- Day 5 of Bike Touring The Katy Trail in Missouri, one of America’s best long-distance rail trails. The Katy Trail stretches 240 miles from Clinton to Machens, Missouri. It also holds the title of America’s longest continuous rail-trail. We awoke in a city park campground in Hermann, Missouri, a German village and Wine Country center. Watch cycling through bluffs, beautiful countryside and green tunnels on our way to bike camp at Klondike Park in Augusta. Check out what we encountered that September day.

Did you just flip us off at the beginning of the video?😁
Seriously though I enjoy your videos. I like your casual and no pressure style of bike touring. I live just off the trail in Sedalia and have ridden the entire trail several times and use the it almost daily. Watching your journey I see so many familiar sites it makes me want to take another multi day trip.
Hahaha it was the only finger free to push up my glasses 🤓😂🤣 Thanks! Flex touring is how I roll.
Wow what an amazing trail to have in your backyard. Glad you’re able to take advantage of it! Enjoy your next adventure on the Katy.
I like that you took time to explore the places. Everyone else just rides through.
These trips are my vacation so I really want to get out there and explore and not just power through. The stops really make the trip for me.
@@DeniseLookingOut that's my perspective as well.
Thank you for taking us along! We did the Katy 11 years ago and loved it. Can’t wait to return again this September!!
Great Video and good luck
There is an awesome donut shop on the main drag. Best donuts I’ve ever had.
Now you’re speaking my language. Love me some good donuts. I’ll have to add it to the list.
I am excited to see the next legs of your trip.
Thank you Denise for all your great cycling videos. My wife and I are retired and go on cycling adventures every summer. Your videos give us great ideas. And yes, we did the Katy just before Covid and it was September and hot. Great trip tho.
Enjoying the Katy trail videos. For some reason, I can't find day 6. Just like in real life, when I get a chance to do the Katy trail, I want to finish it. Thanks again for sharing!
Welcome to Hermann !!! (Pronunciation: Her - min) 😆
No shame in walking up those hills. When I saw the climb up to Klondyke campground, I decided to keep riding to Defiance for the night instead 🙃. Another great video, looking forward to the next one 👍
Ha I hear ya. It’s bit of walk up. But it was the best camping we did on the Katy. Next video coming soon. I’m almost finished with it.
Hi Denise, I really enjoy your videos, they have inspired me to attempt some bike touring on my own. A year ago I had shoulder surgery and was looking for anything to distract me so I could avoid the drugs. I stumbled on your videos and watched them a few times each. I have always wanted to do some bike touring but was a bit apprehensive, it was easy to watch your videos and imagine myself riding along. I am 68 so planning is important but this fall I will hopefully be doing the GAP, enjoying the trails during the day, staying in motels or B&B at night and some local beers. Please keep the great content coming.
Cheers don
Hi Don! Thanks for the compliments. That’s awesome that you’re gonna get out there and enjoy bike touring. The GAP was incredible. I loved that trail, can’t wait to do that one again.
Love your videos do a great job . ❤
Yay!! Another video on a cold Feb day in New England. Thank you, can’t wait to watch it.😊
Thanks! TH-cam helps me get through winter too.
Nice !
Thanks
Ohiopyle now has a hiker/biker campsite at the base of that trail along the G.A.P🥳
I heard that. I also heard you have to prebook those which is tough if you like flex touring like we do. But I wanna get back to the GAP and check it out.
Great video, Denise!! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures!!
Thank you!
Jealous I couldn’t make this one and bummed I couldn’t be your trip’s mobile mechanic. (I need more vacation days!)
Did you have a last video into St. Charles? Enjoyed your trip videos.
I'm enjoying your trip. Can't wait to the next video. What has been your average speed on the trail.
Thanks. Editing the last day on The Katy now. It’s vacation for me so we took it slow and stopped a lot. Sometimes we averaged 10 miles an hour, other times we averaged 15.
I’mi live not far from Hermann and my favorite restaurant is Wings A Blazen
I’ll have to try that on my next Katy Trail ride.
