Alex ~ thank you for these great videos. I started watching and cutting my own hair in the early days of COVID. But my vision is poor ~ I can’t see well, even if the mirrors positioned. People might be surprised that instead I use the sound of the clippers cutting to know when to fade the clippers outward. It looks pretty good, but not as good as yours. Then I go over all the hair lightly with a straight razor ~ I like the texture this gives. A great barber taught me that razor trick. Keep up the good work and thank you again.
@@hiddih3835 ‘ Not really talented, but trying to do best I can w/o good vision. First I have really big clipper guard ( #10 or #14 ? ) - I do the top with that. Then starting @ #8 and working my way down to #1 - I do the sides and back of my head. Again, I use sound - as I’m moving the clippers upward ~ as soon as I hear the sound of it cutting hair then I smoothly / gradually fade the clippers away from my head. I do that all the way around. Then I install the next smallest clipper guard and repeat. When I get to #3 and lower then I’m especially careful when cutting the sideburn area in front of each ear ~ as I want them to look equal. Then I switch to a small beard clipper ( no guard ) placing it at the base of my neck I shave upward until I feel my hair touching my pinkie finger - then I stop. That’s how I shave the fuzz off of my neck. Then I just brush a straight razor over the hair to texturize it. This method does not give me the very short sides that Alex has nor does my haircut look as good, but it’s not bad. People don’t look at me funny and kids don’t point and whisper to their moms when they see me in the grocery store ! 😁
@@hiddih3835 Sorry ~ just realized, I didn’t answer your actual question about straight razor texturing. Note - my hair doesn’t have any curl or wave to it. Anyway, I just drag the blade flat along my hair IN THE DIRECTION IT LAYS. While this isn’t how I do it exactly, here’s an interesting link : th-cam.com/video/cuoIowPKs0g/w-d-xo.html.
I notice you didnt cut anything from the above section, would you do that with scissors? like pulling upwards a hair with the fingers and cutting and just go on all top to also reduce the longevity of the hair there?
