Best XC skiing system was invented years ago by a combination of games:
#1 Effort and heart rate system of cycling games plus the ¿German? game Biathlon 2006 (Biathlon 2006 even had the hold-breath mechanic but that would screw up your heart rate).
#2 Gearing system of any given racing game.
#3 Tuck/Schuss button for the downhills.
XC skiing works a lot like if you were a vehicle with gears, where every technique gives you more/less speed and more/less torque. If you combine both systems, where you have to think about when to push yourself but also know when to change techniques, you'd have a Hell of a gameplay system for the game. You could even have a "simple gameplay" mode with no shifting.
Best downhill skiing system (worked for alpine and skicross) I've seen worked like this:
#1 Start was timing-based for all 2-3-4 pushes.
#2 You had like 3-4 "modes" during the race including schuss, "relaxed" and standing up activated through buttons or through some shifting system.
#3 There was also a "spring" button to either absord or launch yourself off a jump.
Ice tube gameplay has always been trash but years ago I figured out a great system using the help of Heath Spence (Canadian guy that used to race for Australia):
#1 Start is a button mash until there's a "mounting" point (1 button for luge and skeleton, 1, 2 or 4 for bobsleigh).
#2 Steering on luge and skeleton would be done with the left stick plus 2 buttons (or the right stick) for weight balance. Steering on bobsleigh would be done with both sticks for the blades, then 2 buttons for weight balance.
Thank you, very in-depth and useful information. :[)
@@SimUKReviews - I love winter sports quite a bit and 99% of videogames about them are basically shovelware
Well you have enlightened and expanded my horizons, so I thank you :-)
Love Olympics games summer and winter, been a while since there’s been one and the recent ones have been a joke, this looks promising
Agreed 👍
I love this winter games 2023 if the game score 6 to 7/10, i will this game in my rental playstation
Got this yesterday, played it for a couple of hours, then it slowly dawned on me..I played this game on the 360.. Its just a HD remake of an old game lol. Anyway they've got my £25 now... Sneaky buggers. Still its better than the awful kiddy nonesense of tokyo 2020.
Are you serious? I had no idea...I though this was a new game fresh out of the stocks??
It is better than that Tokyo Rubbish.
Here is some support 😎
Thanks 😊
I loved Winter Games 2007 when i was a kid... How does this manage to look SO MUCH WORSE?!
Definitely could do with some Aerial Mike But its a steal for the price at the moment for 16 quid
Aerial? You mean camera angles?
@@SimUKReviews no Aerial skiing like doing somersaults off of jumps and some more snowboarding would be good too half pipe
@@RobertDodge oh right, yes agreed 👍
nice vid.
Thanks.
if you want some winter sports, but also you want to actually enjoy playing try Riders Republic
I had winter games on the commodore 16 many, many moons ago. I’d like to think this is as playable as that!!??
I also had a C64...but don't recall that game? It is very playable & enjoyable
@@SimUKReviews it was a C16 mate. Old school😂
Hello! Watching Maybe And Hope Find Olympic Icehockey Tournament In This Game
Sorry , is this on Playstation 5 or...?
Available on all platforms...this was recorded on PC
@@SimUKReviews thank you :)
Why there's not ice hockey, curling and others winter sports ?
Curling is on game, and pretty good....but ice hockey would be poor probably in this context?
@@SimUKReviews Would me recommand to buy this game ?
If you liked London Olympics 2012 or any of the Winter Olympic titles released at that time, then you will prob. like it....If you're not sure, maybe wait till Jan sales?
It looks horrendous
Bought this on PS4 and I regret, it might be the only recent option on ps4 but still worse than torino 2006 as of mechanics and competition.
Is this for PS5 ? what a joke terrible graphics
Looks fun, but the graphics like from 2015
Yeah I'd love to see something new gen, realistic physics etc...
