I think I see it, the white and blue square is the face and the blue and purple squares are the fists. It's in a 3x3 area and the face is in the middle.
The white block looking rectangle represents the lip part of the face while the three lines on top represents those three fins/whatever on the head
What we’ve learned: Lockstin really likes paisley and really hates minimalism.
Seriously. The Alakazam one is great. Period. You could go on throughout the day and no one would bat an eye. It's so simple and minimal.
A lot of the minimalist has just tiny pokemon on a big shirt which just reads poorly

@@spudsbuchlaw the snorax shirt works because they used the shirts negative space well as part of the drawing. and really snorlax isnt even drawn that minimalist. he has eyes and a mouth which is the opposite of minimalism. good minimalism is the alakazam design. low detail but still very recognizable, like those 5 blobs of black on white that look just like pandas
The Sandslash one was great: showing off the Pokémon enough to be fun with enough subtlety to be wearable.
I just don’t think I’ll be in enough situations formal enough for a collared shirt yet casual enough to wear Sandslash to justify $100.

Shame alot of them are just wallpapers from years ago slapped onto a shirt and tagged with high prices. Ever since pokemon go’s success all they care about is making money and it’s sad to see really :(

I thought he sounded like a person who really wanted a Pokemon shirt at the beginning, but most of the designs ended up being so bad, that some of the okay ones (but without the Pokemon aspect) ended up being more appealing ... A good indication that most of these T-shirt designs are severely lacking
imo he sounds like someone who wants a shirt with pokemon on it, he just has a particular taste in subtle/desaturated/grungy that this brand doesnt really account for.
And honestly I dont blame him for being picky. $100-$150 is dang steep for something you arent absolutely 100% in love with

When you started to ask if you were racist for thinking the Drowzee design reminded you of Mexican restaurants, I actually paused the video to think aloud to myself "No, it actually does give off a vibe similar to patterns common in Mexican culture, and it's pretty understandable if you'd mainly see that sorta design at Mexican restaurants, depending on where you live."
And then you just kept going on. About *cheap* Mexican food. And what fashion works well with *dark-skinned people.* And just repeating the word *nachos* for some reason.
Think about it some more.
Expensive restaurants will not have the waiters dressed in polos or just shirts, there's an entirely different dress code, is it really racist to say that waiters at expensive restaurants wouldn't wear such clothing? It's just the truth of the matter.
The next one wasn't a statement on what fashion worked well with dark skinned people, as you phrased it, it was what colour went with dark skinned people. That isn't rare that's just how colours are. Take ballet for an example, how there are costumes of a different colour for dark skinned ballerinas since it fits better that way. Pairing colours to other colours isn't racist, especially when it's known that certain colours work well with others for most people. And it's, dare I say it, the forbidden word, subjective how someone thinks colours pair up better, and not a matter of racism as much as it is personal taste. Unless you can argue in the statements he made he was stating that dark skinned people were not allowed to wear different colours, in which case you'd be correct in saying he was racist, but otherwise not.
And nachos was part of the joke made at the end of that segment. Mainly because that's what people of other cultures usually associate Mexico with. A joke made using an extremely common stereotype that isn't inherently racist, isn't racist itself. If you want to get into semantics, craving a food after talking about a certain culture isn't racist either. Just like when talking about certain foods people tend to start craving them, unless they actively dislike them, so would talking of a culture that is closely associated with certain foods. Not racist, he was never dismissive of Mexican culture, it was a joke that was made using a really common stereotype.

@@ledreca1546 "I'm not racist, but" always precedes kinda racist statements because nobody wants to be racist. But it's much better if we accept that we all have biases because nobody is perfect. The only thing we can do is try to correct those biases and part of that is to move past the attitudes and ideas associated with racism. I'm not saying we should never make a racial joke again in our lifetime. I'm saying that it's not going to do anybody any good right now, unless you want to attract the white supremacist types and turn your wider, more diverse audience off from your content.
But, ok. If I'm a SJW for suggesting that everyone, even good or entertaining people, can be a little racist and that it's not something to ignore but to gently work on fixing, then so be it.

Even "positive" stereotypes like "asians are good at math" only serve to de-individualize people of that group in the eyes of people who believe there's even an ounce of truth to it. And yes, pointing out the little biases people have is going to do something. It's better that we address the possibility that someone is racist than for us to just ignore it entirely. You wouldn't support someone's "rights to freedom of speech" if their TH-cam channel had things like Logan Paul did, so why would you support them despite the possibility of them being racist? The shitty things people do need to be talked about.

The shirts are all customizable, you can have different pokemons patterns on the sleeves, the lenght of them and IIRC, you can choose for the shirt to not have buttons

I guess pattern isn’t the right word. I guess the word would be icon or label. As an example, I think the Tangela shirt would be much better if the Tangela (eyes and boots) only appeared once, maybe over the heart area, and not repeat multiple times over the shirt. A simpler pattern with one area of intrest

I'm a little concerned by the fact that you're always mentioning how ghost-type clothes are for Halloween parties, or water-type shirts are 'great for the beach', like people can only dress based on their local climate or the time lmao.
I mean, when the ghost types get tombstones and the water types get baby blues and water droplets, you can't really wear something like that to a baby shower or something.

With that Growlith pattern, I theorize it is a reference to James’ Growlith in the anime. James from team rocket comes from a wealthy family and he had a Growlith as a pet. He left it behind so it can look after his parents.

For me the poliwhirl and poliwrath shirts were my favorites. The swirl patters just worked really well and I like the blues. But honestly, I kinda wish they would just sell the fabrics as they are so I could use them to make something else, like a dress or bandana, maybe even combine several of them to make something unique.
To note, in addition to being able to mix and match the fabrics with each other and with plain fabric (so you can have a minimalist design for the body and a loud one for collars and cuffs for example), they're also made to measure.
I have longer than average arm length and a slim waist, so good fitting shirts are sometimes rare.

2:35 Raticate's pattern is actually based on the Toile De Jouy (most people just call it Toile) design. It was big in the 18th century, most well known for farm life scenes. It's used as wallpaper or as cushions for antique or imitation furniture, but it's not unheard of to be used in apparel. I don't know if it's worth $100 as a shirt, but a fun fact never the less.

Something you didn't mention about the Dratini shirt that I wish you did... the lines are the paths of falling raindrops! You see them splash on the top of Dratini's head! Adorable!
Makes me wonder though, why weren't Dratini and Dragonair Dragon/Water instead of pure Dragon? I mean, it's not unheard of for Pokemon to switch their secondary typing for another upon evolution, there's Surskit, Skrelp, Nincada, and more!

I think the house on the Growlith shirt was a reference to James's estate where he lived as a rich kid. In that episode we're introduced to his childhood companion "Growlie."

One thing that I think makes it better is that you can put multiple patterns on a shirt to do an evolution line in one shirt.
the raticate shirt fabric is actually a classically designed Toile de Jouy which is also a classic textile design. Also the problem with most of these fabrics is the repeat is very small and not really engineered for the dress shirts

Regarding Growlithe and the house at 6:31, I have a hunch that is James' parents' house since he had a Growlithe :)
So, this made me think and I kept looking at the designs on the website and on other pictures.
I'm pretty sure that the websites photos are just very light, so the colors are not that visible (especially on the Dodorio one)

yeah, those patterns would be better as the inside of the shirt. Like you can see it when you roll up your sleeve cuff or under the collar.

Considering this video was made like half a year ago, I doubt you'll see this but the growlithe one having a house is actually super clever!
It's paying homage to the anime, where James had a growlithe and his house looked very similar to the one on the shirt. Also growlithe is often used as a guard dog, so it's guarding the house.
(Also the vaporeon one isn't even close to vaporwave... :/)
The Pokemon shirts does have customization especially for combining patterns at the: sleeves, the button area, the collar both inside or out and even for a pocket as well. There are interesting combinations especially have the evolved forms of certain Pokemon or even your personal choices of the patterns. So for example having seel and dewgong combined or even other Pokemon as well, but its all to your personal choice. I would say my favorites are: vaporwave vaporeon, paisley kakuna, a pop of vileplume and Swirly poliwrath. So thanks for the insight for this product. I hope they make a cool conceptual one of spewpa, like bits of red and black checkers with maybe geometric designs as well.
