    Human beings gradually lose one of their basic motor functions, which is the ability to squat fully. This is due to our modern way of life and environment which no longer requires squatting to eat, to relieve oneself, for rest or work.
    Ankle stiffness is a major source of injuries to the knee, back etc. because of the body's compensation mechanisms.
