  • A good 7 years ago we swapped out the old Dodge engine with a Chevy 350 but never finished the project. Figured now is a good time to get this truck usable again!

O boy you got my truck out. Us Mopar people believe that you have blasphemed by putting that off brand stuff in there. When that GM craps out Put a twelve valve in it. It might have had a 361 in it. What a lovely old beast. Thanks

That clacking noise you hear when you first start the door opening is the very dry coils of the springs moving against each other as the spring starts to unwind. Some oil on those springs will make them quieter and make them last longer.

So a word to the wise, we worked on lots of these hydraulic brake units by Lethbridge. You fix the master cylinder, but your booster down on the frame more than likely needs rebuilding… (a few hydraulic brake suppliers still do, send it to them, they rebuild and ship back to you) but the problem is the brakes get out of adjustment, so the booster piston travels too far trying to move enough fluid to the out-of-adjustment brake cylinders to apply the brakes against the drums. The bottoming out wrecks the booster. If your booster is ok, consider yourself very lucky!! Otherwise it might need some attention to get the brakes A-ok. (You guys seem like you like to do things right!)

We have an old 1955 Ford C-600 in the shed. It has the same style brake system with the booster under the floor. I recently picked up a 5.9 Cummins so I'm thinking bringing it out of retirement with a motor swap? Dodge was one of the first to use the hydraulic clutch system. Keep up the great work 👍

You can buy new master cylinder cups at most parts stores, it makes it easy when you have the original to match it up because it will have a number on it. I worked in a parts store for 10+ years and it amazed me how many shops would just buy a new/rebuilt master for $80 - $150 instead of seals and cups for $5 - $15.

Hey Nick, another great video as always. Just wanted to let you know the word you were looking for at the 15:48 mark in the video is crosshatches. Honing a cylinder creates a pattern of extremely light scoring known as crosshatches. I don't know exactly how to explain it but what I was taught is that the X pattern created along the cylinder wall is an aide to the seal for the piston moving inside of it.
