    Great video! I used Brian Smith's guide and was able to update my A74 to version 1.01 in 12 minutes. Thanks, Mark!!

    The A7RIIIa also has a separate firmware. Was really frustrating until I figured out there were two different firmware versions for the regular and "a" models. Sony really needs to update via SD Card. The problems that happen dealing with M1 chips are a little cumbersome.

    Hi Mark. Thanks for being a terrific Sony ambassador and giving us the latest tutorials and reviews. I recently returned from a Colorado workshop and for the first time since I have owned Sony mirrorless cameras (A1 now) I felt like I was shooting an old tech. camera. We were doing a lot of focus stacked images of flowers/stream and mountain scenes and the Canon and Nikon users all had in-camera focus stacking. This was a huge benefit for them and they got shots that I did not because of the speed and quality of stacking technique. Can you help wake Sony up about this important feature for macro and landscape shooters! Thanks

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      I flew to Tokyo with a shopping list of firmware features (including focus stacking) and talked to the engineers for three hours. They were taking notes and I left them with my slide deck so I know they know what I think the Alpha owners would like to see and will benefit from. On a side note I have seen landscape photographers stacking focus when setting the hyperfocal distance on their wide angle lens would have done the job with a lot less hassle. Experienced and meticulous macro photographers will move the camera on their macro rail rail and not the focus of the lens, so clever firmware would find this difficult to manage.

    Hi Mark, my Sony A7ii is malfunctioning (rear scroll wheel doesn't work the way it used to) and won't let me access the Setup menu to reset or update the firmware. What are my options for fixing this issue?

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try initialising the camera, switching it off and then removing the battery and start from scratch- if this does not resolve the problem book the camera in with Sony for a service.

    Hey Mark, is there anyway to upgrade or update using iPad, M1 or not? Also the A1 is falling far behind the new A7’s that have recently hit the market, will we see an major update soon for the A1 so it remains the Flagship that it is and should be???

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have successfully updated my A1 using my M1 Apple Mac computer. The A7M4 camera may have a few new video features but the A1 is still in a class of its own for shooting action/sports. The only cameras that come close to the A1 when shooting rapidly moving subjects are the 24 Megapixel A9 and A9ll cameras.

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      I should also add that the A1 shoots 4K 120p full frame while the A7M4 shoots 60p in crop mode.

    I love Sony and have an a1, several GM lenses, and also the 200-600 G as well as the 90mm macro. However, the firmware updates are just painful; I have a Mac Silicon laptop. Please pass on to Sony that it would be highly appreciated if they would put their heads together with Apple to make it less cumbersome. Besides, I really do not understand why it shall not be possible to make the software to update directly from version 1.32 to 2.01. Thanks for your great work Mark

      After the version 2.01 firmware update for your A1 you will be able to update the firmware via a file copied to a memory card or via the Creators App on your smartphone

    For everyone waiting on a firmware update be very careful. My fx3 is about 3 years old and out of warranty I updated from firmware 4.0 to 5.0 through the creators app it literally bricked my camera and it was not operable I got in touch with Sony Pro support and send it off to Precision Camera and in turn was quoted $1,100 and with Pro support I get 20% off and then they told me that because the cameras out of warranty they can give me an extra 10% off but I still have to pay for my camera being brick from a firmware update because it is out of warranty apparently the Control Board needs replaced also part of that quote is to replace the sensor filter that is not related

      Updating firmware is easy. Ive done it several times, But people need to know all the information. Everyone is pushing for updates from sony. And I hope Sony does an awesome job with the updates. But if something goes sideways. This is what you get. If their update breaks your camera you are responsible. Unless you are in warranty or have an extended warranty. To be fair I think they are fixing it at cost. But when its all said and done i'm out $850.I'm more pissed that I was told they dont know what happened. I'm ok to pay but I want them to not let this happen again to me or anyone else. Makes me not want to update my A1 in September.

      This observation is a bit of a sidestep but I have had two apple computers (one desktop and one laptop) experience 'melt downs' when updating the Operating System. Both computers could not be repaired for less than they were worth - so both ended up going the scrap heap.

      I have several custom built Gaming PCs and several gaming laptops from Alienware and other companies. I've never had an update break the system and the worst thing i had to do was reinstall windows. Also why I dont own a Mac. If i knew sony would have pulled that i would have bought the control board and fixed it myself. But I'd like to support the path Sony is heading with the firmware updates. Every android phone has a boot loader and a backup in case an update fails. It can easily be set back to a factory condition. I sent the camera in hoping they could look further into it and hopefully not let this happen again. And I want people to be aware of the problems. I would like Sony to look into a way to recover from a corrupted update. Windows has a lot of issues i agree. but its never bricked my pc to where it required a new motherboard. So if Sony is going to push for firmware updates at least release a tool to their technitians that will allow them to flash new firmware to an existing board dont just throw it away. Before they had the creators cloud and i had to update from pc, I had a few firmware updates fail and as long as the camera was still detected by the pc it would eventually work. All i know is that when i want an update i will send it directly to sony and let them do it. I'd prefer to pay for an update or pay them to do it. Something that doesnt put the cost of a software bug from sony in the hands of the customer. And if it craps out at that point its there problem not mine.@@AlphaCreativeSkills

    I installed the update on the Sony A1 and immediately noticed a speed improvement and a loss of lag (and which there was minimal) when moving around and selecting items in the Menu. I think Sony is holding off on focus breathing compensation & animal eye AF in video until they feel threatened by Canon. Right now Nikon is getting slammed in court and will lose, so Sony has no reason to shoot their wad yet.

    I WISH A THIRD PARTY WOULD WRITE A PATCH FOR THE A7'S TO INCREASE THE FRAMES PER SECOND TO 50-60? THERE'S GOT TO BE A WAY TO CRACK SONY'S CODE.

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On older model Sony's the frames per second are only limited because the processors in these old cameras wouldn't be able to handle the increased data traffic of a higher frame rate. A camera like the A7SIII has the option of recording 100-120 fps 4K because it is equipped with two very fast processors.
