm with us as they grew the food we eat
-we fell in love with them(esp Coby…that might just be me)
    -kept watching
-you & Nick were able to save YT funds to build homes for your family(next generation farmers)
    Kinda amazing story.

@@RobertWelkerFarmerBob how many generations of your family has been farming? I’m a staunch supporter of American family owned farms(which is why I watch so many on YT) vs corporate farms owned by the CCP. Love seeing Scott & Nick adding new homesteads on the farm. I’m sure you’re very proud too.

When passing through a beam with your service runs, always cut your holes in the centre of the beam. It’s called the neutral axis and carries no load / stress / tension / compression (ref your accurate structural eng term)

We live in Central Virginia and built a house in 2012. We put in Rinnai tank less hot water heater and have not regretted it it once. We have three remote control pads, one in the kitchen and the others in bathrooms. I really like the fact you can set the water temp to whatever you're comfortable with and hop in the shower and turn on nothing but hot water. The water heats to your chosen setting and remains there while you shower. That way you are not heating the water to 120 degrees, or whatever, and then have to mix cold water in so you don't scald yourself. If it's a really hot day you set it lower and take a cool shower. If it's super cold, like it is in Montana, you can push the setting up to make it toasty warm. All with having to mix a bit of cold water to get to your comfort level. Plus you can have 3 people taking a shower at the same time, have the dishwasher and laundry going at the same time and never run out of hot water. You choose wisely by going the way you did. Merry Christmas and God bless from Virginia!

Came to Welkers Farm looking for tips on removing an axle on my old Chevy truck, stayed for a Big Bud rebuild, stayed for a semi truck rebuild, then farming, then a sprayer , then a spray trailer, then some farming. in between all kinds of grain and fertilizer storage. Gotta say the house building is the cherry on top, your doing a top notch job on what looks to be a beautiful home!

Hi Scott I don't understand why people have a reluctance to use an Instantaneous gas HWS, about 5 months ago I had a new one put in l
    Same make as yours.
My first one lasted approximately 20 years it was a Bosch, with pezo electric start rather than a pilot flame burning gas all the time. You will find that the biggest joy is never running out of hot water like you do with a storage unit, that is unless you run out of gas (propane)
The house is coming along very well, it's the start of a new chapter in your lives enjoy the experience.

I have an old farmhouse that I completely gutted. I had the exterior walls sprayed with closed cell foam. Besides insulating the foam gives the building more structural strength, creates a vapor barrier and helps to deaden noise. Insulating with fiberglass would have been tricky as the wall studs varied, as if the builders just guessed at 16" centers.

Unless Rinai has changed there flow control they will shut down on low flow ! Taking showers for me and the wife was not to good as you would suddenly get a cold shower. We had to turn on the hot faucet in the sink during showers . But you have made the right choice with the tankless. It cut down our gas a bunch! BTW the house looks awesome !!

The biggest thing about sweat joints is clean. I have seen them fail, just from oil from your hands. I managed a place in Lewistown a few years ago, and I had to pressure test it myself. Northwest Energy does not do it. In subzero temperatures, I used a spray bottle with Dawn, and windshield washer fluid. It would still bubble at -15f. That was the coldest I tried it at. The tankless is definitely the way to go. Limitless hot water, and less money out to the gas company.

I always say as farmers we have to know a little bit about enough to just make us dangerous. Little bit of vent work if you have livestock, little bit of carpenter work, little bit electrical work, little bit of plumbing work, a big amount of mechanic work. A big amount of heavy equipment operator work. Fair amount of truck driving work. It just seems like it never ends. But I've had people come to me and say how do you know that I don't know that, LOL I always say we just know a little bit about everything just enough to make us dangerous LOL. But I'm thankful that I've learned these things because someday I may need to do it and won't be able to either afford to have it done or find somebody that can do it! Wish you the best on your build Scott looks to me like you've got a wonderful contractor there and help from dad and brother you're going to have a home to be proud of there! Praying for you realize what a blessing this is.

    Hey Scott,
We installed that same tankless heater in my parents house. The suggestion that the gas company gave us is to put a timer on the circulation pump . That way during non peak times it won't constantly circulate water (and use gas to keep it at temp) during peak hours (mornings and evenings) you still have instant hot water but during non peak you may have to wait a few seconds to get hot water at the tap.
When the timer broke (faults to on) you should have seen their glass bill! But all in all great system and has saved them a bunch of money over normal 60gal tank (my house).
My parents could run the dishwasher, the washing machine and showers for 7 people at Christmas and still had hot water at the kitchen sink.
Glad the build is coming along. Not too much longer and you'll be cleaning the windows so y'all can move in

As a plumber I use tankless in my own house, endless hot water is great with lots of growing kids, we have really good water here in Seattle area. Check hardness of your water, maybe you will be doing a softener anyway, the harder the water the more descaling you will have to do on a tankless unit. Set it up for descaling and maintenance with set of isolation valves.

@@rickpederson1219 It increases the R value. You can google it but you have two different types of foam. Closed cell and open cell. The R value if higher on the closed cell but it is way more expensive. Most do what Leg Arms is doing going with a closed cell then using Batt insulation to increase the R value.

Just a thought, but i know you are already days into the water plumbing. It would be a good idea to put a valve(s) above each of the manifold valves to allow you to drain the line down to that bottom most manifold valve. Added cost with an additional valve and/or pipe, but leaves you with a line that would have no water in it to deal with while you repair it.

Only thing is the water heater exhaust in spec? I have one 90 and out the wall it goes because it required a short pipe and I think only 1 or 2 90s. Only issue I have had with my instant water heater is gas pressure in the winter the LP gets cold, you are on gas so hopefully not an issue for you. You do not need a hot water heater, you only need a water heater if it is hot you do not heat it. You may need to put an under the sink heater for the dishwasher to get the hot water there right away instead of waiting for the cold to run out and hot water to get there. Very nice looking house.

Leg Arms: We had the same tankless water heater installed in our house about 1 year ago. It has been working GREAT for us in that time. Your research has turned up a good item. We use it ONLY for showering, but it appears to be able to heat water as well for heating. Perhaps it was oversized for us, but the bills for it are still low.

It's coming along nicely. Not "hot water heater", just "water heater". Hot water doesn't have to be heated!!🥵 Dad is a trooper, he keeps "soldering on"! Cool video!

I only wish that when the last piece of a puzzle comes together that it is the last time you see it. From experience, I found that if its only simple things to redo, then life is so good. That many different crews working simultaneously is just crazy confusing yet a good confusing so how to say... its getting there. Hopefully the youngest legarms will never have to thread a pipe by hand.... who would of thought we could build such a machine(not cheap) that took all that putting pipes on handles to get more leverage on say a two inch cast steel pipe could make your eyes water cause of how easy its done now. Oh yeah, they mess up too but you fix it instead of bulling your way on through unless its only one fitting... that one last fitting will convince you to have at least two of everything that is easy to break on them! Robert, why not have schools teach some of the old ways of doing soldering wire or pipe? Kids are learning theories on how stuff did work "maybe" because the instructor is no smarter than the kid in school. On a side note, truly just a side note for sure.... if a person could buy double everything used in building their home, then sell that package to someone ready to build, you could adjust your price on materials to cheaper than they could buy from the stores, they save time and money and you could come very close to recouping all the money for all the materials used on your own build.

We love our reni tankless water heater. Probably in the top 3 things of our home. Efficient and you never run out of hot water no matter how many showers or how long they are.

You guys have so much talent between all you all. There are many "tankless" decisions in life. I put in a boiler and ran a tank with a coil for hot water. Looks great.

Monday fun day! Some days I wish I was a kid again, but if I was a kid I couldn't work at my local hardware store with some great staff and working hard and having fun! I bug my staff members quit a bit! Lol! Plus, I couldn't drive my fishing boat around if I was a kid, so there is pros and cons to it. Love the episodes! Looking forward to seeing the finished home! God bless! Daniel from Canada!

Scott, You must be very proud and rightfully so. I am sure it has seemed a little overwhelming at times, but as you know all is possible through the belief and trust in our Lord God. BTW I am sure those daring rides with Robert Andretti Earnhardt Welker across the fields and power sliding to a stop at the shop, help keep you awake and very alert! LOL God Bless you all

I would do a bib (blown in batt) over the foam. If you have any gaps of the batt, say where the foam is on the side of the stud you will cut its effectiveness in half.

Flush your hot water heater out every year with a descaler. If your water is hard you should install a water softener before the heater. I have had a few of them fail after 2 years before we learned to descale them. In some cases it is necessary to descale a few times a year.

Beautiful home. Those guys are doing a great job on all the aspects of the build. You're lucky to have found them. That's a lot of manifold.HAHAHAHAHAHA. That spray foam also seals any air leaks.
