- This is Day 3 of Bikepacking the Ohio to Erie Trail Solo. I spent a week riding my bike from Cleveland to Cincinnati. Experience riding through Amish Country from Massillon to Millersburg. But the day ends in a tornado shelter.

I live 8 miles west of Millersburg. We had about 5 days of power outage after that storm. We still see quite the tree damage in our area. I've been home ill for a few days and I'm really enjoying your videos. It's giving me the bug to do a longer bike trip with my husband!! Thank you!!
It was so unreal. You’re seeing just a small portion of what we saw out there. My first experience with a derecho storm. I felt so bad for y’all. I can imagine it takes a long time to recover from something like that.
Thanks! Glad I could offer you some inspiration to bike tour! It’s so fun! And other trips did not go down like the OTET. Lol
I live between Dalton and Millersburg so it was especially fun seeing this section of the rout.
I really loved that area. So pretty! I hope that storm did damage you and your family.
Haha, I knew what was coming but still had to see it!
Very interesting video. I do ride the towpath regularly from Massillon to Canal Fulton, however I’ve never seen the route from Massillon to Dalton until now. Good stuff 🙂👍🏽
Thanks. I really enjoyed that road section from Dalton to Federicksburg.
Loving that I can binge watch these right now! For sure want to attempt this eventually!
Do it! OTET is so fun!
This is a great journey. I am enjoying it.
Thanks. It was a great one.
This is a great ride !!!
Thank you for these videos.
I have not ridden the 17 mile road section from Dalton to Fredericksburg.
It seems very hilly!
Tornado siren at midnight and you next day 4 ride looks adventurous!
I have watched numerous videos of the Ohio and Erie ride and yours are the best!
Thanks David. That’s an awesome compliment! The rest of my OTET ride was such a crazy trip. You’ll see. Lol I highly recommend that road section. It’s gorgeous and not as strenuous as country riding here outside of Louisville KY.
Loving this .can't wait until the next one.
Thanks. The next one will be a doozy!
So the pictures in the hotel were cool, as was the hotel but something about them in the bedroom made me a little iffy on the place. Haha, would’ve still crashed out after a day in the saddle regardless. Looking forward to the next video after talking to you after both our trips to Cleveland.
Thanks. Gotta admit the photo of the woman above my bed did creep me out. But not any worse than the storms.
thanks for sharing, and responding!! I noticed your bike, and it seems like an off brand. It also you said is steel which is a good thing. The only thing i noticed was that your fork has no braze on\s, and you said it was carbon. that is no good!! I have bikes with a carbon blade, but i really don't like carbon at all. I really don't know why they put a carbon blade on a steel frame bike. that makes no sense to me. Anyhow ,go get you a better bike. May i make a suggestion!! Look, i have several bikes some gravel and some touring. Yes i like steel, and some of my touring bikes are steel, but i also like aluminum. A good aluminum bike made for touring is gonna be a super good bike. And don't listen to all the hype about steel for touring bikes. Yes ,its the best!! but don't under estimate an aluminum touring bike. I mean it will get the job done. I went out and bought me an Ozark trail g-1 gravel bike made for touring and bike packing. please don't laugh, a wal mart bike. yes i know!! But this bike is solid. this bike has been the craze and most talked about bike on da internet, and for good reason!! I know bikes.I went out and bought me one just to try out.The only issue with this awesome gravel bike / touring bike is who build the bike. yes the ideots at wal mart. When i got mine, i had to re adjust the drop bars, and re do the head set/ pump up the tires , and grease the seat tube, then and only then could i roll it out of the store. once i got it home, i rode it and it rode really good, but i had to take it to the bike shop and grease the bottom bracket. Look, here is what you get for 250 dollars/ yes i know!!! internal routing/ index shifting/ a solid aluminum frame 6061 with a steel fork on it with 3 braze ons / on each side plus other braze ons. the bike comes with double wall rims and 36 spokes each wheel. and it has a long wheel base with a kick stand and comes stock with kenda tires. are you kidding me.. Here is what i have done to mine. A new gel saddle/ a new adjustable stem/ a new cassett for climbing gear/ a new rear touring rack. and a new axiom front low rider rack/ new extra bar end tape over the original for more comfort. now this week i am putting a new bottom bracket and new crank set on it. it comes with a 2x drive train. when all complete , i'll put it up against any touring bike out there. I also put a seat post suspenion on it. my total build cost 360 dollars+ 250 for the bike which is a total of 610 dollars. Again, ill put it up against any touring bike out there. Go on line or better yet go on youtube and look at all the videos about thiis awesome bike. Sorry for the long post, but i see that you like to bike a lot like me. go check out the g-1 gravel bike. My nice 2000 dollar carbon fork gravel bike is collecting dust. I am out riding the 250 dollar bike all the time, and if you get one, i garunteee you will leave that other bike in the garage , and you to will be out on your g-1 gravel bike.
Love the videos from this trip! Congratulations!! I was wondering how you mount your GoPro? Is it attached to your handlebars?
Thanks! I use a flex clamp with a swivel mount.
I'm from Akron and one day I hope to do this same trip. Maybe you discuss in your later videos, but I'm curious as to how much you spent on this entire trip?
I actually don’t really cover the cost. My Hotels were about $650. Spent prolly $200 on food, shuttle was $200. That was pretty much everything. I don’t set a daily budget as I treat it just like other vacation. Treat yo self! 😁
@@DeniseLookingOut Thanks for the reply!
Sippo as sip oh. Not seepo.... Dalton is dal ton, not dulton.... Before we moved out of the area, that was my favorite walking trail, and I did ride my bike from Massillon to Dalton several times.
Ha I can never pronounce towns correctly. Sippo Valley was a nice trail especially in the morning.
Could you tell me what time of the year you road this trail? Would you recommend going in the summer?
I rode the OTET in early June with an early heat wave. Summer is typically great on the OTET. The northern section is always going to be a little cooler than the rest of the OTET with Lake Erie.
Do you tike I could get my incumbent trike through hotel room doors?
I imagine you would need double doors.
What kind of bike would be best for this trail?
Any bike will work on the OTET even skinny tire road bike. I did it with a steel tour bike with 35 tires.
What is it about the OTET and animals that just want to jump through my spokes! Haha.
@@noisufnoc it’s not just the OTET. I was just on the Erie Canal Trail and little chipmunks were all about darting in front of us.
how did you know what roads to take? just curious!! i think you said you had no gps. maybe you had maps.
So I had maps that I ordered from OTET and I had the Ride With GPS file on my Garmin but I forgot to change directions on it, so it beeped at me a lot to go northbound instead of the actual direction I was traveling southbound. The road section was super well marketed with signage in that Millerburg section. Where it gets tricky is in Columbus. I'm an urban rider so I just used Google Maps with the bike layer to get through downtown.
Can't to do this next year
You’re gonna have a great time!
