    The babolat product (you said it right the second time - *babolot*) is actually a tennis brand and what you are using is called a "dampener," used to dampen the vibrations for the strings on tennis racquets, as the vibrations can cause serious elbow injury. Crazy to see two things I love come together!

  • @ph4sespace
    @ph4sespace ปีที่แล้ว +14

    love this, and I don't think that gatekeeping knowledge benefits producers as much as they think it does. Making great art takes a combination of knowledge/skill AND a great artistic vision for how to use it. The latter is the hardest part and not something you can really teach, so giving out plugin names etc isn't going to suddenly spawn a million top tier producers

  • @Jackson-kz7my
    @Jackson-kz7my ปีที่แล้ว +86

    This video is sensational. It's great how you go much further than most YT'rs, who'd likely seek the shallow part of the sound by only talking about plugins.
    You actually analyze the PLAYING that goes into it as well, the hardware tricks that aren't just in a DAW.
    Makes all of this very transferable to other styles, other playing.
    The audio, video edits & deconstruction are just fantastic.

    Awesome video - nailed it! The research and attention to detail is phenomenal. You mentioned the importane of how close Phoebe is to the mic; I've found having the mic upside down, with the stand further away (might need a counterweight), really helps with this (see Phoebe's setup (5:03). Helps the singer feel much more comfortable getting up close!

    • @AudioHaze

    So I can appreciate all the fun and magic one can have with all the modern amenities of plug-ins, workstations, and you know, TH-cam tutorials that everybody can watch to make anything and everything yourself, I think it’s sad that the most popular music out there requires this level of engineering prowess and detective work to try to get it out why something is great. I guess I have the unpopular opinion that people who are skilled in an instrument and writing lyrics just simply performing is enough.

    I would have said RC-20 as the mystery plugin but the other choices were solid guesses too

    that Vibrakill was an incredible tip! ive been really struggling to get a nice muffled acoustic guitar sound for years and always just skipped on using guitar for that very reason.. will deffo try this!

    another great tape plug-in to help get that muffled tone is Sketch Cassette. I love the way it sounds and use it on everything. That combined with digitalis (same company) will do basically the same thing as lossy + cassette, and might even do it better in some instances

    Let’s get that part two. I love this stuff. As a fellow engineer, it’s fun to go down these audio journeys with you. I always say what I’m hearing and I often end up saying what you say. Sometimes I don’t, and it makes me think. It’s a great chance to refresh and reinforce my memory.

    Loved seeing the Babolat. As soon as you mentioned it I was thinking "either that's a tennis string dampener or they've gotten in to the guitar biz. Also laughed when the Lossy came up, because that was the first thing that popped into my head (only because Chase Bliss just put it out in pedal form)

    AMAZING! Also, I hear tape dropouts, so something like the XLN audio RC20. AND the dropouts repeat in the same places possibly, so I think it's printed with the dropouts then chopped up so they happen in the same places otherwise the drops are random, more musical that way. Peace and Love from Southampton England.

    The first time I heard Ethan Gruska's "En Garde" I couldn't believe something so clean and acoustic could sound so rich and dreamy. I've wanted to figure out his magic for a long time, this helps, thank you!
