Metal Knight is cold and entirely apathetic, but he emphasizes that weapons are crucial for the structure and protection of society, or something loosely similar to that when he goes to inspect Boros's ship (I forget the exact phrasing). He's pretty heartless, but he's not power hungry. He largely keeps to himself and doesn't attempt to rise over others.
Let's not forget the other Hero who has Knight in his hero alias warned Genos not to trust Metal Knight and saying that Metal Knight isn't who he says he is.
