this interview is so phenomenal. the interviewer’s questions really provoke a kind of vulnerability, but it still just feels like a casual conversation. phoebe seems so comfortable and engaged, and the interviewer did such a good job of validating her experiences, feelings, and thoughts. definitely my favorite phoebe interview
@@emmaleahjones1495 He is incredibly well prepared but still makes it feel like his questions are off the cuff --a fluid part of the conversation. His insight on the non-repeating choruses in Kyoto blew my mind.
so sick of seeing other intervewers ask artists the most basic questions ever like "when did you start recording" "who inspired you" etc. and you're totally right, this was a breath of fresh air
he's the up and coming zane lowe. haha. I love when interviewers are like this and give great questions and are interactive with the artists rather than spurting random basic questions from a card with no correlation to the previous ones.
I don’t sense depression in Phoebe’s music. There’s plenty of music made by depressives out there, but her manner does not strike me that way. No one can judge either way obviously, but depression is not really a mood or feeling. It’s a condition that does not “go away” like a feeling, and is dealt with in terms of management. It causes fatalism and not being able to get out of bed, or sleep or eat right. It’s individually specific, but the word “depressing” gets thrown around too often. Depression is at times feeling nothing.
It’s always weird hearing her sing that about Elliot Smith when, especially because she does so many interviews and is open and vulnerable about her life, I TOTALLY feel that way about her.
I love how everyone is saying what a great interviewer the guy is, first because he is and second because complementing is powerful, it open so many doors. plus I’m so happy for Phoebe ❤️
I love that I'm not the only one that thinks this. Dometi did a really good job interviewing Phoebe, and guiding the conversation through some very interesting topics and ideas. One of my favorite Phoebe interviews for sure!
All of those black and white shots of her in the studio are so classic looking. Those will be the reference photos of her for when she’s written about in music history books for sure. Also wow, what an incredible interview
One of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. Amazing questions and answers. So much insight on two of my favorite records. This is beyond quality content!
a truly superb interview, where the interviewer actually knows about phoebe and her music and asks a lot of good questions, doesn't feel awkward at all.
She's such an amazing songwriter. Her lyrics always hook you in the first two lines. She can convey so much in so few words. Also huge shout out to the interviewer! Those questions were great prompts.
"people like you because they think they're gonna make money off you........so like stop pandering to the room..." that is gold right there. what a rad person, so great to figure that out early in a career.
I literally shed a tear when she talked about talking again with her dad😭😭😭😭 Phoebe❤❤ I'm happy I got to know you even if it's from millions of miles away. I'm still a huge fan. That's all that matters.
For me, the best part is 15:06 “i can only imagine”. Phoebe tells about her feeling being part of history that all nominees of best rock performances are women or women-led bands, and that’s what the interviewer says. I admire Phoebe and her accomplishments and the accomplishments of women that were not “allowed” in the past, and now they are making it, but I wouldn’t dare to say that I understand it. While I do relate to them, as someone who wants to achieve something that is not granted to me, but my experiences can’t be the same to theirs, and I can only imagine.
it took me half a year to appreciate punisher but now im in love with her music and her. boygenius ep is fantastic and i can't wait to dive into her first record
The world doesn't deserve this woman. She's so honest here and in all her music. Super down to earth too. It was a good day when my weekly randomly generated playlist on spotify had Motion Sickness on it.
Hey MTV, please give Dometi a raise because dude is great at his job. And Phoebe looks so healthy and confident in this interview! I love seeing her like this.
this is SUCH a great interview. props for these amazing questions, that really did provoke such amazing conversation and vulnerability! this is the kind of stuff that i totally wanted to know! thank you!
I def take my hat off to this interviewer! he asks interesting questions about sensitive subjects in such a subtle way! we can see how comfortable phoebe was when answering them
wowowowoww this interview is everythinggg✨ so many questions answered that i’ve been wondering about for a while now and the visuals were added in soooo well 10/10!!!
Give that interviewer a raise he’s phenomenal
LITERALLY
THIS INTERVIEW LOWKEY REMINDS ME OF THE MTV BACK IN THE 90S WHEN THERE WAS NO SOCIAL MEDIA AND MUSIC TELEVISION WAS THE MAIN THING DURING MTV.
It almost looks like the two are filmed independently.
Was literally about to comment this. Not surprised in the slightest everyone agrees. He's sick!!
Lies again? Zoo Gay

yeah!
I came here to say this-- Dometi Pongo is an excellent interviewer!!! Want to see more of him
I definitely hear the Elliott Smith influence in her music...listen to his work if you like her stuff! She gets it!!! She's lovely!
@@emmaleahjones1495 He is incredibly well prepared but still makes it feel like his questions are off the cuff --a fluid part of the conversation. His insight on the non-repeating choruses in Kyoto blew my mind.
People have favorite interviews now?
the host asked really great questions. brought out a lot of insights from the artist that i haven't really seen elsewhere
so sick of seeing other intervewers ask artists the most basic questions ever like "when did you start recording" "who inspired you" etc. and you're totally right, this was a breath of fresh air

Thank you so much. ❤️
@@DometiTV Great job, man.

Punisher was my soundtrack of the summer of 2020.
yep same
U good
Facts

I feel like he asked questions we all have as fans but that had never been addressed before.
There’s no higher compliment. Thank you, family. ❤️

The interviewer killed it. Phoebe is charming and insightful as always!
massive props to the interviewer Dometi Pongo, this is so good!
pongo
imagine living next to phoebe bridgers and hearing her write songs and telling her to "shut up" 👀
the scenario is literally laughable
You'd get annoyed too after a while, but yeah, telling her to shut up is a bit extreme.
the most insane situation
Need peace and quiet when Jeopardy reruns are on.
I definitely would have.
Was listening to phoebe bridgers in the car with my mom last week and she goes, “wow this is depressing “
I don’t sense depression in Phoebe’s music. There’s plenty of music made by depressives out there, but her manner does not strike me that way. My sister always saying it’s sad music when I play her music. 😩 They don’t get how beautiful it is though.
i played i know the end for my mom in the car and she said "that was a very unsettling song" lol
@@caramelldansen. LOL my mom said "ugh this sounds like the end of the world" and I said "wait till I tell you what the song is called!"
Lmaooooooo
The interviewer was fantastic. Phoebe looked beautiful and what she said at the end was so true
Phoebe looks like a literal angel
Or a black star
Or like a little love bug saying "hi!" 🤣🤣🤣😚🐞
“What if I told you I feel like I know you but we never met”
It’s always weird hearing her sing that about Elliot Smith when, especially because she does so many interviews and is open and vulnerable about her life, I TOTALLY feel that way about her.
I love how everyone is saying what a great interviewer the guy is, first because he is and second because complementing is powerful, it open so many doors. plus I’m so happy for Phoebe ❤️
It really does mean alot. 🥺❤️
When she giggled a bit after describing her music as “like silly death,” my heart totally melted.
This interviewer is terrific
I love that I'm not the only one that thinks this. Dometi did a really good job interviewing Phoebe, and guiding the conversation through some very interesting topics and ideas. One of my favorite Phoebe interviews for sure!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
All of those black and white shots of her in the studio are so classic looking. Those will be the reference photos of her for when she’s written about in music history books for sure. Also wow, what an incredible interview
Her talking voice is so much lower than her singing one.
Yeah, she sings in her head voice a lot
There’s quite a number of female singers like that! Like Mariah Carey for example
This interviewer is incredible. Please let us see more of Dometi Pongo!
Phoebe is so awesome, love her music. Also the interviewer is great.
❤️
One of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. Amazing questions and answers. So much insight on two of my favorite records. This is beyond quality content!
Agreed. Phoebe has some of my favorite music ever and this was such a good interview and insight. Amazingly done Dometi
Where's Aaron Harrison?
Phoebe laughing at her trauma is me every therapy appointment and the interviewer is my therapist just supportively sitting there, smiling in fear 😂
nooooot smiling in fear 😂
This is a great interview.
So glad you enjoyed!
@@DometiTV good stuff dude
@@DometiTV Great work Dometi! You can really tell Phoebe is engaged and comfortable.
@@DometiTV Great job!
This guy is actually a great interviewer. He asks great, SHORT questions.
So few people can do that.
a truly superb interview, where the interviewer actually knows about phoebe and her music and asks a lot of good questions, doesn't feel awkward at all.
mtv has never had a better interviewer imo
She's such an amazing songwriter. Her lyrics always hook you in the first two lines. She can convey so much in so few words. Also huge shout out to the interviewer! Those questions were great prompts.
great interview! the questions are interesting and phoebe seems comfortable with the interviewer
"people like you because they think they're gonna make money off you........so like stop pandering to the room..."

The lighting setup here is phenomenal *chef's kiss*, she is glowing
this video, this interview is out of this world
Thanks! I was the DP for Phoebe's side of the interview. Lit by myself and my (excellent) gaffer :)

The world doesn't deserve this woman. She's so honest here and in all her music. Super down to earth too. It was a good day when my weekly randomly generated playlist on spotify had Motion Sickness on it.
Phoebe is always amazing, but the interviewer also deserves so much credit for how well conducted this was. His questions were so pointed and upbeat.
For real tho, don’t think I’ve ever seen her look this gorgeous
the end on Seth meyers few months ago seriously took my breath away
She is so incredibly beautiful.
Justin Thomas Fully agree with that. In fact she's so beautiful that it doesn't distract and you listen to what she's saying. If you know what I mean.
this was such a great interview and anything Phoebe touches is already gold but the interviewer really made it all feel so genuine and engaging
She’s honest, heartfelt, and just so very down to earth. Lovely to follow, and will be continue to.
I fell in love with her singing voice but her personality is super attractive too!
