    • @Tacoplug.

      Hot shoeing also creates an antiseptic environment by burning away any impurities on the outside of the hoof before you nail the shoe on. You are not trapping any of the bacteria and fungus that is naturally found around horse into the hoof

    How does one go about becoming a farrier? Is there a school to attend, internship, something? This is fascinating to me and I would love to learn more about it

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, there is a farriery school. It depends what country you are in but here it’s compulsory if you want to shoe horses. It’s a four year course and you have to have a master that you train under.
      In other countries it’s not compulsory but highly advised if you want to do it for a living, it’s so easy to get it wrong if you don’t know what you are doing!

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, lots of things have changed, lots of Farriers are now making and selling their own tools, none are particularly better than others you just pay extortionate prices for their name! Obviously technology has pushed the boundaries and some innovative people have come up with some great new ways to look at the whole shoeing process, thinking more about 5he whole horse rather than just the leg and foot. The forges have been around a while, but when I was a boy some Farriers has a coal forge in their vans!
