I can see the Rose pikmin being the sweetest pikmin toward the captains like using it's arms to hug them even though it could poke holes in their suits but maybe their thorns are retractable so they CAN hug the captains and when they're thrown at an enemy the thorns can come back out
Retracting would be too simple. Ot like the red pikminn can retract their powerful noses. Love the idea of the rose pikmin trying to hug Louie but he's running away and the pikmin thinks he's playing. Like in 2.

love these designs, all of them are extremely charming and unique, but, I feel like some are a little too exotic to be in a pikmin game. My ideas for the pikmin are: the dark pikmin could be invisible in dark places, so enemies can’t see them! The dirt pikmin could dig underground and gold enemies in places so they can’t escape, you could still throw it but it attacks slower because of all the heavy dirt on it. The rose pikmin could stretch its armed very far to reach things other pikmin can’t and, it can’t be shaken of enemies. The orange pikmin can roll over enmies and do damage while rolling, you can’t throw it becaus of all the spikes so instead you roll it like a bowling ball!
Just thinking through the potential mechanics for these pikmin for a moment because I really love the designs. I'm writing this as I'm watching the video though! For dark pikmin, aside from night survivability, I think they'd be one of two pikmin that you could leave out at night and they would survive on their own. They'd not be able to reproduce with pellets, and be explicitly carnivorous. They'd have decent damage output, but maybe be a little bit grumpy about being around other pikmin and captains, reflected in an unwillingness to carry objects other than food. For dirt pikmin, I think that at night, they'd plant themselves into the ground and look kinda like flower pots. I think they'd have significantly less damage than other pikmin (due to being kinda crumbly!), but be excellent at digging up buried treasures. Additionally, I think they'd work neatly as a sort of "mole" pikmin: when transporting items, if they ran into an enemy, they would simply submerge themselves underground and wait until the enemy left. This way, you'd be able to sneak treasures across more treacherous areas without having to fully clear a path, though there would still be the risk of not getting them home in time. Rose pikmin, I think would be pretty situational overall. Due to their long spiky arms, I think you'd be unable to throw them, but have to rush them at enemies. It'd be cool if they had a little extra carrying capacity: 5x, rather than the purple's 10x. I think, however, that unlike other pikmin, they'd be able to have multiple targets- so long as those targets didn't surpass their capacity. For instance, a rose pikmin could carry 5 different items with a carrying requirement of 1, or branch out and attack 5 different nearby enemies at the same time (though I think their damage would be distributed, rather than multiplicative). Their extra reach would tie them nicely to yellow pikmin's higher throw, and I think they could pull themselves out of water- though still not swim, themselves. I like to think that for the orange pikmin, they'd have some interesting combat features; throwing them at enemies, they'd deal extra damage, but be stuck to the enemy until defeated; if enemies swallowed them, they'd take damage, but due to their natural acidity, as long as the enemy is defeated, they wouldn't die. This would tie them into red pikmin and yellow pikmin in some interesting ways thematically as far as combat (red pikmin with extra damage) and survivability (yellow pikmin with bomb rocks) are concerned. It's neat to see that other people had similar ideas though!
I dig these new pikmin. I remember playing the 1st and 2nd games when they came out. I am curious as to what potential new pikmin could be introduced in the 4th game aside from the ice pikmin.
@@bilsuart I think we will because each game since Pikmin 2 introduced two Pikmin. 2 gave us White and Purple and 3 gave us Winged and Rock. If I were to guess what the other one is my guess is another elemental one like Ice.
Yeah that dirt pikmin concept looks like it can be a ambush/trap mechanic type! Either burrow attack or lure an trap. Those dark style pikmin can also attack & lock down various limbs or appendages on enemies! Good job!

I don't know if this just me but, the dark pikmin looks like it's made of rubber. I also when I first saw the orange pikmin reffered to them as the "Pineapple Pikmin". Nice job on all of them!
Yknow, the dark pikmin (for me at least) feels like a type of pikmin that wouldn't necessarily hurt you. Maybe they can be normal pikmin infected by a monster or smth, similar to a zombie, and it could infect YOUR pikmin too. The only way to heal them is to throw them into a pikmin-change bulb or maybe even get pikmin to find materials to make a spray, similar to the spicy stuff in pikmin 3.
pikmin don't just have flowers, they also can have a leaf or bud, and the leaf is of course green! so that's why they don't make a green pikmin, because it would match the leaf, which is what they don't want.
Here’s what I think each pikmin could do: Dark Pikmin: Jumps up and bites enemies, briefly stunning them. Dirt Pikmin: Lured enemies towards it, then digs underground, causing the monster to trip and fall as it broods out and attacks. Rose Pikmin: Latches onto enemies and slaps them, doing quick damage. Orange Pikmin: When thrown, it gets stuck onto enemies until shaken off, slowly doing damage. When it gets eaten, it loses its spikes and gets spat out, allowing you to attack again, and they grow back from nectar. Hylian Pikmin: Is able to evade enemies by quickly dodging, with standard attack power. Jumps off of enemies when thrown.
I like the idea that the Hylian pikmin would only spawn around either the spring of courage, or places where the shards of the courage triforce are located. Sorta like the spirit of the hero leaked out of them and infected the local pikmon (pikmin Pokémon).

I had a dream where there was another type of pikmin called the piranha pikmin, it was a purple pikmin except it didnt have 10 pikmin weight, and you find the onion in a cave in the giants hearth and it looks like the pikmin that are infected by the toadstool in pikmin 1 but are actually friendly and they are very fast and do some serious damage, and you dont have to bring the onion out of the cave the onion instantly starts like onions in pikmin 3 and it would disable at the end of the day and then it would get sucked up by your main onion and it would add the onions color (its light brown colored) and they are very useful when you want to charge your pikmin at something, also i love your pikmin ideas and their designs are so good, i hope your interested in this nonexistent pikmin type explanation. *insert end of comment here*
Your pikmins gave me a vibe of a survival pikmin game, like you have the normal pikmins for fighting and exploring, and these new one more "work focused" Black pikmins can fight at night, so they can defend the base in the night, an could convert other pikmins into black ones, but dont work in the day. Dirt pikmins can destroy terrain but dont fight, so they can hide in the ground to not be atacked by predators Green pikmins cold be the builders, they help making the walls etc. With their long arms Pinapple pikmins are the farmers, so it there is a way to get a constant supply of fod The hylian pikmin could act as a new character, just as olimar and the crew, he could be a leader... Loved the designs!

It's fun knowing how chat influenced these designs. Specifically I remember chat saying that eyebrows would be good for the Green Min and someone mentioning the Silent Princess.
It’s interesting to see what someone who doesn’t know much about Pikmin comes up with for new designs. The games have always forced you to leave planet for the night so not sure where the Dark Pikmin would come in handy unless they are also better in battle in caves and such. Unless they let you stay on planet at night in this one, but I have my doubts as someone who has played since the franchise started and hasn’t seen all the promotional stuff. The rose one I can see as being more difficult for enemies to eat straight out. They’d at least get damaged from it if not struggle more to eat it, thus giving a little more time to potentially save them. I could see them giving you some range with those vine arms and maybe having a conflicting description about battle efficiency like the flying Pikmin do(being simultaneously referred to as having great combat skills but also being bad at combat). I think giving more of a variety to the flowers beyond just the color would be a good idea. I think the idea was that they’re just all variations of the same flower, hence why they only differ in color in the flower itself, but it would be interesting to see Pikmin of other flower types.
I think the green pikmin could use there thorny arms like whips say get some green pikmin an enemy has a shelid or even some spikes and you use them to rip of the sheild/spikes.

I had a similar idea for the spiky pikmin. Being brown or durian colored, it can survive being eaten by an enemy and can also damage it. They can also cling to walls and enemies to deal extra chip damage. Because it's like a burr, it can stay on enemies longer. When clinging onto a wall, it can go up them and retrieve items from them.
wonderful vid! i know i'm plenty late as i just recently discovered you, but I adore Pikmin and adore these designs, so if it's of any value, here are my thoughts! 0. Clearing something up but most facial features on Pikmin aren't simply to distinguish them, the only one with a specific facial feature that serves no function is the Purple Pikmin, Blues have a Gill for water travel, Reds actually do extra base damage because of the thorn that looks like a nose, Yellows "Ears" are for aerodynamic purposes, Whites eyes are probably for seeing in the dark as it's a cave dweller, and Pink- might be for show too idk. 1. Hylian Pikmin - Dope design! not at all practical, though I assume that's obvious so I won't go on about it too long here, Pikmin all have some unique ability when it comes to combat, exploration, and even in death for some, all things that, currently, act as a part of their natural moveset, not with the aid of weaponry. 2. Orange Pikmin - Genuinely an interesting concept aswell as a cool design, I'm not sure how it'd compare in terms of balance considering functionally it seems to just be a mix of Grey and Red but, i think the idea of it doing damage when eaten, unlike Whites that would kill if eaten, gives it something somewhat unique to themselves, perhaps it's bulky shape and numerous spikes would prove it the opposite to Greys, in that in can latch onto enemies, but it'd only be a one time throw until it's shaken off, as it'd get stuck. 3. Green Pikmin - Amazing design though it's use varies depending on introduction, but let's go down the list, in terms of Combat, perhaps a weaker option that unlike any other Pikmin, can't be shaken off? it'd have to do a very small amount of damage to balance this but, it's the direction i could see it going, we then move to Traversal, where i see this Min being very good at grabbing or activating things that are normally too dense for other Mins, small cracks, tight holes, stuff like that, all around it has potential, though i think for it to see full use, Nintendo would need to give it more unique obstacles to call it's own. 4. Brown Pikmin - Good design, Cute personality, functionally confusing, as it's just caked in dirt i can't see it being immune to Smashes like Greys, and i can't much picture it's tunneling ability doing a whole lot of anything, unless maybe they added a turnover feature? say enemies like the Bulborb had an even weaker spot on their tummy, perhaps you could use Dirt Pikmin to flip them over to reach that weak spot? but it feels a tad forced, not a bad concept at all but while i could see it doing good for Traversal, a good Pikmin should warrant use in combat aswell. 5. Black Pikmin - With Glow/Lime Pikmin being a thing in 4 now, more Nighttime exclusive Pikmin sound really fun to play with, that being said, a Pikmin with a maw feels too similar to Reds with their pointy thorn, i can't see this Min doing anything Reds can't, though if Glow Pikmin were repurposed from being all-arounders, having a Night equiv to a Red would be interesting, perhaps sprouting more ideas for an entire sub-set of Night Pikmin Variants. All around, really cool video, really cool Pikmin, keep up the great work :D
Kinda think the dirt pickmin could use the dirt as a defense. A creature could try and eat it, but spit out when it gets a mouth full of dirt. It could then get a new coat of dirt the nex day. The orange pickmin could have a bromeliad-type type flower bloom from it's spiky leaves.
If I had a nickel for every angey toddler claiming bilsu steals his art I would have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice. And if I have a nickel for every time *people don't realise that videos are made months in advance and therefore bilsu didn't know of glow pikmin* I'd be rich.
i know im late to the party, but something i thought of for the orange pikmin is maybe they could use their thorns to get stuck to enemies and be harder to shake off like those insufferable spikey seeds that stick to your clothes

1:24 flower colors tend to be based on the game. It was white (of course) for pikmin 1, pink for pikmin 2, and red for pikmin 3. And its going to be yellow for pikmin 4. Unless we are talking bloom which has an extreme variety of flowers so youre probably good there.
As I thought, dirt boy is best boy! But pineapple is a close second of course! The Zelda-themed one is a pleasant surprise too, but I don’t think I’d have the heart to send one out into battle because of its rarity…😅
Orange one is really cool Hylian is a really cool idea too Rose design is really cool but instead of a rose A venus fly trap! Or a more tropical flower that bites and maybe changes colors Keeping the thorns though lol the dark one is cool too but needs something else to stand out more the dirt one is a really good idea as well if it burrows for attacks ,hides,camo,stealth,recon but can be redesigned to stand out more
I love these Pikmin types and many ideas sprouted in my head so I’m just going to spit them out here. First the dark pikmin could upgrade each time the flower updates for example; the leaf would have 1 or 2 little spikes, the bud would have that mouth as you drew and the flower could have five spikes but still acting as a mouth doing the most damage. The first pikmin could camouflage making a surprise attack on enemy’s when on dirt/grass and maybe a new threat will be mud which only dirt pikmin can deal with. The rose pikmin does a little more damage then normal (because of thorns) but the most important part it can stretch making digging, carrying, building faster. Pineapple pikmin will have the trait of rock as they can’t stick to enemy’s but can stick other pikmin too it’s spikes, the idea would be good that they do damage after eaten but when I eat too much pineapple I have that lingering taste left to what if it does damage over time and will only die after a set number of seconds. The hylian pikmin would be super special with the shield for some defence but breaks after a few hits so they’ll have to hide and find another, the sword means it could do a battle stance instead of grabbing and attacking. That is my take at these beautiful pikmin drawings piknerd out.
Unique aspect for the dark pikmin could be, instead of getting faster when flowered, it forgoes the speed boost and instead gets a damage boost from the flower on its head.
The Dark Pikmin look cool but I think yellow eyes would pop even better on its black body; all Pikmin (so far) with compound eyes have them as the same color of their flower, so if they were to happen, then I can definitely see Black Pikmin sporting yellow eyes to go with this generation's flower color
For the Dark pikmin they could be stronger and faster in caves, the brown pikmin are a little harder but you could make a new hazard to justify them, rose pikmin could be strong attackers and could be able to link up and make bridges, ladders and ropes together, the orange pikmin could be impossible for things to eat for most things and able to latch on like a burr and be impossible to shake off
Love the design lore wise idk but i get this was more about the creative side and i just loved all of them i wish Nintendo would be more lax about modding i would like to see these and more as mods for the next game
I really like all the Pikmin! The Dark Pikmin or Hylian Pikmin is my favorite. Pikmin was a game I always played growing up so I have always liked it. Amazing Job I really like the Pikmin!
Here is some mechanics for some of the pikmin: so the dark pikmin is very strong in caves and gets a lot of buffs. In the sun, it is like a normal pikmin but can use the piranha plant to attack. The rose pikmin would get shook off much harder and deal some extra damage. The pineapple would be what you said
mechanics for all the pikmin: dark pikmin: pikmin 4 seems to maybe have night time, so it would be cool if there was a special nocturnal black onion. in this case they would be super strong like purples to fight all the nocturnal predators. the earth pikmin could be terrible at attacking, but immune to basically everything so it can carry things. if they get attacked by an enemy they would get burried instead of dying. the rose pikmin could do damage when it gets hit, and also not be able to be shaken off because of it's thorns. the pinapple pikmin could do a TON of damage when thrown at an enemy, but get stuck in the enemy's skin and not be able to do anything until you defeat the enemy. the hylian pikmin could run up and hit things with it's stick instead of landing on them. (that was the hardest to come up with.
My take on two of the pikmin: So first up the black one, it can curvive through the night, but is slightly weaker in damage than any other pikmin (you'll see why soon enough), however, it can obviously still die to being eaten by enemies, now, the reason for its lower damage is, for every night that it survives, it will carry over to the next (Im not sure if this is for every pikmin, i've never played any of the games, only a single playthrough like.. 5 years ago. So anyway, if you leave it outside to just.. get eaten, you can actually always go back to that area and it will still be there, however, for each number of them you leave behind, only half of them will survive, now for the worth of leaving them behind: for every time you do it, they will get stronger. Now the dirt pikmin: whenever there is any sort of wall that isnt destructible, this one's you guy, he can use his strangely scary looking claws to burrow underground, get to the other side of said wall, and find any sort of lever to push to open it, anything of the sort, you need to command other pikmin to push this one with them for it to fight, lazy little man, but he is decwntly powerful when actually fighting.
my ideas of what these pikmin do are - dark pikmin: it has a long range attack at knight or in dark places - ground pikmin: could kinda work like a conveyer belt that you can setup and they move things around. and they could be exclusive in certain levels like the glow pikmin - rose pikmin: it cant be thrown of enemies and does ddamge when hit - pinapple pikmin: it explodes on death and hurts every enemy in an area - hylian pikmin has an ability to doge some attaacks from enemies
ok as a fan of pikmin i shall see how good these little guys are with some thoughts on what they can do : D dark pikmin: hmm maybe you can find candypop buds at night you can use glow pikmin on in dark levels BUT you can take darks with you into the day after the dark level is over, ether way they could get stronger the more time goes by, weakest in the morning and strongest at night fall when the time almost up for the day (should have a "sunflower" pikmin to be a duo with this pikmin type that has the reverse effect) dirt pikmin: like the idea, maybe give them the faster digging skill that yellows have (those guys have too much anyways lol) could even be a long range pikmin attacker by throwing mud at enemies, maybe they even have a meter like the ice pikmin and clog up enemies with mud (makes the enemy harder to kill but slower, unable to see so they attack where no pikmin are or just not attack and weaker damage if they do) there is even mud areas in pikmin 4 so they could move freely in them while in return take less time to die in pure water (could even have lore as these are the "parasite pikmin" that you can find in pikmin 2's bulbmin, just taking over some mud than a dwarf bulborb) rose pikmin: these i love the most so far, when thrown they are harder to shake off then normal pikmin (due to the vines wrapping around their enemies) and when eaten it does damage like whites (altho acts as a DOT rather than a chunk like whites can do) but due to dangly ends they are slower than normal pikmin (still faster than purples) orange pikmin: seems like rocks with pure crushing weakness altho enemies that step on them take damage in return, could also be immune to explosion damage to give them something special (could even power up when hit with a explosive as well) hylian pikmin: treating this one as a DLC pikmin, can die from hazards BUT they don't react to them while also having a longer living span from said hazards, throwing them treats them like rocks (ether they stab into the enemy and hop off or bounce off as they strike like a jumping slash ether way they don't hold on) but charging with them is their B&B, they also can dodge on their own allowing them to survive more encounters easier (ofc can't do much if thrown/oatchi charged due to landing lag) in return it takes twice as much to carry things back (due to them having their hands full)
I believe that one of the required parts of designing a new pikmin is what kind of obstacle it is meant to overcome. The red pikmin are able to get past any obstacles that spew fire. The blue are able to deal with water. The yellow pikmin were able to be thrown to higher areas and could use bomb rocks to blow stuff up before Pikmin 2 introduced electric obstacles for them. White pikmin are able to get past poison gas and are able to detect buried treasure. The purple pikmin are able to carry 10 times what a normal pikmin can, making them required for objects that need more than 100 pikmin to carry. Winged pikmin are able to avoid ground hazards and lift things straight up. Rock pikmin are able to break glass obstacles. Each has their use outside of combat. That said, I can imagine a few obstacles for each pikmin. For dark pikmin, I would either have them be a pikmin that can work normally in dark areas while other pikmin go into a panic at being in the dark, or reintroduce the mushroom pikmin status effect from the original game and have these pikmin be immune to it (its flower simply eats the mushroom that tries to grow on it). Dirt pikmin might take the buried treasure detection ability from white pikmin and maybe get the ability to resist attacks that bury pikmin in the ground or possibly be able to keep attacking while buried. I would have the rose pikmin use those thorns to cling to the ground, making it able to traverse areas with high winds. I can see the orange pikmin taking yellow's lost bomb rock carrying ability (pineapple grenade!), and maybe being able to use other things. Maybe the silent princess pikmin could be some strange variety that acts as an AI-controlled captain. You might have some way to give it some simple orders that it can carry out with whatever pikmin you toss to it. Alternatively, maybe you could control it directly, but it'd have vastly different abilities from the captain character, possibly being able to throw itself but not whistle to other pikmin (SILENT princess). I can see it having a "lead by example" style to it where the pikmin it leads will attack whatever it attacks and try to carry whatever it tries to grab onto. Maybe a puzzle could be made out of controlling the route that a group of pikmin carry something.
You can call the Hylian Pikimin, Pikorimin, the fusion between a pikimin and a picori from Minish Cap.

I think, however, that unlike other pikmin, they'd be able to have multiple targets- so long as those targets didn't surpass their capacity. For instance, a rose pikmin could carry 5 different items with a carrying requirement of 1, or branch out and attack 5 different nearby enemies at the same time (though I think their damage would be distributed, rather than multiplicative). Their extra reach would tie them nicely to yellow pikmin's higher throw, and I think they could pull themselves out of water- though still not swim, themselves.
I like to think that for the orange pikmin, they'd have some interesting combat features; throwing them at enemies, they'd deal extra damage, but be stuck to the enemy until defeated; if enemies swallowed them, they'd take damage, but due to their natural acidity, as long as the enemy is defeated, they wouldn't die. This would tie them into red pikmin and yellow pikmin in some interesting ways thematically as far as combat (red pikmin with extra damage) and survivability (yellow pikmin with bomb rocks) are concerned. It's neat to see that other people had similar ideas though!

I dig these new pikmin. I remember playing the 1st and 2nd games when they came out. I am curious as to what potential new pikmin could be introduced in the 4th game aside from the ice pikmin.

I don't know if this just me but, the dark pikmin looks like it's made of rubber. I also when I first saw the orange pikmin reffered to them as the "Pineapple Pikmin". Nice job on all of them!

Yknow, the dark pikmin (for me at least) feels like a type of pikmin that wouldn't necessarily hurt you. Maybe they can be normal pikmin infected by a monster or smth, similar to a zombie, and it could infect YOUR pikmin too. The only way to heal them is to throw them into a pikmin-change bulb or maybe even get pikmin to find materials to make a spray, similar to the spicy stuff in pikmin 3.
Sounds kinda like puffmin
pikmin don't just have flowers, they also can have a leaf or bud, and the leaf is of course green! so that's why they don't make a green pikmin, because it would match the leaf, which is what they don't want.
Here’s what I think each pikmin could do:
Dark Pikmin: Jumps up and bites enemies, briefly stunning them.
Dirt Pikmin: Lured enemies towards it, then digs underground, causing the monster to trip and fall as it broods out and attacks.
Rose Pikmin: Latches onto enemies and slaps them, doing quick damage.
Orange Pikmin: When thrown, it gets stuck onto enemies until shaken off, slowly doing damage. When it gets eaten, it loses its spikes and gets spat out, allowing you to attack again, and they grow back from nectar.
Hylian Pikmin: Is able to evade enemies by quickly dodging, with standard attack power. Jumps off of enemies when thrown.
4:10 everyone always forgets bulbmin. The green glow around the flower shows that the parasitic is, in fact, green.
I like the idea that the Hylian pikmin would only spawn around either the spring of courage, or places where the shards of the courage triforce are located. Sorta like the spirit of the hero leaked out of them and infected the local pikmon (pikmin Pokémon).
I love all of the designs but my favourites are the dark pikmin and the rose pikmin
that Hylian Pikmin could be an ultra-rare Pikmin you could maybe get in a Pikmin and Zelda crossover event, or through a link amiibo

I had a dream where there was another type of pikmin called the piranha pikmin, it was a purple pikmin except it didnt have 10 pikmin weight, and you find the onion in a cave in the giants hearth and it looks like the pikmin that are infected by the toadstool in pikmin 1 but are actually friendly and they are very fast and do some serious damage, and you dont have to bring the onion out of the cave the onion instantly starts like onions in pikmin 3 and it would disable at the end of the day and then it would get sucked up by your main onion and it would add the onions color (its light brown colored) and they are very useful when you want to charge your pikmin at something, also i love your pikmin ideas and their designs are so good, i hope your interested in this nonexistent pikmin type explanation. *insert end of comment here*

Your pikmins gave me a vibe of a survival pikmin game, like you have the normal pikmins for fighting and exploring, and these new one more "work focused"
Black pikmins can fight at night, so they can defend the base in the night, an could convert other pikmins into black ones, but dont work in the day.
Dirt pikmins can destroy terrain but dont fight, so they can hide in the ground to not be atacked by predators
Green pikmins cold be the builders, they help making the walls etc. With their long arms
Pinapple pikmins are the farmers, so it there is a way to get a constant supply of fod
The hylian pikmin could act as a new character, just as olimar and the crew, he could be a leader...

It's fun knowing how chat influenced these designs. Specifically I remember chat saying that eyebrows would be good for the Green Min and someone mentioning the Silent Princess.
It’s interesting to see what someone who doesn’t know much about Pikmin comes up with for new designs. The games have always forced you to leave planet for the night so not sure where the Dark Pikmin would come in handy unless they are also better in battle in caves and such. Unless they let you stay on planet at night in this one, but I have my doubts as someone who has played since the franchise started and hasn’t seen all the promotional stuff.
The rose one I can see as being more difficult for enemies to eat straight out. They’d at least get damaged from it if not struggle more to eat it, thus giving a little more time to potentially save them. I could see them giving you some range with those vine arms and maybe having a conflicting description about battle efficiency like the flying Pikmin do(being simultaneously referred to as having great combat skills but also being bad at combat).
I think giving more of a variety to the flowers beyond just the color would be a good idea. I think the idea was that they’re just all variations of the same flower, hence why they only differ in color in the flower itself, but it would be interesting to see Pikmin of other flower types.
The trailer for pikmin 4 revealed a night mode
I think the green pikmin could use there thorny arms like whips say get some green pikmin an enemy has a shelid or even some spikes and you use them to rip of the sheild/spikes.

I had a similar idea for the spiky pikmin. Being brown or durian colored, it can survive being eaten by an enemy and can also damage it. They can also cling to walls and enemies to deal extra chip damage. Because it's like a burr, it can stay on enemies longer. When clinging onto a wall, it can go up them and retrieve items from them.
wonderful vid! i know i'm plenty late as i just recently discovered you, but I adore Pikmin and adore these designs, so if it's of any value, here are my thoughts!
0. Clearing something up but most facial features on Pikmin aren't simply to distinguish them, the only one with a specific facial feature that serves no function is the Purple Pikmin, Blues have a Gill for water travel, Reds actually do extra base damage because of the thorn that looks like a nose, Yellows "Ears" are for aerodynamic purposes, Whites eyes are probably for seeing in the dark as it's a cave dweller, and Pink- might be for show too idk.
1. Hylian Pikmin - Dope design! not at all practical, though I assume that's obvious so I won't go on about it too long here, Pikmin all have some unique ability when it comes to combat, exploration, and even in death for some, all things that, currently, act as a part of their natural moveset, not with the aid of weaponry.
2. Orange Pikmin - Genuinely an interesting concept aswell as a cool design, I'm not sure how it'd compare in terms of balance considering functionally it seems to just be a mix of Grey and Red but, i think the idea of it doing damage when eaten, unlike Whites that would kill if eaten, gives it something somewhat unique to themselves, perhaps it's bulky shape and numerous spikes would prove it the opposite to Greys, in that in can latch onto enemies, but it'd only be a one time throw until it's shaken off, as it'd get stuck.
3. Green Pikmin - Amazing design though it's use varies depending on introduction, but let's go down the list, in terms of Combat, perhaps a weaker option that unlike any other Pikmin, can't be shaken off? it'd have to do a very small amount of damage to balance this but, it's the direction i could see it going, we then move to Traversal, where i see this Min being very good at grabbing or activating things that are normally too dense for other Mins, small cracks, tight holes, stuff like that, all around it has potential, though i think for it to see full use, Nintendo would need to give it more unique obstacles to call it's own.
4. Brown Pikmin - Good design, Cute personality, functionally confusing, as it's just caked in dirt i can't see it being immune to Smashes like Greys, and i can't much picture it's tunneling ability doing a whole lot of anything, unless maybe they added a turnover feature? say enemies like the Bulborb had an even weaker spot on their tummy, perhaps you could use Dirt Pikmin to flip them over to reach that weak spot? but it feels a tad forced, not a bad concept at all but while i could see it doing good for Traversal, a good Pikmin should warrant use in combat aswell.
5. Black Pikmin - With Glow/Lime Pikmin being a thing in 4 now, more Nighttime exclusive Pikmin sound really fun to play with, that being said, a Pikmin with a maw feels too similar to Reds with their pointy thorn, i can't see this Min doing anything Reds can't, though if Glow Pikmin were repurposed from being all-arounders, having a Night equiv to a Red would be interesting, perhaps sprouting more ideas for an entire sub-set of Night Pikmin Variants.
All around, really cool video, really cool Pikmin, keep up the great work :D

Kinda think the dirt pickmin could use the dirt as a defense. A creature could try and eat it, but spit out when it gets a mouth full of dirt.
It could then get a new coat of dirt the nex day.
The orange pickmin could have a bromeliad-type type flower bloom from it's spiky leaves.

1:24 flower colors tend to be based on the game. It was white (of course) for pikmin 1, pink for pikmin 2, and red for pikmin 3. And its going to be yellow for pikmin 4.
Unless we are talking bloom which has an extreme variety of flowers so youre probably good there.
As I thought, dirt boy is best boy! But pineapple is a close second of course! The Zelda-themed one is a pleasant surprise too, but I don’t think I’d have the heart to send one out into battle because of its rarity…😅

PINEAPPLE PIKMIN THUMBNAIL?NOW YOU GIT ME INTRESTED
I love these Pikmin types and many ideas sprouted in my head so I’m just going to spit them out here. First the dark pikmin could upgrade each time the flower updates for example; the leaf would have 1 or 2 little spikes, the bud would have that mouth as you drew and the flower could have five spikes but still acting as a mouth doing the most damage. The first pikmin could camouflage making a surprise attack on enemy’s when on dirt/grass and maybe a new threat will be mud which only dirt pikmin can deal with. The rose pikmin does a little more damage then normal (because of thorns) but the most important part it can stretch making digging, carrying, building faster. Pineapple pikmin will have the trait of rock as they can’t stick to enemy’s but can stick other pikmin too it’s spikes, the idea would be good that they do damage after eaten but when I eat too much pineapple I have that lingering taste left to what if it does damage over time and will only die after a set number of seconds. The hylian pikmin would be super special with the shield for some defence but breaks after a few hits so they’ll have to hide and find another, the sword means it could do a battle stance instead of grabbing and attacking. That is my take at these beautiful pikmin drawings piknerd out.
Unique aspect for the dark pikmin could be, instead of getting faster when flowered, it forgoes the speed boost and instead gets a damage boost from the flower on its head.
The Dark Pikmin look cool but I think yellow eyes would pop even better on its black body; all Pikmin (so far) with compound eyes have them as the same color of their flower, so if they were to happen, then I can definitely see Black Pikmin sporting yellow eyes to go with this generation's flower color
For the Dark pikmin they could be stronger and faster in caves, the brown pikmin are a little harder but you could make a new hazard to justify them, rose pikmin could be strong attackers and could be able to link up and make bridges, ladders and ropes together, the orange pikmin could be impossible for things to eat for most things and able to latch on like a burr and be impossible to shake off
Love the design lore wise idk but i get this was more about the creative side and i just loved all of them i wish Nintendo would be more lax about modding i would like to see these and more as mods for the next game

Here is some mechanics for some of the pikmin: so the dark pikmin is very strong in caves and gets a lot of buffs. In the sun, it is like a normal pikmin but can use the piranha plant to attack. The rose pikmin would get shook off much harder and deal some extra damage. The pineapple would be what you said

mechanics for all the pikmin:
dark pikmin: pikmin 4 seems to maybe have night time, so it would be cool if there was a special nocturnal black onion. in this case they would be super strong like purples to fight all the nocturnal predators.
the earth pikmin could be terrible at attacking, but immune to basically everything so it can carry things. if they get attacked by an enemy they would get burried instead of dying.
the rose pikmin could do damage when it gets hit, and also not be able to be shaken off because of it's thorns.
the pinapple pikmin could do a TON of damage when thrown at an enemy, but get stuck in the enemy's skin and not be able to do anything until you defeat the enemy.
the hylian pikmin could run up and hit things with it's stick instead of landing on them. (that was the hardest to come up with.
and now we officially have a Green Pikmin
the Glow Pikmin
but you can also call the Glow Pikmin, the Luminescent Pikmin
My take on two of the pikmin:
So first up the black one, it can curvive through the night, but is slightly weaker in damage than any other pikmin (you'll see why soon enough), however, it can obviously still die to being eaten by enemies, now, the reason for its lower damage is, for every night that it survives, it will carry over to the next (Im not sure if this is for every pikmin, i've never played any of the games, only a single playthrough like.. 5 years ago. So anyway, if you leave it outside to just.. get eaten, you can actually always go back to that area and it will still be there, however, for each number of them you leave behind, only half of them will survive, now for the worth of leaving them behind: for every time you do it, they will get stronger.
Now the dirt pikmin: whenever there is any sort of wall that isnt destructible, this one's you guy, he can use his strangely scary looking claws to burrow underground, get to the other side of said wall, and find any sort of lever to push to open it, anything of the sort, you need to command other pikmin to push this one with them for it to fight, lazy little man, but he is decwntly powerful when actually fighting.
It would be cool to sprinkle in other Nintendo franchises as Pokemon/trainers, similar to Link's awakening

I could definetly see dark and mud as real pikmin but the other ones is a bit too complicated 😂
my ideas of what these pikmin do are
- dark pikmin: it has a long range attack at knight or in dark places
- ground pikmin: could kinda work like a conveyer belt that you can setup and they move things around. and they could be exclusive in certain levels like the glow pikmin
- rose pikmin: it cant be thrown of enemies and does ddamge when hit
- pinapple pikmin: it explodes on death and hurts every enemy in an area
- hylian pikmin has an ability to doge some attaacks from enemies
ok as a fan of pikmin i shall see how good these little guys are with some thoughts on what they can do : D
dark pikmin: hmm maybe you can find candypop buds at night you can use glow pikmin on in dark levels BUT you can take darks with you into the day after the dark level is over, ether way they could get stronger the more time goes by, weakest in the morning and strongest at night fall when the time almost up for the day (should have a "sunflower" pikmin to be a duo with this pikmin type that has the reverse effect)
dirt pikmin: like the idea, maybe give them the faster digging skill that yellows have (those guys have too much anyways lol) could even be a long range pikmin attacker by throwing mud at enemies, maybe they even have a meter like the ice pikmin and clog up enemies with mud (makes the enemy harder to kill but slower, unable to see so they attack where no pikmin are or just not attack and weaker damage if they do) there is even mud areas in pikmin 4 so they could move freely in them while in return take less time to die in pure water (could even have lore as these are the "parasite pikmin" that you can find in pikmin 2's bulbmin, just taking over some mud than a dwarf bulborb)
rose pikmin: these i love the most so far, when thrown they are harder to shake off then normal pikmin (due to the vines wrapping around their enemies) and when eaten it does damage like whites (altho acts as a DOT rather than a chunk like whites can do) but due to dangly ends they are slower than normal pikmin (still faster than purples)
orange pikmin: seems like rocks with pure crushing weakness altho enemies that step on them take damage in return, could also be immune to explosion damage to give them something special (could even power up when hit with a explosive as well)
hylian pikmin: treating this one as a DLC pikmin, can die from hazards BUT they don't react to them while also having a longer living span from said hazards, throwing them treats them like rocks (ether they stab into the enemy and hop off or bounce off as they strike like a jumping slash ether way they don't hold on) but charging with them is their B&B, they also can dodge on their own allowing them to survive more encounters easier (ofc can't do much if thrown/oatchi charged due to landing lag) in return it takes twice as much to carry things back (due to them having their hands full)
Glow pikmin are already green but this is already better

I believe that one of the required parts of designing a new pikmin is what kind of obstacle it is meant to overcome. The red pikmin are able to get past any obstacles that spew fire. The blue are able to deal with water. The yellow pikmin were able to be thrown to higher areas and could use bomb rocks to blow stuff up before Pikmin 2 introduced electric obstacles for them. White pikmin are able to get past poison gas and are able to detect buried treasure. The purple pikmin are able to carry 10 times what a normal pikmin can, making them required for objects that need more than 100 pikmin to carry. Winged pikmin are able to avoid ground hazards and lift things straight up. Rock pikmin are able to break glass obstacles. Each has their use outside of combat.
That said, I can imagine a few obstacles for each pikmin. For dark pikmin, I would either have them be a pikmin that can work normally in dark areas while other pikmin go into a panic at being in the dark, or reintroduce the mushroom pikmin status effect from the original game and have these pikmin be immune to it (its flower simply eats the mushroom that tries to grow on it). Dirt pikmin might take the buried treasure detection ability from white pikmin and maybe get the ability to resist attacks that bury pikmin in the ground or possibly be able to keep attacking while buried. I would have the rose pikmin use those thorns to cling to the ground, making it able to traverse areas with high winds. I can see the orange pikmin taking yellow's lost bomb rock carrying ability (pineapple grenade!), and maybe being able to use other things. Maybe the silent princess pikmin could be some strange variety that acts as an AI-controlled captain. You might have some way to give it some simple orders that it can carry out with whatever pikmin you toss to it. Alternatively, maybe you could control it directly, but it'd have vastly different abilities from the captain character, possibly being able to throw itself but not whistle to other pikmin (SILENT princess). I can see it having a "lead by example" style to it where the pikmin it leads will attack whatever it attacks and try to carry whatever it tries to grab onto. Maybe a puzzle could be made out of controlling the route that a group of pikmin carry something.
