    As a Michigan state guy, it’s clear to see the Spartans we’re Michigan’s wake up call, somehow Wolverines have found a way to rally the rest of the season out, beat up Ohio state, just smashed Iowa to win the Big10 for the first time since 2004, a Golden 2 seed ticket to the college football playoffs, and chance to play for a national championship

    I always love your commentary Steve. Most of the time you sound like you are reading my mind. What I also love is you always have the stats to back up what you say. (20-21 wow!) I never really knew much about Harbaugh until he signed with Michigan. Right from the get go, something seemed off. When interviewed, his answers never seemed real. They were always very simple and lacked a thoughtful source. It was just always cliche. When a coach really cares and has the tools to fix issues that plague their teams, you can tell because they correct problems and they make positive things happen. U-M always seems to play tight in the big games. I just don't think that will change and so, I agree, and I said this last year, it is just a matter of time. The JH experiment just has not panned out. Thanks again, Steve. It is a pleasure listening to a passionate, yet honest and realistic Michigan fan. I mourn along with you.

      I see a lot of parallels with Harbaugh and Frost. My Huskers always seem to just not quite get there. There is a lot of talk that seems hollow and uninspired after losses and you feel like he really doesn't have the answers or even know what's wrong, let alone know how to fix it. I am wondering if we hung on Frostba couple more years if he would just end up being a lower version of Harbaugh. Right now Frost can't even beat the teams he is supposed to beat. But even if he does start to beat a few of them, if he can't beat the big name teams here and there, what is the point of keeping him? I feel your pain!

    Hey Steve, I'm with you as long as you can guarantee that the next coach will be better. Here's the real problem: This isn't a Harbaugh problem, it's a Michigan problem. This has happened under ever UM HC over the past 50 years. When Bo, Gary, and Lloyd, were beating OSU and MSU, they were losing to Minnesota, Illinois, and Purdue. We've got one national championship since the end of WWII. So, this is not gonna change until Michigan changes the following:
    1. Hires a non-Michigan Man to lead the program
    2. Modernizes their offensive philosophy
    3. Lowers their academic standards
    4. Starts recruiting their region better than anyone else in their conference
    5. Finally, redefines the term ELITE to match the definition we fans have. Michigan already thinks they're elite, so why change anything (See their Basketball program).
    And let's be honest, it's never gonna happen! Michigan doesn't care enough to evolve in order to be elite at football. They're happy being a solid program, with elite student athletes. Just not on the field! Only in the classroom.

      Your post is why most of America dislikes Michigan. lower their academic standard? Elite students? Michigan’s standard for football players is no higher than many of the better teams in the country. And many schools have as high of higher standard for students. I got in just on my SAT with no grades submitted. That wouldn’t happen at many top schools.

    • @stevenvargo2440
      @stevenvargo2440 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! That might be one of the dumbest posts ever. The University of Michigan is rated year in and year out one of the most prestigious public universities in America. It's been called the Stanford of the East! It is just a notch below some of America's Ivy League Schools in terms of academic prowess. Next time, do some research before you flap your gums. And btw, it's not arrogance if you can back it up. Michigan is the winningest program in college football history! Its won more Big10 titles than any other Big10 team! They've won 11 National Championships in their history! They've put players in the NFL such as Tom Brady, Charles Woodson, Ty Law, Steve Hutchinson, Dan Dierdorf, and many more Hall of Famers just to name a few! UM dominates the All Big 10 Academic team as well pretty much every year. And, finally, UM has won more games against OSU and MSU historically than they've lost! All of these facts are why regardless of how much the Bucknuts and Sparty would love to be Michigan, they never will be. Even when Michigan loses to OSU and/or MSU, they're still the bigger headline! And they always will be. The rest of America can hate them, but I doubt they even notice. GO BLUE!!!

Biggest reason Sparty ended up winning was a very bad Michigan turnover with about 7 minutes to go in the 4th right after UM got a good defensive stop and set up with great field position by Henning. Every game is the same when you watch Jimmy, staring out on the field, mouth agape, Buddy Holly glasses. Always questioning the officials. Why don't you ever see him coaching up a player during the game?. I watched Saturday's game - OSU fan here - and what a game. Both teams played their asses off. Michigan State was at home and got things rolling in the fourth quarter, and that interception at the end was a great play by the MSU defensive back. Give the Spartans credit, despite all of the holding calls that weren't called. Penn State did the same thing against OSU. Watch the tape. OSU was getting held, tackled even, on several plays and no flags. Typical at all levels today.

      Please post a video of Coach Tucker "coaching up a player" from Saturday's game. Give me one of Nick Saban. Head coaches will yell at a player, make a passing comment, or console a player, but head coaches don't "coach up" players during games. It's too late then. They also don't go out and fill gaps, catch passes, assign blocking changes, keep players healthy, keep players from fumbling, etc. I'm as frustrated as anyone, but the players themselves have already said that they made too many mistakes, and I think they are right. They played a great game and made too many mistakes against a top 5 team, and other than the too much defensive rotation chaos, I thought the coaches had a good game plan.

      @michaelstein7510 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HuddshouseofRockNMetal As an LSU fan, I’d say there’s a small chance Tucker is our next coach. I certainly wouldn’t bet on it. I think the Mel Tucker to LSU smoke is combination of LSU sending feelers out, Tucker’s agent trying to leverage MSU for a raise, and Michigan media desperately wishing Tucker will leave. I don’t think he’s even a Top 5 candidate in our AD’s wishlist. If we hire Tucker, it’s because a bunch of guys higher on the list told us no. Probably including Dave Aranda and Billy Napier.
      And that’s not a slight on Mel Tucker. I’m very impressed with how quickly he’s turned around Michigan State, and I certainly wouldn’t be upset if LSU ends up hiring him. He’d probably compete for national championships here.
      But I don’t think people outside of Baton Rouge understand how much of a dumpster fire LSU football is right now. Coach O has completely cratered the program since the Clemson game. We didn’t have enough healthy scholarship players to practice last week. The locker room and team culture is completely broken. The morale of the fanbase is the lowest it’s been since 1999. The next coach will have to do almost a complete rebuild, both of culture and talent.
      This next hire is the most important hire LSU has made since Saban. With Texas and OU joining the SEC and Saban retiring at some point in the next 5-10 years, the next coach will either embed us in mediocrity or rebuild a powerhouse program capable of being a dynasty. Our AD has to get the hire correct, and I don’t think he’ll take a chance on a guy like Tucker with a small sample size as head coach. He’ll shoot for a big fish, like he has with all his hires, and settle for a safe option if he can’t land one.

    As crazy as this sounds, this is the best this team has looked since 2016. And even crazier, I’m not all that upset at this game. I didn’t think this team could look as good as they did, and they surpassed my expectations for this game. I’m hard on Harbaugh, always will be. But if this team plays as well as they did last week against OSU, we have a shot. If he looses that, then he’s a goner because what this game showed me is that we 100% have the talent to play with anyone.

    My late father was a UM All-American and asst. coach at Virgina. He and Bo used to chat a little during Spring paractice. Here is Bo's record. Bo was nota fottball god: he lst a few big games too. From Wikipedia: In his 21 seasons as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Schembechler's teams amassed a record of 194-48-5 and won or shared 13 Big Ten Conference titles. Though his Michigan teams never won a national championship, in all but one season they finished ranked, and 16 times they placed in the final top ten of both major polls. Despite Schembechler's success during the regular season, he was less successful in bowl games. His overall record was 5-12, which includes a 2-8 record in the Rose Bowl. The Wolverines lost the 1970 Rose Bowl, their first bowl game under Schembechler, while he was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack on the previous day.[6] Michigan went on to lose their next six bowl games before winning five of the last ten they played under Schembechler.

    How big was the call back of the fumble? Not just the 4pts, but actually it would likely affect MSU going for 2 after their TDs.
    If Michigan goes into half up 27-14 and everything is the same with possessions in the second half. Michigan would go up 34-14, MSU likely does not go for 2 on their next two touchdowns, because they are down 20, not 16. Then it would be 34-28 roughly when Michigan would kick a field goal to go up 37-28, forcing MSU to now try an onside after their next TD.

John Cooper won a Rose Bowl, would consistently beat other really good teams and compete, but could not beat Michigan. He got 13 years WITH said Rose Bowl win.
