AS usual, you have made the classical brain connect more dots on the road to playing by ear and chords. THANK YOU!!

As a once prog rock/jazz wannabe organist I note that 80 percent of my professional playing gigs involved music more along the lines of Americana/roots/country/blues gigs. It is concepts and techniques such as the ones that your lay out here that helped me to get a good number of gigs. You always do a great job of presenting useful information. Listen up kids - this is must-know stuff. 😊

Love this, thanks! Stuff I've known and done for 50 years. But OMG I noticed I don't really ever think to do the sus2 in 1st inversion! Thanks for pointing out a blind spot.

Great video Mike! It's like you were reading my mind. :). I have been listening to Jone Prine's "Angel from Montgomery" quite a bit lately, due to the organ playing, piano, and of course the amazing storytelling lyrics.

Many thanks Mike! This subject is something I've struggled with for years. How to blend in with the texture of a 12 string accoustic ballad song without overpowering.
I'm glad to see you enjoying your chop!

Also, folks might want to note that the C major pentatonic (as shown) has the same notes as the A minor pentatonic that we know from blues & rock; they're just differently stressed in licks. And to finish off, in many cases while you want to camp out on the major pentatonic, you can often slide for a moment into the blues scale (e.g, C minor pentatonic plus flat fifth) and slip a blues lick in. That's acceptable in country today, with country mainstream having adopted a lot from other genres (thanks especially to Willie Nelson.) But, maybe not when you're doing an authentic Ralph Stanley cover.

I know you’re an Ian Mcglagan fan, so if you ever get 5 minutes it would be really cool if you could do a video on Happy Boys Happy by the Small Faces.
It’s quite simple, and only 4 chords, but there’s some detail I just cant pick out.

One of the great things about this is, it's so easy that only a little practice will go a long way. This is one of the tools at the heart of a simple basic toolkit, where just a few tools, applied well (WHILE LISTENING TO THE REST OF THE BAND!), can make a player with limited technical skills sound like a really good player.

@@UniverseofKeys Yeah maybe it is basic, but some of us are only on salad HA HA. Another great lesson. It really helps to join the dots and get these techniques down having them explained thoroughly and in context. Like others have said, I feel like my playing has improved so much by putting together everything you are kindly sharing with us. Thanks a bunch
