My dream Pokemon spinoff is one where contests are the central mechanic of the game, hope you don't mind if I dump some of my ideas here lol - Instead of battling wild pokemon you try to impress them onto your team with a mini contest - If the wild pokemon isn't impressed, your team losses moral and you have to cheer them back up with items - NPC trainers from across all games can be guest judges, they have their own tastes that you have to strategize around - (Like youngsters will always give appeal for showing them Cool moves, even if it's a Cute contest and you de-hyped the crowd) - Characters that were champions and final bosses in the base games are pushover mini-boss in this because they didn't train for contests from the ground up like you did - The evil team is similar to Team Plasma in that they want their leader to be a celebrity so they can order the public around

Yesss!!Finally someone else who likes contests!I tried them out on a whim a few years ago and realised that there's a whole lot of depth to it,arguably more than any of the other side games that have been introduced in the games.Last year I did a "contest run" on Sapphire,where I played the game trying to collect all the ribbons while progressing through the story,same way you collect badges,and having this whole other dimension added to your team building plans,having to take into account the need for good contest moves/stats on top of good battling moves/stats made that playthrough that much more interesting.I really wish GF would add something like that again to the games,it's a shame they took contests out.

You really hit the nail on the head with the idea of contests as world building. Like 99% of people who pick up Pokemon games wanna train and battle, but there's no way the entire in game population is like that. There isn't quite a real world analogue to Pokemon but if we compare it to sports we see similar things. A lot of people like sports, but most sports fans are just spectators, some play causally, some use skills from the sport for performances/other forms of entertainment (Harlem Globetrotters, Dude Perfect, etc.) and a very small percentage actually play competitive sports professionally. It's really nice to see what people do when Pokemon battling isn't their main focus which is why I actually really liked Dawn doing contests in the Diamond and Pearl anime, despite me getting bored of them quickly when I played the games
I really hope sinnoh contests will return! I think the dance stage could be a proper rythmn game with the trainers dancing along with their pokemon (similar to the FF7 remake dance scene). Very out there but i think it would be cool. Also i kind of wish their was a battle phase like in the anime. I think I'm imagining if they combined super contests, nimbasa musicals and pokestar studio mini games together. They can be called Master contests
I used a Tyranitar named KILLER (it was a long time ago) that’s crushed toughness and coolness contests, I love him... too bad it didn’t get to keep the name in the most recent games
I was beyond excited to see contests return in ORAS, because my strangely flamboyant side *needs* to dress up my absol and have it dance on stage while stomping on the hopes and dreams of other contestants
I'm a big fan of the way they expanded contests in the anime. The idea of a Coordinator being just as much of a valid path for a trainer as competing in the league is awesome. Not to mention the way they make it more interesting by having the appeal round be purely about showing off your pokemon's individual talent, whatever that may be, and the second round being battles with the goal of out doing your opponent as opposed to simply beating them down. It's world building at it's finest, and I love it!
Well, my gradevoir may not be the most beautifull, but she's really smart. She's not liek teh other pokégirls that spent their life shopping and thinking about boys. She read books, she studied, (and she drunk lots of smart berry juice) and she became the smartest Pokémon alive, able to even outsmart an Alakazam in a chess match. Yeah, I wasn't the coolest at school, but who has its Pokémon on a freaking museum now, uh?

Pokémon contests are really cool, but I haven’t done much in them. Maybe I’ll go back and play some older games with them. It’s kind of cool how it shakes up the battle system. Choosing moves for a contest is completely different from choosing ones for battles.
