    I love my clio! My first car and it is a puppy! I love the raw engine sound. But since it's only a 1.2 it's more of a pur. Handles like a beaut. The speed doesn't matter because you sit so low it always feels like you're going fast. So many memories from my first car. I love it!

    Picking up a Clio 182 Cup in inferno orange tomorrow, can't wait. Everything seemed pretty much spot on during the test drive, apart from the very stiff clutch (which I've heard are common) and the 94k miles on it (been serviced about every 7k miles since new); it was in really good condition. Just hope it is reliable since this is my first ''fast'' car after my bimmer which I intend to keep for at least a couple of years.

    • @carfanatic1827
      @carfanatic1827 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +TheCarFanForever Thanks, everything is still working perfectly and not a single problem, apart from the over sensitive interior sensors which is now fine. It had a major service a few weeks ago for peace of mind and I have some KTR discs and pads arriving next week some time so I can start going on track days. But has not let me down yet (touch wood).

    • @carfanatic1827
      @carfanatic1827 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TheCarFanForever It's entirely up to you, I was actually going to go for an EP3 Civic instead of this but the insurance prices are triple what I pay for the Clio. But if you have the money there are loads more options for you to look at, I like any car and what ever car you drive (as long as you are a petrol head) I will respect it. But another warning is that the clutches are very heavy in these Clio's which is common, it took me a few weeks for my left leg to get used to it lol.

    I've been in one of these cars and it isn't anywhere near as bad as Clarkson makes out!
    The seat is fine! When he says "You either sit bolt upright or lying down", its out the seat works!
    Instead of a twist action, its more a release and ratchet system... like how most seats move back and forth.
    You release it, set it to how you want it and then let go.
    It works better than the twist action! Its faster to adjust!

    It's a bit ungainly, it's uncomfortable... - ...it's amazingly comfortable, it just glides over bumps. !? Sometimes Jeremy...

      sometimes? Everytimes!

    • @IgorBagayev
      @IgorBagayev 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      As I understood, it's uncomfortable because of seats, noise and interior. However the ride quality is good, I mean suspension absorbs surface uneveness nicely

    • @clio2rsminicup
      @clio2rsminicup 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Let's stop hypocrisy: Clarkson is just the typical arrogant and deceptive (deceptive because why a such incredible arrogance when we see really them and know the truth?) English-roastbeef Francophobe, and it is all here. It is in their education and the life for their childhood vs their old "French Masters" for some years 1066 and 1453. ^^

  • @tom2812

    @rotarylover When he says it's uncomfortable at 3:20 he's referring to the driving position but when he says it's comfortable at 4:15 he's referring to the ride quality. There's a big difference between the two so what he says is perfectly valid.

    To clear this up the 182 was available with a cup handling pack and a cup spoiler pack. The 182 cup was a different car again. It wasn't stripped right out like the 172 cup it just had less extras and weighed 20kgs less which made it a tiny bit quicker and more nimble. The video is confusing but many have been right by saying that the driving position is uncomfortable but the ride is comfortable. Renault have always been good at making their hot hatches ride the bumps and not crash over them.

    I know someone who picked up a EF honda civic with a b16 in it...exact same performance...for 400$. Than put that motor in a CRX that's gutted out with suspension with a total of maybe 2k spent...good looking, handles on a dime and does a decent 1/4 mile time that's as reliable as your lawn tractor.

    Its normal for fwd cars to be a tripod, but it doesn't mean they aren't fast.
    Two things I agree at least: I drove a clio II, and it was very fun to drive and made me want to do something mad.
    Drove a Clio I before it, but wasn't the same thing. :P

  • @soundseeker63
    @soundseeker63 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Klosari032 Seems paradoxical, as the cup package actually comes with lower suspension, sportier tyres and less sound insulation to save weight.
    When he said it was uncomfortable, I think he mean the poor range of seat adjustment and high noise levels, rather than the ride comfort, which somehow is better on the lowered stiffend "cup" set up.

  • @xitup1
    @xitup1 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's "amazingly comfortable" after all the additional stuff (better suspension, tires, etc.) is all added.

  • @Quentyn73
    @Quentyn73 18 ปีที่แล้ว

    that's the drawback of a torsion beam suspension - one wheel hangs in the air uselessly.
    I mean, if you break ot straighten a corner it just falls into place doing its job perfectly, but in the corner itself it is drawn up.
    Most cars are like that w/o wheel detaching from the ground but bearing very little presure on the road, therefore the grip is less.

    Raflo2105 - I have a Clio 182. The 172 is a bit faster to get to 100km/h, however it looks like ordinary Clio. If you get the 182 Cup it looks nice. It is insurance group 17 so a bit expensive. I am 21 have 3 years no claim (touch wood) and my insurance with Churchill is just below a 1k.

    I'm not sure what you're trying to say to me here, I said power makes it go fast, so I think we're agreed here, I don't know what you mean by 'strength'.
    Power also defines your acceleration; through gearing, power provides greater acceleration than torque but I'll not delve into that.
    I found your Alfa on Wiki, 3750cc (3.8L but they named it 3.7L) V6, 328 PS approx. 320 HP and 175 mph top speed.
    I take it that's the block in your piccy then? ;] The manifold makes it look like a straight 6...

    Alfa Romeo's are notorious for breaking down. Italian cars in general have all types of reliability and build quality issues - although in their favour, most look gorgeous.
    French cars are generally ridden with electrical gremlins. If you want something reliable then either go German or Japanese. If you want something with soul then go French or Italian (or dare I say American).
    I personally drive a Toyota Celica GT-Four... so there's clearly no accounting for taste on my part :P

    That's because the 6n Polo doesn't handle well as standard. It will how ever pick up an inside rear wheel if you try hard enough, as will all cars with that suspension layout i.e Mk1-3 Golfs and Mk1-4 Polo's. It's more likely to happen on cars like the 182 due to the chose springs/anti-roll bars. My '93 Polo certainly did it!
    P.S Your 6n would get destroyed by a 182 Clio given the superior grip, handling, braking and 60bhp difference.

    Yep an update, picked up the car (just over 2 weeks ago) and sat nav took me straight through London instead of around :/ But I have noticed this car does get a lot of ''unwanted'' attention, got quite a few chavs saying ''nice car m8 is it fast innit''? But yes the car is very fast (got a vid of me doing 0-60 mph in 5.57 seconds which is up to you if you believe the video evidence) and touch wood everything is okay so far.

    Renault do make really good engines and get more hp out of theirs compared to their competitors, even down to the bog standard versions.
    I had a 1.6 clio 3 and took it to its max speed of 116mph, it even had the torque to pull away from a Ford Focus of the same engine size. The driver of the Focus was suprised. It even gave a Honda Type-S a run for its money. It was great because you cant tell whats under the bonnett and it suprised a few people! A wolf in sheeps clothing!

    My 17-year-old daughter paid £1850 with zero no-claims. Mind you - this was on a 1.2 16V version which is group 3 insurance. Have you tried the 'parents as named drivers' trick? Add both your parents on to the policy as named drivers with you still as the main driver, and for some unfathomable reason the insurance premium is much lower. It's perfectly legal, and not deceptive. They need never drive the car or even live with you.

    Not at all, nothing was standard on them so they handled great (for the 80's). But you did have to be carefull in the wet, with all that power and no weight they slid all over the place

    top gear is great and clarkson is legend but you have to admit, while their all earning mega bucks and driving top notch motors they seem to have no consideration that a lot of people who watch the show can only afford cars like the 182 cup, and to some average joe its a bloody marvelous car!

    I was assuming that you meant 2006 GTI (Volkswagen). If not, then I stand corrected.

    "It's cheap at £14,500"? I saw the '09 Ford Fiesta review that said you can get a comfortably equipped one for £11,000, and he liked it a lot better. How times have changed, I suppose.
