5:40 that is exactly what i did, At 17 years old I got a job at the local furniture warehouse for the summer and saved every single penny and went on Facebook Market at just the right time to buy a 2000 yzf r6 as my first vehicle ever. Well it's all about commonsense really if you buy a bike at the beginning of winter most likely you'll need to know how to do maintenance right off the bat if you get mid to late winter most of that's done buy tires in summer and maintenance stuff for winter to beat the rush and always learn your bike learn as much as you can in general at comfortable on that bike know what all can be adjusted best way to keep riding best thing I ever did to but I didnt go get a 600 because I wanted to know all I could know but each is their own right

I remember turning 16 and getting my CBT. Pulling up to traffic lights on my Aprilia RS 50 and then seeing a K5 GSXR pull next to me; turning to my friend and saying I'll have one of those. Got a job where I could sustain myself to a decent level and within the first 3 pay-checks, walked into a bike shop saw a K5 GSXR in pristine condition with 4.9k miles on the clock and just smacked the deposit down. I got so excited the moment I saw it the deposit was down and the bike was mine 8 weeks later

The fairings on that bike aren't cheap if you tip of over. Put some frame sliders on it too. If you don't know what any of these words mean just google them :) oh, and Sean gives advice that he would literally benefit from you not knowing. I used to work at a dealership, a lot of people don't realize they can get better loans for buying a bike from their local bank or credit union then what they can get from the dealership. The dealership also gets a kick back when they set you up with financing. This guy is pushing people to get cheaper loans to save money even if it means he's making less. Can't complain about that.

He bought it brand new in 2004 and I was with him when he picked it up. It's never been wrecked or laid over and only has around 2400 miles on it. Told the wife I'm gonna buy it and after a few talks explaining why I want it she finally decided to not fight me on it. Looking into getting my license real soon.

The price checking is extremely important, but just sticker compare the out the door price. The dealership 2 miles from my house had a 2019 for $8,499 and another dealer had a 2020 of the same bike for $8,999. But the OTD price on the 2019 was $250 more than the 2020 which I had added a $500 option to. So I called the local dealer out on and they bet the price on the 2020 by $250 and they added the same option on. Dont be afraid to speak your mind and he assertive. The most powerful tool you have is showing them the back of your head as you walk out the door

I think with leasing it's very important to distinguish between financial lease and full operational lease. Financial lease is generally not the best idea, it's probably more expensive than going to a credit union or a bank and taking out a personal loan for the same amount.
Full Operational Lease, especially for brand new bikes, doesn't have to be a bad idea. It generally includes all taxes, insurance, maintenance, road side assistance, all that jazz. And in the end if you're bored with the bike at the end of the contract you just return it, if you want to keep it you can generally buy out the contract at the end. Also full operational lease cost is a good indication of the cost of ownership for a bike. My rule of thumb is that if I can't afford to get a FOL on a bike, I most likely can't afford to own it either.

I just bought a 2003 FLSTF Fatboy Anniversary from a dealer sight unseen in Nashua, NH. All the specs say the bike has 789 miles on it and the dealer who has been in business for 30 years told me that it is all original and that milage is accurate. I'm in Florida for the winter and will return to NH in April. I'm putting a lot of trust in the owner of the dealership. He said the owner bought it brand new thinking it would be rare and he'd make a killing. The owner is 85 now and his plans did not pan out. I paid $9600 plus the dealer is charging about $500 for all of the title and storage junk. I hope I didn't make a mistake. It's not my 1st Harley. I'm 74 and my last two bikes were a Ducati 1199r and an 850 BMW GS Adventure. The Ducati was too fast and the BMW was too tall. I just hope the HD will run like a new bike. He said he would put a NH State Inspection sticker on it. Can't imagine he wants to OK something that is not OK.

Well. I just checked online and basically made a shortlist. Then I went to the dealer. Did test ride nr 1 and nr2 on my shortlist. Turned out nr 1 was it for me. Then decided on buying it. Due to delivery problems waiting times would be long, but…… there was one sitting in the showroom at exactly the color I wanted. So it was an easy decision and pulled the trigger. Delivery about 2 weeks later. Next problem was that it was winter. So the break in period was done in marginal conditions at times. But also nice way to grow into the bike and gradually get used to the power.
Now two years down I am still riding my nr 1 choice bike. And am perfectly happy with it.
Only difference. I live in the EU. I did my driving lessons on a 650cc Suzuki with about 75 hp. No problem with that. After obtaining my license I rented a Honda CB650R for a long weekend of riding. Also no problem. So somewhere in the 100 hp range was the sweet spot for me.
Chose the Triumph Street Triple R. And what a bike it is! Just finished a 2k tour on it in 7 days without a sweat. Was restricted only by luggage capacity. At some point the clean sets of underwear run out and you have to stop to get them washed. Wanted to travel light because I bought myself a sporty nakedbike and not some kind of pack mule.

Bought my last bike off of FB marketplace. Agree. Much better than CL.
Also, the kind of riding you think you might do before you buy a bike will probably change. In fact, it usually does. If you're looking for just something to cruise around town you'll be surprised how much time you end up on the highway. If you buy a touring bike you'll be surprised how much you'd rather have a mid-size bike to cruise around town. I say, buy a cheap, low cc, first bike because you will definitely drop it and you will learn what kind of riding you like to do best (or if you even like riding at all). Then you can flip that and work your way towards your "dream" bike.

I must belong to the squirrelest Credit Union.
When I went to buy my first Harley in 2014, I called my Credit Union from the Dealership. They tried to make the same deal. Thought it was easer to let the dealer handle the financing. Thirty days later I got a call from the Credit Union asking if I purchased the Harley. They refinanced the loan at a significantly lower rate!
Traded my 2014 Sporty for a new 2019 FXLR and exactly the same thing happened with my Credit Union. They must get more points for refinancing then new loans…

Im 45 years old and rode 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers my whole life. Im
about to buy a bike and cant see myself starting on anything other than a
1000. I know how to drive around without 100% throttle all them time.
Im not understanding why everyone says start small, are they talking
about people who've never rode anything in their lives? I mean starting
on a 600 might be ok but people like me whove been on race quads for
years would want to know more was always there. It doesnt mean you have
    to drive crazy...

    • @YouMotorcycle

People are telling you to start smaller because you might have a lot of go-fast experience but it's on balanced vehicles only. Cool bike if it would run. it's been a week since I bought it and has been in the shop all but a day. it, they just smile at me.They definitely talk down to me.( Dealership "we don't build them" ). Wow some how it's my fault. And this was the second one, the first didn't make it off the showroom floor. Engine ticking. The second one keeps faulting out, no start until you clear all the faults. It's not always about what you want what if you dont fit on the bike you want alot of sellers wont tell you but alot of bikes dont fit everyone and they are fully adjustable and you can tell a person that's all about looks and not knowledgeable fists thing I noticed is they never adjust the clutch and break leaveers and they dont understand that affects their ability to have the max ability to stop to react to critical situations and usually these people put exhaust and wraps and just junk on their bikes when they never learned how to adjust nothing you never just hop in a rental car and not adjust the seat mirrors and steering wheel before taking off it's sad really that's a big part of accidents add speed tho lack of knowledge it's really dangerous you can always learn more always when ever a test ride a bike I always bring tools to adjust the bike so I'm 100 percent comfortable most people look at me like wtf but then I exsplane it and they learn something it's a win win
