Maldives was part of Sinhale when our country was temporarily handed over to Great Britain in 1815, subjected to certain conditions by an agreement, referred to as Kandyan convention. It had been conveniently forgotten when we got 'freedom' by our supposed to be leaders and the guys who framed the 'jana rajaya' constitution of 1972 by deceiving Mrs. B. Wasn't it?. Sri Lanka is an Indian version of a glorified island.
It's best maldives stays as a separate country as it's an islamic nation even back then. Don't think it would work for Buddhists. It didn't work for Hindus in India.
