Electronic Arts has a long, storied history of trying to wring more money out of gamers_ after_ they’ve purchased a game - now, it appears, the company’s hard at work on its next generation of in-game ads.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson admitted as much on the company’s Q4 earnings call: when an analyst asked about “the market opportunity for more dynamic ad insertion across more traditional AAA games,” he said the company’s already working on it.
“We have teams internally in the company right now looking at how do we do very thoughtful implementations inside of our game experiences,” said Wilson.
I don’t want to take Wilson out of context. If you read the full question and answer (page 12), you’ll see that in-game ads_ aren’t_ the thing he’s most excited about. He says it’s “still early on that front,” repeatedly says EA needs to be “very thoughtful,” and suggests the bigger ad opportunity is “beyond the bounds” of games - outside of a game itself.
“As we start to build community and harness the power of community beyond the bounds of our games, how do we think about advertising as a growth driver in those types of experiences?” he asked.

Oh, wow, I had forgotten about the 'demo disc' days back with PS1. That was smart. I can't remember what game it came with, but the demo disc for Parasite Eve got me to buy the original the day it dropped.
@@roninworks3497 Yeah, sometimes there were demo discs, or sometimes the demos were accessible through a menu option on the main game, and other times you could enter a cheat code or do something else to unlock a demo. Crash Bandicoot Warped and Spyrp had that last feature for each other.
I will boycott every game studio that forces ads in the games.
I second this motion unless it’s like need for speed or Tony hawk, throw up a billboard in GTA or something that fits to that effect… if not and it’s like EA (insert game here) they will never see a dollar from me

As long it is not a pop up ad and build in like with Dirt and Monster for example, i´m fine... i even like it in some cases, as long it fits in the game like in reality. But if it is a fantasy world and you get ads or pop ups... of course not
We already pay for a game and if you wanna play it online we need to give them more money. At least we should have the right to choose if we want to see ads or not. If I'm paying for something you should have the right to choose.

Ok I just upgraded 3 days ago from my ps4 pro to my new ps5 disk drive slim.This is my first ps5 from the ps4 generation. I am keeping my ps4 pro just in case but I AM LOVING MY PS5!!!!!!!!! I see why now alot of people love the ps5. Load times, graphics, And my ps4 has a wierd thing that if your playing a game or online it sticks to the point you have to check the internet speed to unlock it to use the internet? Weird right? No problems so far on my ps5 slim. Played Grand T 7 last night for 5 hours and no fan noise or anything. My ps4 pro sounds like a jet taking off with the fan noise after 30 minutes(very loud)

I think the playstation community as a whole are generally pissed off. But mostly, it's ps5 users due to the many issues with a ps5 console in the past and present. Most ps4 users are waiting for the ps5 Pro despite the ps5 history.

I really had no problem with the slow release of PS5 only games as there were still PS4 games I wanted to play. I knew the added PS5 power would be a blessing for the old games. A lot of PS4 games still take longer to load than I expected compared to PS5 games.

Wait, won't ads in games technically mean that even single player games have to be online only games? How else are they gonna advertise without an internet connection? Ads are annoying and so are single player games that require always online. We truly don't own anything anymore. Sigh....also, I'm still on my ps4 pro. There are barely any ps5 games. Remasters/remakes don't count. There are enough games on ps4 to last a lifetime. I heard there are rumors of a ps vita successor that has ps4 power coming but what's the point when the steam deck exists?

I bought a PS5 early, paid 900$ for it and the reason that I'm ''furious'' is that there just aren't a lot of games coming out for it or they outright suck. Most games I played on it until now, were games made for the PS4 initially. That said, the loading speed are just better, so overall it was sort of worth it? Agree with your review of Ghost of Tsushima. I first played it on the PS4, then I re-bought the game for the PS5. A great game. Here's hoping for a sequel for Christmas 2025.

Faster loading times. Let's not forget you can boot up games like gta 5 in less than a minute on the ps5 and it feels like ages on the ps4. The games are enhanced on ps5. I have never regretting buying mine and I certainly wouldn't go back to ps4 since having one.

The graphics are way better than ps4 1080p for basic ps4, and the ps4 pro is better at 1440p 1080p is good for handle they need stop games so have come over they have been too nice you don't get the best control so far with the dual sense you can feel the power in your hand

I still spend a ton of time on my PS4 Pro, and haven't felt the need to upgrade yet, although a lot of people are saying the performance gains are game changing (pun intended). However, I also have a RTX3090 PC, and the Sony games run really well on it at max settings.

The old version of Ads was still great... a hard pause to show an ad will make things extremely frustrating. EA following Ubisoft in becoming irritating.
500 is more than fair considering the generally crappy quality of movies and shows coming out lately. I'd rather pay a bit more for something that is actually worth it. Paying for netflix when so much of the time I cant even find something worth my time, thats just not worth it.

Well putting all of your games on PC, not making games for PS5 that people want to play, focusing on GaaS, raising the price of PS+ -again-, raising the games to $70 of course the PS5 is not doing as good as it should be. I will be moving to PC after I am done with PS5 and will not be buying a PS6.
Platform holders can't afford to lose money on hardware and make it up with the games. Games are simply too expensive to develop.

I think ppl are kind of catching on with respect to sale numbers of consoles like PlayStation is that there are always going to be new hardware upgrades. You get a PS4, you get the Slim PS4, and then PS4 Pro. It’s the same with every next gen consoles like the PS5. Right now I still own the PS4 Pro and anxiously waiting for the PS5 Pro. I am not going to waste my money every time something new comes out!; however, I am not going to turn away completely either as I have said that the next gen PS5 Pro will come out and I think you will see the numbers climb again because GTA 6 will bring better sales and you will see a better turnout.
And here I am moving to pc and Xbox x just so I can play all my old games I love. And yet PlayStation still doesn’t support the old ps1/2/3 disk. 😂

What is the real cost? Mmm, well Sony already has the infrastructure so nothing there, components meh an over exaggerated cost surely and then hardware/software development. All these things already have avenues trodden and in place. Maybe if they put more effort into hardware and software development so the jump to pc doesn’t look so enticing instead of getting customers to move small steps with dribbles of technology, especially when this formula has become transparent. Do they like the customer begging for scraps or is this their marketing strategy?
Why would you want to upgrade from PS4 to PS5? Two words. Load times. The PS5 launches into games SO fast, and loading screens are pretty much non-existant. I have literally got buddies to upgrade their PS4's by letting them check out games on my PS5.
