Thanks so much! I have acquired quite a few Kenmore 158s because they are arguably the best machines Sears put out. I was starting to have doubts about my 1914. I cleaned and oiled it and used it some, then moved on to other machines I rescued. It came with a full complement of accessories, so I decided to try the buttonholer. Could not figure it out, even with the manual. Your video perfectly demonstrates how to use this attachment. My 1914 is not broken. I just need better reading comprehension apparently, lol! Thanks again.

Thank you so much for this video! I have a similar machine, it's old but it works great still. Love the all metal vintage machines!

I am wondering if the first machine part you replaced, after you lowered the feed dogs, came with the machine or the buttonholer? I have the machine and purchased the box of buttonhole accessories on EBay. I am missing that main piece? You did not mention what it is called. I have the Kenmore sewing machine manual I got online but that piece is not in it. I'd love to use the button hole accessory.

Hi, this may be obvious but I am attempting to use my attachment with an ultra-stitch 12 and am not sure which stitch I should be using. Do I use the straight stitch or button hole stitch or zig zag?

Make sure you drop your feed dogs. You will need to see which stitch to use by playing a bit. Buttonhole stitch setting moves the stitches to the left side and right side of the hole depending on the stitch number used. The zig zag is usually centre. About width 2 or 3 is usually good. Just try both and see which works easiest (sometimes the stitches are off to the side so you will use another stitch to centre it better).

Hi James I’m looking for a sewing machine like your do you know where can I find it?

Hmm you will need to check on Craig's list, eBay, Kijiji and so forth. If you have goodwill near you that might work. Also try stagecoach road sewing Machine and see if the have any.

James I have a Kenmore 1914 and I'm sure I have the wrong button hole/monogrammer drive attachment for it. They look almost identical. Mine is number 95158 what is the # on your Kenmore 1914 monogrammer plate?
And do you also know what machine my #95158 might fit?

The number on my plate is 95040. I am not sure which machine 95158 will fit. I would suggest trying one of the FaceBook Kenmore pages to ask which machine your box fits -- they may have a link to part numbers and machines.

Hi James, I am new to sewing and I have purchased the same exact Kenmore machine that you are demonstrating. I would love to find pressure feet, preferably a kit, for my sewing machine. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find anything on the Internet. Do you have any suggestions for me or maybe an alternative brand that would fit my machine. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and for any information you might have for me. Also I just love this attachment are you selling it or any others by any chance

I have used eBay successfully. You will find that there is a Kenmore and White sewing machine group on facebook -- we can post items for sale, and help guide you regularly from this site.
