      Yes, I just tried it - it works perfectly. Thanks!

      It works until it doesn't. Just returned mine. It was working fine for few hours...until battery power went below 65%. After that camera started showing battery depleted. And that is regardless of the fact that battery in bay 2 was fully charged. I had to connect USB for few minutes and it would go back to showing real battery level. Only to go down in few shots again. I opened a case with Meike and they said that my copy is "defective" (after about a week wait) offered a "free" replacement but I had to pay for grip's round trip to China and back, which of course totally defeated the purpose. So I just return it to the seller. The fit and finish and overall feel is pretty good....if only it would do what it design to do.

      Hi,Gee,
      I thought the grip you bought is an old version which we didnt state it is compatible with a6000,so it might come with some battery drainage problem but for new version,it works perfectly.
      Bruce

    • @geeeee8268
      @geeeee8268 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a drainage problem. The problem is that my camera says "battery depleted" and turns off while both batteries are at over 60%. Is there a way to determine version? Or you talking about 6300 versus 6500 versions?

    I bought this and so far it works ok. I wish that Meike manufactured it without needing the cable for vertical shots. You have to be careful when taking vertical/portrait shots that the cable doesn't loosen or slip out. Your videos are great and i watch them all the time. On another note, Sony needs to make better batteries that don't drain so fast!

    I got the grip based on your recomendation for my a6000. I have 2, one converted for IR. I'm trying to figure out what more I can do to extend shooting time for long timelapse. I need to test how long I get with the grip. Also I have been using and no problems so far but I do have the one they made for the a6000.

    I have and use this grip on my A6300 and it works well for how it's designed. My only 'pet peeve' is the cable that attaches to the side port. They get in the way and have fallen off during transport or putting the camera back in the bag. I have not found any other manufacturer who can make a grip for the A6300 that does NOT have the cable....unless one of your viewers has found one. Please let me know.

    • @frankyvee1
      @frankyvee1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark I don't believe one exist since it would need the additional electrical connections coming from the dummy batteries and the those contacts are strictly just power no other signaling is coming from there hence why the usb cable is needed for controlling the shutter just like a shutter release.

    Going to grab one of these for my a6000! I do a lot of portraits at events and gigs and I've always felt the a6--- systems are sooo small it is a little uncomfortable to hold portrait. Plus the extra battery life would be amazing because I hate changing out my batteries halfway through a gig. Luckily I live in China so will be able to get this pretty cheap and easy to return/troubleshoot if I encounter any issues that others have mentioned! Great video as always!

  • @richardpcrowe

    I don't like the external cord from the grip to the camera. Leaving the door open would defeat the weather sealing and just seem unhandy. However, if I designed this battery grip I would somehow combine it with an Arca Compatible L Bracket.

    Hi! I have one for sony a6600. It behaves strangely. It empties one battery to 0%, but camera keeps recording and after 20 minutes of recording camera realizes it has second battery at its disposal and starts to show say 90% of the (second) battery. Therefore I never know how much juice I have really left. Does your copies behaves the same way?

      I have it it's a pretty good lens, takes great pictures and is fairly sharp wide open however I recommend stopping it down to f2.5. The quality is great, it's all metal but it has a weird lens hood that screws on and the lens cap attaches to that. The focus ring is not very smooth however, it can be tight and loose at certain points. keep in mind the 1.5x crop factor making this lens hard to use indoor on an apsc camera. Overall it's great for portraits if you have the space to step back and it's very affordable. I recommend it if you can get over the focus ring

    Have you had any issues with this product? I know many people have stated there were issues, and I trust in your reviews. If there were, were they major? Please respond :)

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, there are issues. I would say it has 85% reliability, but that isnt enough for me to warrant keeping it. It might work for some, but for me it wasnt a reliable, permanent solution, so I never use it.

      well...thats a shame actually, al the grips i have used before on my canon cameras never needed something else to make one of the two principal functions to work.

      Sony never engineered the Sony A6xxx cameras for a battery grip like other cameras with SD cards attachment on the sides. All the grips you find for the Sony A6xxx will come from third party manufactures.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. I want to ask you: when I'm not using my a6500 do I have to turn off the grip? Does it leave it on consume the battery? I can figure it out if it does. Last time I turned off too quick (while it was still saving into the microSD the video that I just record) and I lost everything. Thanks for the video man!

    do you need to remove the battery grip to get to the SD card ?

    • @phgooder
      @phgooder 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. When the grip is attached it covers the normal battery slot in the camera (a dummy battery is included that allows power connection from the grip to the camera) where the SD card is located.

    Based on your video I was going to purchase one of these, however after some digging I have found numerous complaints and even a TH-cam video regarding the batteries draining within 1-2 day, with the camera off. Equally as troubling is the fact that Meike are removing comments on these issues from their videos. Very troublesome and extremely disingenuous behavior on their part. Are you experiencing the same? Also, is there another company which I can trust which makes a similar product? I had their product on my D800E/D810 but at this time am hesitant to give them any business. Thanks for the Sony 'A' support.

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      According to Meike the new grip shouldnt have the issues of the older model, but I would suggest testing it out to make sure you get a good one no matter what. There are not that many grips available for the A6000, and the 2-3 other brands have HORRIBLE reviews on Amazon, so I hesitate to recommend anything else.

      Thank you for the reply. At this time I will hold off. Even if the product now works as advertised I cannot provide support to a company whom does not believe in free speech. Thanks again for all of your videos on the Sony.
