It's a very creative, symbolic and clever video with a devious occultic tone to it! I think people don't appreciate all the work needed to do these things, especially back then when there were less tools... I had this album on CD when it was released...
I just find it so interesting that so much work back merely two working its way to three decades ago produced what we could now produce in mere hours with dirt cheap software and half the 3D design knowledge. Technology has really come a long way.
I guess I'm too young to understand it. Cuz...I just saw some artsy stuff that I'm trying to piece together. Now if you'll excuse me, I must listen to shock the monkey
The Year is 1991. Your studio just got a Commodore Amiga 2000, a 130 Megabyte Hard Drive and a NewTek Video Toaster. You have a 140 page manual for your copy of Lightwave 3D in your hand and you've installed 6 of the 9 floppy disks it came on. Peter Gabriel just asked you to do a music video for MTV. YOU. FUCKIN. GOT. THIS.
A cool rhythmic groove from Peter, something Genesis could never have pulled off. I respect him for the fact he didn't reform for money like most of the '70's stars have. Gabriel, Banks, Rutherford, Collins & Hackett were a classic band, as long as they never come back they will always be remembered as such. I understand they met to talk about it, I'm glad that's all they did.

Stand back! Can't you see I've lost control I'm getting indiscreet You're moving in so close 'til I'm picking up Picking up this heat, this heat [Chorus 1] You know your green from your red You know the quick from the dead So much better than the rest You think you've been blessed But I know you You know your ladder from your snake You know the throttle from the brake You know your straight line from a curve You've got a lot of nerve But I know you [Chorus 2] Everybody nosedive Hold your breath, count to five Backslap, boobytrap, Cover it up in bubblewrap Room shake, earthquake Find a way to stay awake It's going to blow, it's going to break This is more than I can take Oh yeah, I need steam Feel the steam all around me Ah you're turning up the heat When I start to dream aloud See you move your hands and feet Won't you step into this cloud of steam This steam [Chorus 1] Help me yeah Ready to steam out the log jam Stir crazy from the freezer to the boil Water's bubbling, it's b..b..b..bubbling bubbling [x4] like it's coming to a boil Give me steam, lady Give me steam around me now Aah coming alive [x2] Said give me some steam

One of the greatest talents the UK has ever produced. That voice, no-one sounds like him!
30 years ago and oddly it is still captivating and interesting and artistic! Nothing is like this today after how far have we come?
By.gio..sss..primo..Milano.. italy..ciaoo
I remember this on TV over 20 years ago.. damn
Me too. Crazy.
his videos are like a heavenly acid trip
Everytime i see that purple suit and those platform shoes i just lose it lnao!! God, we knew how to have fun back then it was the greatest of times
"Peter, we have this amazing new animation technology for your next video."
Peter: "MAKE ME A TRAIN"
"What........?"
Peter: "PUT MY FACE ON A TRAIN!"
Cooper Stone Peter the tank engine
Is it odd that he looks even better as a train then he does as a human?
Ok, Now make me a chair!
Love the effects a train!! Yes!! So steam baby ...all aboard this crazy train ha ha lovin it.
PETER GABRIEL IS ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME
This is my favorite era of computer animation. Looks cool without trying to look too real.
Mans a genius or genesis!!!!
let's just say his genius was the genesis of eclectic Music Video.
Cutting edge stuff, even today...
Owsley Stanley died, he was the man.
Mark Wright Genesis is also great
I see what you did there .
Groovy as heck. Fascinating.
It's a very creative, symbolic and clever video with a devious occultic tone to it! I think people don't appreciate all the work needed to do these things, especially back then when there were less tools... I had this album on CD when it was released...
Love that it's about a chick that thinks she's the shit.
well i mean the imagery in the video as much as the song lyrics, alchemical symbolism in it....whether that was intended or not i don't know
I just find it so interesting that so much work back merely two working its way to three decades ago produced what we could now produce in mere hours with dirt cheap software and half the 3D design knowledge. Technology has really come a long way.
jr540123 Welcome to the 90's.
YOU. FUCKIN. GOT. THIS.
I didnt know that this video was made on Amiga.
Nice! I have seen a video toaster. A friend had one and edited a lot videos on it.
@@BartdeBoisblanc Wow...that's crazy.
I didn't know they kept making the "Video Toaster" product line until 2010.
@@murrfeeling The video was originally done in 1991
@@brianh9358 Okay... read the FIRST sentence of my original post.
Peter Gabriel is amazing. His music is so good and he is so creative.
This was my favorite video as a kid. Now it is the favorite video of my son. Timeless.
If you’re still loving this in 2020, you got good taste in 80s music and with Peter Gabriel
This was 1992. Slightly later than the 80s.
This is 90’s
I’m a 14 year old girl and have loved his music for awhile. I’m happy my parents introduced me to good music
Didn't Peter Gabriel play this at one of the Oscars? Or maybe the Grammys? I just remember this big production number with flames and smoke.
70,80s and 90s music rule compared to todays music ! Stay Safe ...
Who listen this great song in 2024?

the amount of emojis on this comment is borderline offensive

Это клип - шедевр без преувеличения! Как и другие клипы Питера!
Tienes toda la razón.
Un genio musicale!
All of Peter's videos are SO creative, unique & innovative.... LOVE IT ALL!!!
Peter Gabriel is awesome
I miss the 80's :(
This one is from '92
"Steam"
Stand Back!
Stand Back!
What are those dogs doing sniffing at my feet
They're on to something, picking up
Picking up this heat, this heat
[Chorus 1:]
Give me steam
And how you feel to make it real
Real as anything you've seen
Get a life with this dreamer's dream
You know your culture from your trash
You know your plastic from your cash
When I lose sight of the track
You know the way back
But I know you
You know your stripper from your paint
You know your sinner from your saint
Whenever heaven's doors are shut
You kick them open but
I know you
[Chorus 2:]
Give me steam
And how you feel to make it real
Real as any place you've been
Get a life with the dreamer's dream
Stand back!
Stand back!
Can't you see I've lost control I'm getting indiscreet
You're moving in so close 'til I'm picking up
Picking up this heat, this heat
[Chorus 1]
You know your green from your red
You know the quick from the dead
So much better than the rest
You think you've been blessed
But I know you
You know your ladder from your snake
You know the throttle from the brake
You know your straight line from a curve
You've got a lot of nerve
But I know you
[Chorus 2]
Everybody nosedive
Hold your breath, count to five
Backslap, boobytrap,
Cover it up in bubblewrap
Room shake, earthquake
Find a way to stay awake
It's going to blow, it's going to break
This is more than I can take
Oh yeah, I need steam
Feel the steam all around me
Ah you're turning up the heat
When I start to dream aloud
See you move your hands and feet
Won't you step into this cloud of steam
This steam
[Chorus 1]
Help me yeah
Ready to steam out the log jam
Stir crazy from the freezer to the boil
Water's bubbling, it's b..b..b..bubbling
bubbling [x4]
like it's coming to a boil
Give me steam, lady
Give me steam around me now
Aah coming alive [x2]
Said give me some steam
Thank you for a song lyrics. What I need to do is to write it all down on a piece of paper. I like the "Everybody nosedive" part.
Happy 72nd birthday to Peter. 2/13/50
Is he still performing at 72?
I was lucky enough to spend a few days in Venice, Italy this week (sorry...), courtesy of a surprise trip from my lovely wife. At some point we rested our sore feet in a tiny bar amongst the maze of streets and this was playing - quite loud. Had forgotten how brilliant this man is. Then they played Led Zep, then Men at Work, then Rolling Stones...etc.. I didn' want to leave....
Brilliant video and Peter Gabriel has the most beautiful eyes!
5:11 'this game is on Steam'
The most hilarious PG video to one of his best songs ever! It's a goddamned laugh riot!!! I miss Peter Gabriel....
What do you mean? He’s still alive!
@@OtisNotibrus Oh yes
He isn't in England.
@@astridsegall6013 Reckon he's around, and if you went and stood on Kelston Stump and shouted very very loudly ....he might shout back.
@@astridsegall6013 yes, he lives in England:-)
Peter Gabriel is a musical genius.
This is so 90s, I love it!
