    Natural soap is not only useful but also pleasant. New song.)) Wow!) Very usefull tip. But I have long been using this technique to hold the end of the handle of the razor. I learned looking at your video and it really works and helps to gently touch without too much pressure. So thanks a lot. Paul. And my brother tell his gratitude for the use double chin. Оо alum block, is back, very good. We are glad to see you here and on your second channel. We will not even bother you at Facebook. Thanks a lot for your reply.

    Hello Paul, excellent video and please tell Mrs. H that Mrs. O really liked the flowers today and enjoys the closeup. I have a 1973 Black Beauty...fantastic razor. Oh, and my Christmas wish list includes a Delta Echo Red Tip and the new Simpsons synthetic Duke 3 brush.

    I will start by saying thanks for the videos. I didn't think I would still be watching them but I do enjoy them for the most part and have learned a little more about DE shaving. I have been shaving for 30+ years and started DE shaving at the beginning of this year to try and help with the nicks and irritation and so far it is working out well but of course I still get a bad shave here and there from trying blades and soaps once in a while. In all this time I have shaved the way my Dad did it, from the neck to jawline and then the sideburns to the jawline and he never did more than one pass with his Schick Injector. I have never been able to shave in the opposite direction in all those years until I started DE shaving and been working at going the opposite direction in a 3rd pass but seem to over shave when I do my touch ups and it ends in irritation. The last couple shaves I have changed the way I shave and now my first pass is now sideburns all the way to the neck line. Last shave I did a 2nd pass across and then a 3rd in the opposite direction but this morning I omitted the across the grain and did the neck to sideburns pass and then some touch ups and I can say it was great. I still over did it a little but the price I pay for enjoying the shaves. I am glad I grow a mustache because I over do it and draw blood, actually shave it once to twice a year for a week or two and I have a hard time in that area.
    So thank you for the videos and who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Sorry for being long winded.

    Paul, another good shave. I believe that the Gillette Adjustables are commensurate to the Superspeeds and so forth at about "3" - except for the plastic-undertray version of the Black Beauty, which is less aggressive, and needs to be turned up to about "5" for that level off aggressiveness. I've just been shaving with the Knack, which was the U.S.A. equivalent of the Slim Twist. Great razors - surprisingly good. One small note - the Gillette Super Adjustable, AKA Black Beauty, you were using did not come out until 1969. Even the first of the Adjustables wasn't on the market until '58. It's likely a '71, rather than a '51. Best regards.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Patrick, yes it was my mistake you are right, this razor was actually a "W" date code, which was 1951 and 1976 which this razor is....so thanks again....Paul.

    Strange coincidence! I had almost the same items for dinner as you, used a 1968 Gillette Knack( I think it is probably very similar to the Twist in terms of pefrormance) for the Weekend Shave and used a Lord Blade(which had been substituted by the Vendor for Big Ben)...Sychronicity! :D Thanks for the Show. :)

    Paul - I'm not sure if you're aware of this but you really loaded up on the witch hazel with this shave. You used the Thayers Medicated Super Hazel, then applied the Lucky Tiger which contains witch hazel, and then finished off with the Nivea balm which ALSO contains witch hazel! Nivea even adds witch hazel to their shaving cream!
    Lucky Tiger leaves the face feeling great and moisturized. I usually use that alone without witch hazel or balm. Since that orange scent lasts for about 5 minutes at most, I throw on a cologne or edt before going out or just to make me feel better when I'm staying in.
    That Nivea balm has been our for a few years. There's also a sensitive COOLING version. I bought two bottles of both on sale here in a supermarket for US $2.99 each. This is the cooling version at a store near you: www.boots.com/en/NIVEA-MEN-Sensitive-Cooling-Post-Shave-Balm_1484996/ (By the way, I think Boots was purchases awhile ago by the US Walgreen's chain: www.walgreensbootsalliance.com/about/)
    Now what other viewer regularly gives you this kind of information?!
    Where would you place setting 5 on the 1976 Gillette adjustable in comparison to the Futur and Progress? How about comparing setting 9 to the Futur and Progress?

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Paul George from Western Canada just watching your video I have a couple of safety razors that have overhang on them, Parker Variant, Rockwell 6c Muhle R41 and Yaqi DOC what I do to my razor blades to prevent the overhangs I have a good set of sharp scissors that can cut threw wire and razor blades and I cut off just enough that no overhangs shows on the safety razor it does not affect the way the razor shaves now I know people will think that I’m crazy but it’s works for me no overhang to worry about no cuts or nicks around my nose or ears anyways great shave man and I’m bidding for one of those Gillette Slim Adjustables on EBay any way great shave have a good one

My beard is fairly soft and i must shave almost daily for most of my whiskers have turned prematurely white, so i look like a bum if I don't stay shaved... : / I think this one looks good for me as i don't really need too aggressive a razor. Any thoughts? Thanks for great vids and assistance..

    Hiya Paul. another great tutorial. I have become an avid watcher of your videos. they're great. I've got the chance to purchase a Black Beauty, but am considering a new Parker Variant or Merkur Progress. I don't know what to do frankly. I already own an Edwin Jagger DE89 & Parker R66. I'm looking for an adjustable to add to my range. Your help and advice would be massively appreciated. By the way, I've reintroduced DE wet shaving to my father (he's 72) and my best mate. I put together a couple of packs of products and cheap DE razors that I used when I first started. it's becoming an obsession which my good lady struggles to understand. Cheers dude

The Progress is a very nice adjustable razor, not sure if you like vintage razors....but the Gillette Slim Adjustable is one of my favourites....great your Dad back into wet shaving...fantastic, hope you both have some good shaves to come....all the best...Paul.

    A very random question Is your house haunted keep on seeing so white orb floating about on your film at about 7:30 and again at 8:40. Do you know where the razor came from?

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, not to my knowledge, as it's a fairly new property....if it is haunted, I would like to think it's my late Father or Uncle...the razor came from the USA.....many thanks.

    Ringelblumen scent = Marigold flower and empfindliche haut = sensitive skin. Just thought I would translate for you!

      Thank you Garry, very helpful, so where does the Calendula come in, as it states that too when buying it....all the best....Paul.

    • @GeraintHewett
      @GeraintHewett 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      PaulHFilms. Calendula is the scientific name for Marigold according to Google. I used to live near Austria in my younger days, hence my knowledge of German.

    I am looking for a razor that can remove say 3 or 4 day growth quickly and without much irritation. Some say the perfect razor for this job is merkur sledgehammer 39c. Would you agree? with which setting on this razor you would compare the sledgehammer? Thanks!

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you shave with a light touch, a Muhle R41 or a Merur Futur would take down 4 days growth like it was 1 days growth....but the 39c is more aggressive than this razor....this razor would shave 4 days growth but would take longer of course....all the best....Paul.

    • @Grotto666
      @Grotto666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the r41 but even with a derby blade in it, it feels quite unpleasant.

  • @portydert8362
    @portydert8362 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's no movement of the blade in my Black Beauty once I lock it down with the final quarter turn...

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is why I shown this really, I expect some razors may be different....it was locked down correctly too....good razor all the same.....blade doesn't move during the shave , only when prompted by the hand.....all the best...Paul.

    paul, the birthmark on your left temple has gotten larger. if you look at your first video and compare it you will see it's bigger....just thought I would point that out:)

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I have been to a Doctor once and asked about it, but he said nothing to worry about as long as it doesn't itch, change colour etc....they can remove it quite easy he said.....but not worried as long as it's OK....thanks....Paul.

    The black beauty was first produced in 1968. What is the date code? It's located under the head of the razor. 1 letter 1 number.

    • @edwardmiles6513
      @edwardmiles6513 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ditto that. Gillette's date codes repeated every 25 years (skipping "Q"), and Gillette didn't begin using black handles until the 1960's. 1951's letter code was "W," which repeated in 1976, then again in 2001, long after Gillette abandoned TTO razors. This video's razor is undoubtedly from 1976.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, 1976 "W" date code.....my mistake......thanks....Paul.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg this is actually a 1976 Razor, my mistake, the date code "W" was 1951 and 1976....I stated the wrong one....all the best....Paul.
