Yeah, it's the same way with the west coast of Canada, it snows half an inch and the world shuts down. More inland, it snows a foot, everyone continues on with their everyday life.
The X-Type is a splendid car and the fact that it is based on a Mondeo is a good thing because that is a superb car too. The Jag looks great, drives well has plenty of kit and is supremely comfortable, not to mention being fantastic value too.
+Eric George is it reliable, and expensive to maintain???
To the best of my knowledge they are very reliable and costs are reasonable for its class.
I have an x-type sport, 2.5L. I adore the car because it can handle anything, while looking excellent at the same time. Fairly powerful, supremely comfortable, unbelievable in snow, and four doors.
Chris Hill You are a very lucky guy, I'd love one.
1 of the best tv shows ever!!!!
agree...in a test that I read 2 years ago, a fwd car equipped with four winter tires outperformed a fwd montero with all season rubber on it in absolutely every discipline....
I love my X-TYPE!
If a bunch of leaves fall on the train tracks it all comes to a hault. What we call cold is going outside and it's not raining.
I live in Iowa. United Kingdom doesn't know the definition of cold and we get genuine winters here in the Midwest. On a cold day with a brisk wind, we could see a wind chill of -31 Celsius.
I had many German cars but my x type gave me less problems then any other German cars. Bmws and c class Mercedes sufferes with lots of issues. I have experienced them myself so please who ever says bad about x type please don't start argument as well be pointless. Also people who says jags are bad first go and buy them, then drive and after make a comments.
another canuck here, and it gets bad in america too. a person from my church went to colledge in the states, and when it snowed about 3 inches and the radio said go out at threat of death and her friends didnt want to leave the house. she went out for a walk.
What he was driving on was an average city street during the winter here. His eyes would pop out if he saw what the roads look like where they aren't plowed...
i live in canada right in the snow belt region.. which is why i have always had an impreza
Love watching the British and even southern US folks freak out over snow while we drive our trucks through it for 6 months every year haha
ya dude im not in canada but im in minnesota and thats close enough.. our snows fun, iv drove thru canada during winter
Here in Canada, our highways stil do +90km/hr regardless almost regardless of the weather... but most of us use real winter tires, keep good distance and drive properly maintained vehicles.
"two tribes go to war" is the song by frankie goes to hollywood
LOL agreed....and the roads in Minnesota can get pretty crazy too, especially in the hills and it's illegal for us to have spikes or studs on our tires because they say it ruins the roads -- so they use salt on the roads in which ruins our CARS! Makes no sense IMO....But yes, those roads were baby roads I would drive a Corvette with factory tires on those roads with no problems lol
saab turbo x is the right car!!!
incredible on tarmac and on snow, in fact i made bmw drivers and mercedes drivers crazy on highways (only pushing half down on the gas)and subaru and other 4x4 crazy on the snowy icy roads of the mountains of switzerland.
We got maybe six inches of snow here in Montana one night at the beginning of winter, and a kid that I knew that had just moved here from Seattle was shocked that you could have so much snow, he had never seen more than an inch of snow before, which is apparently enough to close school down. I about died laughing
I'm betting that this is NOT what Jeremy would call a lot of snow. After all, he went to the North Pole in a Land Cruiser.
What he Is saying though, is that the British people are a bunch of nannies, and that - yes - AWD *is* indeed nice in slippery conditions and he like the Jag.
First thing I saw on Top Gear a while back, have now seen every episode at least 3 times.
same truck i have, havent been in snow yet, except on a big hill
Drove mine up St Peter in Switzerland, one of only 3 cars made it to the top loaded with the family and ski kit! . Nice motor, Sad to sell it soon they dont make any more, wo will have to be usual Audi/Passat/BMW but plug styled car next I guess.
Mine is crap in the powdery stuff, but I am assuming that the wet, salty snow here in Maryland is the reason that I can drive my Accent without issue.
5:30 = Gold.
Clarkson, you keep on doing what you're doing.
Are you here brother
I use there Finland system in my front wheel drive corolla. In corner I give same hand brake and it gets corner much much much better. Plus side of this all so is that is funny as hell :)
After totaling my Junky 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer (thank god) I went to my buddy who's the GM at a dealership. He begged me to test this X-type sport sedan. Reluctantly I test drove it and immediately I wanted it and bought it. Love this car!... Volvo's wow now those are cars that are built. My friends 960 had over 350,000 miles when her parents bought her a new car becuase the volvo need the sunroof track repaired and a AC recharge. Its still inuse at a local shop as a loaner car. Over 400K
It's just as much on experience as it is on the car and the type of snow. I live in Maryland now, but used to live in Colorado. While in Colorado I bought a Hyundai Accent which struggled heavily in the powdery snow of Colorado, but come to Maryland where it is thick and slushy the car seems to get great grip and traction. Using what I learned driving in Colorado I tend to fly past the people in the annoying SUV's.
Subarus are extremely popular around here, and for good reason.
lawl the Cossie 4x4 has no problems at all driving in snow ;)
yeah man reppin O town
@slickmovedud Agreed. I'm Canadian and the first time I ever drove a car was at night in the snow with the all the items you mentioned in the trunk.
True enough, Nissan Quest with BFG Winters and it just plows through. Stops and steers quite well also.
wow i can take three times that snow in my old ford aspire.. and thats practically a geo metro just a litle bigger..its not that hard to drive in snow i handled that litle aspire going same speed as the big 4 wheel drive trucks.. funnest iv had in the snow was my aspire racing a geo metro drifting everywhere passin each other.. good times..
Yes, oh yes, OH YEES, yes
"i need a bit more gravity" killer
The Awd works lovely, and I've got the 3.0 liter V6 it really moves the beast...
We only fought Americans once, and at that time, they were just a different faction of Brits. Also, they had help from France and Spain, and a big ocean. It hardly counts.
I hope the BBC is going to post in studio stuff as well. Like there comments after there car items, the news bit, cool wall and when the tally up the scores for there mucking about missions and ect...
Are You here ??? Reply me
good luck with it, lots of sand bags in the back helps a bit
i wanna see him in a minnesota winter with a chevy S10 RWD
that would be amusing
Nope.
There is a TopGear boxset, but its not of the actual shows.
Its a combination of 3 DVD's. These are compilations or DVD specials, such as the TopGear Winter Olympics or "The Challenges".
But of the actual full series shows, no, there are no DVD versions at all.
this song is from: "new world symphony" from antonin dvorák.
had a quick look on their uk site and didn't find any. probably because the snow is scarce in this country..
Very funny to see what Jeremy considers to be snow, and even funnier that he would think you need AWD for that! LOL being from Canada as alot of you other posters are, i know what it's like to drive through 2 feet of snow with rear wheel drive and bald all season tires. lol
My German car is quite nice even in the snow and it can even chirp the tires in second all with 159 hp.
JAAAAAG.......
"i need a bit more gravity" lol
yeah that seems like a few years ago I can never forget that day. LMAO
Actually that is just like Alaska, trust me, i live in anchorage.
Yeah I think that Rover 75 is a great car. good choice
the only thing you need is winter tyres
AGREED
Love JAGUAR!!!
What about BMW 3 series Xdirve or the Merc 4Matich or the Audi Quattro?
They all would do great on those roads.
There aren't any AWD BMWs in the UK because it would cost too much to re-engineer the car for right hand drive. Thats the same reason why Mercedes won't bring the new GLK to the UK, the cost of re-engineering the car and selling it would be huge and they wouldn't make any money as nobody would want an X3-sized car that costs £50,000.lol
ive always liked my x type. good exhaust note for a small 2.5 liter. its a little underpowered but if i wanted a sports car i should buy an xk8 since you can get both for the sameish price
I love the Canadians and Canada, I have family in victoria, British Columbia.
I would say that some of the most beautiful places on our planet come from Canada.
We all know that the USA is only there to keep Canada afloat!
After the UK, Canada is my most favourite country on Earth.
Finally, unlike the Americans, no-one dislikes Canada or Great Britain. Do they?
I belive the music that starts 4:20 is "Noble Globe" by James "Jim" Dooley. I have been trying to find it on Spotify, ITunes etc, but when i searched for it on TH-cam I only found two clips. :(
The first is called: Tour de France à la Voile : Bretagne - Crédit Mutuel Elite sur le Grand Prix
The second is called: Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Beta Gameplay [HD]
Damn good car in heavy snow. I know, I have one. And while the big SUV's are stuck on the side of the interstate because they don't know how to drive.... I go wizzing by at 60 MPH straight and true for 4 years going. To damn bad they stopped making the car.
I cant agree more my friend... audi quattro system is perfect.... in snow and everything
Not overly common no. The amount of snow we get doesn't really justify paying for winter tyres but they are used by people who live in areas that are more prone to snow
They think 5cm is dangerous, our canadian winters get 1-2m. I agree.
Jaguarish:D
thats alot, simlar to the saab 95 i used to have, keep it up
i cant think of the episode im looking for, im pretty sure it has the XKR porsche 911, and another car, cant remmebr, but they are on a beach, a really long beach and they just play aorund in the sand and watter...
you only need an suv or truck in the snow when it gets deep when its a mere loss of traction as in this review a car is fine if you have the skills of course
-So true ;) That's why I have a Mercedes and my wife has a Lexus SUV.(My Ferrari 328 likes to winter in the garage ;)
Do you REALLY get that amount of snow? No more?!? Wow! That's weird o.O I always thougth that you get real winters in Britain. How cold it can be?
Okay, for everyone that might be wondering - 3:40 = FOUR TET - As serious as your life
wow he really wasn't driving in that much snow. cant imagine what they do when at least 6 inches rolls around.
Think you'll find the 2.5 & 3.0 are 4x4 thats why chap. Not the 2.0 or 2.2 diesel or 2.0V6.
he mentioned a bmw 3 series estate with rwd...do they not have awd beemers in the uk?
i want a X type sedan 3.0 with the XKR BBS Detroit
:D
The estate version does not have the mondeo underpinings.
man whats with the intence music its like 3 cm of snow lol
don't say that at 4:36 mini-van driver has pedal to the metal.
I really wish we had this in the US...
Does this show off the Jag? Or is it Jeremy's driving, hmm?
Does anyone know a music from 4:22 in this clip? thanks in advance
Funny. What a wacko! Love top gear.
thats a nice car. How many miles ( or kilometers) have you got on it? Ive got a saab 93 turbo x 2.8 L, its supposed to be inspired from the saab 900 turbo. Do u know it? if u dont there are some vids on youtube.
Ahem. I believe it was actually "Canada" (as part of British rule) who defeated the Americans in 1812...
i love you canadians
Pfft.. Do some winter tyre testing instead. That's what really matters in 'the arctic'.
as he said the weather people got it wrong
it most definetly is. it peaked a couple of months ago at $1.10 american.
I hate the snow while driving, i'd rather get a bus or train to work when the snow and ice is on the road.
top gear is like way KooL...
heeh hell yeah thats the way
with the monaro on the beach and they cant decide with is better?
Can someone please tell me what the orchestral music that starts at 4:22 is please? I've been dying to know for aaages now =/
my RWD truck with out weight in the rear and no traction control to speak of could cope just fine in what he was driving on.
'underneath it's a actually a Mondeo...'
Who knew?! 😑
lookin at the eyes, the SAS guy looks like hamster... hehehe
that is fucking sick! id love to drive a car down a ski slope while some1 skis or boards down with me hahaha like a subaru or sumthin
why dont you go comment on a USA top gear if your so good
Can someone please tell me the name of the song at 0:43?
please reply
I can't help but this is series 4 episode 9. & if you google 'top gear music' you will find a few websites that list songs for each episode of each series minute by minute.
In switzerland you can buy bmw 3 and 5 series with x-drive computerized awd system :P (sorry 4 my bad english)
Why has this got an advert if the BBC don't believe in advertising?
Grappig
Jeremy, leer skiën
yea, i got the push button 4wd, but i thought about taking my no good spare and filling it with rocks or water...
i hope you're just kidding, American english isn't the only english out there! Hood and bonnet, sedan vs saloon etc. Your make your call, no grudges beared!
