I remember getting this thinking "Well they can port GTA to PSP, so they can port NFS Most Wanted" and being shocked at how limited it was. Interestingly, NFS Carbon for PSP does successfully port most wanted's open world and cop chases to the PSP.

Good thing you mentioned the Most Wanted map design, Rockport is surprisingly memorable for a racing game, same with Bayview from Underground 2. It is nice to free roam around and listen to the soundtrack.
True. I also had feeled the same. Most of the tracks in this game are reskins of Bayview from U2 and there is two of these tracks taken from Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 also.
Fun Fact: I played this version before I played the 360 version so I thought this game was incredible...boy was I wrong.

Imho, Carbon: Own the city was the best NFS game on PSP. I think it's the only one (!) to feature an actual open world.
And the story, boy, the story on that NFS is very deep and strong, one of the best of all NFS.

Goddamn most wanted looks so fucking good on xbox 360. Even with the 360 textures the PC version has a long way to go. I hope Osdever finished the 360 mod properly.

Or EA could stop being lazy as fuck and make a remaster of MW05 just by porting X360 version to all platforms and adding some missing and NFS Carbon content that was meant to be in the game(like Nissan 350z and Skyline for instance or 6 plager races). They could do some minor improvements like animated driver in each car, proper models for characters in their cars based of actors from blacklist pictures and cinematics.
That would be enough and quite easy if they didnt loose the source code for X360 version.

@@GenerationZ313 It wouldnt be too hard, if they doke HP2010. Its just the music licensing cost and if its tok hard they could cut it. We would mod missing songs in on pc anyway. Music importing added to EA Trax that would work lile HP2010's and MW2012 user playlists on console versions. While cars overlap with their current licenses almost completely making it cheaper for few cars that are missing it(like Fiat i presume since they didnt feature fiat cars in anything after)
You forgot to mention that Ronnie drives the road version of M3 GTR with Razor's iconic livery while Razor drives the sport version of M3 GTR with a random red and blue livery.
The only rivals who have both the same car and livery are Sonny, Izzy, Big Lou and Earl
Its not Razor's livery, but Player's. But yeah cars and liveries are all over the place in that game
How about a full video on Carbon: Own the City? It was one of the first couple of PSP games I had when I bought my PSP and I adored it as a kid. I'd put it just a little bit behind Burnout Legends for two of the best PSP racing games. I recently downloaded the ISO for it and played it on my phone again and it still holds up fairly well.

This game is dog crap. The acceleration for the cpu is broken and unreal. Makes the game so unfair even if they crash or you force them to crash. They pick up 100 times faster than any car you use. Ridiculous, I can’t believe I beat this as a kid

Yeah, and on it's own its proof that we could've had pretty much 1 to 1 port of real Most Wanted with open world cops. Its such wasted potential. It would also be beneficial to people who want to play PSP games via emulation on their phones. We still have Own the City, but Most Wanted would be more enjoyable with its soundtrack and gameplay, OTC only lacks few minor mechanics like pursuit breakers. Sadly when Undercover port time came around they fucked it up insanely badly, PS2 version got gameplay better than both PC and PSP Undercover.
@@Kacpa2 Is the PS2 version of Undercover actually worth playing/emulating? I played NFS on PS2 up to Pro Street then I bought my PS3 and didn't buy another NFS game again until Rivals. Was always curious about Undercover and I'm getting an itch for old school NFS again
Also, try emulating the GC version of Most Wanted on your phone. Dolphin emulator actually works decently enough and that game runs fine if you've got a newer flagship phone or a phone with good enough specs.
@@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams It is. Its fun even if a bit buggy. I felt like i played MW05 for the first time when i went to play it on PS2 2 years ago. Its pretty much day time NFS Carbon but soundtrack plays in everything like in Most Wanted with composwd music being only in pursuits.
And unlike pc and psp undercover it has interesting looking and colourful map and scenery even if layout is based lf bits of rockport, you wont really recognize it as much because Rosewood is really heavily edited woth unique town inside it and Rockport downtown is mirored scenery makes enough of a difference. Plus PSP version does the same but everything is boring and drab yellow-gray looking like bad attempt at copying MW05 artstyle. It has fun, warm and tropical atmosphere of ps2 with some unique missions while mess ups are just silly and funny.
Handling is really fun, cops are bit bugged with how they spawn but still much better than pc and MUUUCH better than psp police.
TLDR; Yes i recommend it wholely its fun to play and to look at, succeds where all other versions failed miserably even if it is also a bit bugged but only because Exient(devs hired by ea to make it last minute) had so few time.
P.S. it also runs better on android if you play the Wii version. Easily full speed with Snapdragon 835 or better. Almost full speed on weaker snap dragons and Exynos cpus. MW05 doesnt run to well for me sadly in have Snapdragon 820

Kacey I'm not sure if you know, but that tweet from Toyota was just from a social media manager for Toyota UK and the higher ups from Japan have said that it's not how they view things. It would also not make sense as they have licensed their vehicles in Initial D and other Japanese racing games during that period.
The most probable answer IMO is some sort of exclusivity deal with Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo developer), which would be typically Japanese.
But then why is the Hilux AT 38 IN FH4?
I remember my friend jokingly saying before official reveal of HP Remastered, that it's going to be remaster of this game because of the 5:10 trailers.

I remember saving up and buying my own PSP (the first version). I only had enough money left for a used copy of Tiger Woods PGA. But I've never played it: I tried to get the disc itself out of the UMD. With a screwdriver ...
The PSP, in my eyes, really does have the best selection of games for a handheld ever. Bought a 3DS years later and felt so underwhelmed by the library. With the PSP you could get PS2 quality titles. Midnight Club 3 and The Warriors being prime examples. On the other hand you have these wonderfully odd ports like The Godfather, where all the customization and free roaming was cut, or 007 From Russia With Love where half the game was missing.
I remember getting FRWL on the PSP and was so upset that I beat it in an hour.
It's really funny that this game has only 2 points lower Metacritic score than UG Rivals and the excellent port of Midnight Club 3
I used to play this game on my PSP, tbh the AI and the cops in this game is somehow more frustrating than NFS Heat. Good review btw, I hope you'll be reviewing Gran Turismo, Need For Speed Prostreet, Need For Speed Shift, DiRT 2 and Driver 76 on the PSP.
lmao I just realised that the Downtown Expressway circuit in this game was ripped off from Outer Ring from Underground 2, the very first circuit in the game.
You should also note that GBA and DS versions of Most Wanted use nearly identical track layouts to this game.
In my 510 playthroughs, I always buy the eclipse. Once fully upgraded it handles great, good top speed almost (200 mph)
And powerful acceleration. You can use it for most of the blacklist until you have access to audi TT. Then afterwards any super car.

The big problem in Pro Street PSP is the bad control commands, bad car customization and the fun Canyon track from PC its a boring and calm race track in PSP version. I wish the Canyon from PSP was the same thing from PC.
I understand now why my dad puts Own the City Carbon for PSP instead of 510 MW.

I'll have you know fast and furious crossroads is one of the most superior narrative racing games out there. That game alone has surpassed every need for speed including your beloved most wanted.

If I wasn't mistaken, I believe the double down challenge is available after most races if you had reached max heat level before finishing the race.
and while it only gives you a little amount of bonus bounties, if you happens to race every single one of the double down challenges that the game threw at you, later down the line you would realize that you had already unlocked boss battles without completing each and every one of the races they have to offer.
I'm also certain that while the game didn't directly mention it, it also double your cash reward, so a $4500 reward became $9000 and it makes money making much, much easier.

Carbon Own the City for the PSP is such an upgrade from this. It's still flawed, but it's the best NFS game for the PSP. It even does some things better than the console version of Carbon. Hope to see a review of it on your channel!

the cop AI in this game took notes from the the driver 1 and 2 games on ps1 where they rubber banned and are ruthless

This was my first NFS game, compared to the other NFS games on PSP, the sense of speed on 5-1-0 is so much better imo

yea, was kinda disappointed playing this after i did a 100% playthrough mc3 on my phone via emulator. in fact im still in awe that i can play the gamecube version instead which actually is a a full port, instead of whatever this mess was.
I do remember about a year ago going through all the NFS PSP games, because I remember how fond I was of Own The City, which felt like a pretty genuine NFS title when you consider the hardware it was on. Gotta say, I was pretty disappointed when I came out of that, realizing that Own the city was probably the most effort put on the PSP titles outside of Rivals. All of them ran on the same general engine, for the most part had the same physics, progression was more or less the same and I think only a couple tried to tell a story and even so the most comprehensive was OTC and Undercover, only one being original (and a surprisingly good one I'd say) and the other just straight rips from the mainline console versions. Granted, if I was a kid I'd more than likely have gotten a kick out of these other titles, because I always loved grinding out car upgrades in the main games, but looking back its really simplistic. Its funny you mentioned phone emulators, because after my initial look back at these PSP games, I did download dolphin on my phone and ended up running Underground/Mostwanted/carbon without even the slightest hitch 😂. Technology for sure has come a long way, but ill always have nostalgic for the PSP, even if some ports where for better or worse.
@@genkia87 Yeah Same, Rivals was good although it eventually got extremely repetitive going through the same few circuits over and over and there is no real endgame since the game is just a checklist so I tried to complete all races which took me over 22 hours
5-1-0 was obviously pretty disappointing, but OTC was even better than main version in some aspects, it had great variety of races, decent story and the difficulty was actually fairly balanced.
ProStreet just felt extremely flat and barren with no drag or drift and little event variety, even DS version had more effort into it.
Undercover just felt meh and didn't try anything new and Shift was some weird Burnout Dominator reskin that felt more like ProStreet than the actual ProStreet PSP game

@@father042 I also played those games, UR as decent as it was it felt like a slap on the face 100%ing it with no real reward, considering how much the tracks repeat and the grand amount of time I spent completing it (Maybe noone has mentioned this but two courses for Nexus are nowhere to be seen in the events and can only be accessed through arcade mode).

growing up as a kid and only having this one game cause we were broke, id take the psp with me everywhere and listen to the playlist of this game for hours and it developed my entire taste in music up to this day- i also loved the game and forced myself to adapt to the horrible mechanics since its the only one i had to play lmaoooo i would get furious at the broken mechanics

The thing I hate about 510 is that The police is only against you and the traffic hates you, other than that, I love the game
I played this game to completion back in 2006, it was extremely frustrating.
The PSP was my first game system and this was my first game. Before that all I played were flash games, so I didn't understand what a "Save game" was, so for the first week I would constantly replay the first 30 minutes of the game. While the gameplay was worse than the console versions, they carried over the entire soundtrack and that was just as memorable as anything that I did in the game. I had my moms apple earbuds and I felt like I was THE shit listening to all that edgy music. I think my PSP is broken, but it still had the memory card in it last time I checked. I still think about getting a used one and taking my lime green cobalt with white tribal graphics for a spin once again.

I couldn't even beat this game as a kid, idk if I was just bad or the rubber banding was too ridiculous but I had experience with racing games already with Burnout 3, Revenues & GT.😆

shouldnt you get a 3ds capture card instead of a ds capture card? because if you ever want to review a 3ds game you would also need that, and the 3ds can play ds games so it's not like you'd be missing something
3DS capture boards can’t capture original DS games unfortunately, unless I’m mistaken. I know that the 3DS capture homebrew only supports 3DS games.
@@Kaceydotme You're mistaken, 3DS capture boards can capture original DS games. Just watch any SaltyDKDan's DS games videos and he showed the 3DS homescreen before booting up the game. You're confusing with the homebrew method limitation as the hacks that is used with that method is essentially unloaded when the 3DS rebooted into DS Mode.

I remember being so excited to play most wanted on my psp after playing it on my brothers PC beforehand. I was very disappointed if im gonna be honest. I don't remember much, since I played it when I was like 6, but I just didn't have as much fun as I did when I played it on the pc

What you think of Midnight Club LA Remix PSP port? I think the game tried too much and the races are 99% the same and the difficulty is not existant at times.
