So funny, I stumbled on this sound just a day before your post. I have built in reverb on my B3. I went to just drawbar 4 with percussion on and I was like wow that’s kinda like an electric piano and started playing your “expensive” sus2 piano lick from a few posts prior.
I was trying this setting yesterday on B3-X (software emulation) but without the drawbars.. pretty nice sound.. i added a tube screamer for more volume & some girth, and then a spring reverb.. can't wait to try with the drawbar too..
Pipe organs are able to simulate many instruments, especially wind instruments; stringed instruments were more difficult but also attempted. Theatre organs added percussion, and much more, including brand new pipe sounds, vibrato, and more Long before the invention of the Hammond / tonewheel organ. 😎
Thanks very much Mike ! This is what I was lookin’ for, for some songs where they use this. I tried different settings for some songs. Now I only hope that my L-100 comes close, Because it has a different percussion as a B3. 😊 Thanks anyway 👍🏼
I’ve never done this with slow percussion, but with percussion on fast it gives somewhat of a marimba quality, even without drawbars. There’s a background part in the verses of Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes where it does this.
Hey, I finally tried it. I have to say it is a weird feeling. For a second you feel like your playing a piano and the the next you don't. Cool trick! I gonna definitely use it a bit. Keep the videos coming!👍
What a great track!! Haven’t heard that one before. It sounds similar. Maybe just toe percussion w no drawbars pulled out. That’s what I hear anyway…… thanks for introducing me to this. Very cool 🎹🎹🙏🙏
Well duh. Pointless comment since the title of the video tells you it will show you how to make a Hammond sound like a piano, not that a Hammond is a piano.
Hammond made many drawbar settings. They all had different names. Tuba, Flute, Piano, Trombone. Yes they all sound like variations of an organ. No it is not literal ;) but I will get my ears checked 😂

Hahaha. Amazing!! Such an expressive instrument ❤️. Have a great day 🙏🙏🤟🤟
Riders on the Storm!!! Sounds beautiful on that organ
Thanks so much 🙏🙏

Very cool! That software is incredible. Amazing how good it sounds!!
Look up Novachord which essentially is a polyphonic synthesizer by Hammond from late 30’s. It’s right down the alley of this post
I am familiar with them. We have two here in town at the National Music Centre!! Very cool!!

Very true! Thanks 🙏
Thank you Mike. I'm gonna put this one the the tool box. Can't wait to try this when I get home today!
Awesome have fun w it!!
OMG Mike! I've heard about this for years and thought it was urban legend. Got to try this right now on B3 and XK5! Many thanks!
It’s a cool trick!! Enjoy 🎹🎹🤟🤟

It was literally yesterday I was stuck with my Hammond XK-5 wishing there was a way to get a pinao sound!!
This is so useful!!
Thank you!
Glad you like! 🎹🙏

Sweet!! Glad it worked!!!!
This is great info!
Thanks for the comment and for
Checking it out!
Got to try on my Mojo, thanks
Sweet!! 🎹🙏
Very cool!
😎😎🎹🎹
An underwater piano from outer space!
lol. GREAT description!
Back before synths I was always so frustrated trying to use those sexy gentle setting and fight for volume against the drums and guitars.
I bet!!
even better on a stock 55 b3 or 58 with percussion drop mod 😎👍

keep the tradition alive always 👍
Absolutely!!

Even with the decay on full length in my Mojo editor, my Mojo61 can't decay percussion long enough to get this effect :(
Add reverb!! It might extend it :)
Does Diana Ross' "My Old Piano" feature this trick? There's a prominent piano/percussion sound that I could never figure out.

@@UniverseofKeys Got to give Nile Rodgers credit. He sure can craft a song.
True Dat!
So a drawbar means sustain and no drawbar means much less sustain?
You can definitely look at it that way :)
Danke!
🙏🙏🎹🎹
Thank you for the tip!!
🎹❤️🤩
🎹🎹❤️❤️
Still produces sine waves which a piano doesn‘t. And it‘s paraphonic whereas a piano is fully polyphonic.
Can't believe this drawbar setting didn't turn the tone wheels into strings

Man- if you think that sounds like a piano - - - You need to get an EAR TUNE-UP ......

Any reasonable musician understands that this is an approximation, similar to pipe organ settings.
@@steveccase& @Universeof Keys I have a Hammond Spinet EX-800E that has a "Piano" setting and it Sounds Just Like A Piano. 🎹
Nice sound, but it does not "actually sound like a piano", still is clearly an organ.
It was easy to deduce that he was approximating something; we know there is no hidden piano-sample button.
No shit Sherlock it's an organ
If you go back and listen he says electric piano. Here he's doing a Fender Rhodes piano like Riders..
