I have yet to speak to anyone who actually rates the Caesar in their top ten or even top twenty battlemechs. It is an odd looking 'mech sure but certainly not a bad one.
Hello CR. Although a good design, especially the Gertrude variant, the Mech carries too many ER Medium Lasers to be efficient. A way to alter this is dead simple. Move the Gauss ammo to the legs and free up space in the Left Torso. Removing the ER Medium in the Right Torso gives the mass needed to add another DSHS in the Left Torso. Bringing the Mech's total up to 17, for 34 heat sinking. An 'alpha strike' and walking give a heat burden of 51. But, rarely will a Pilot use the ER PPC at close range, or the Gauss. This brings the total generated heat down to a manageable 35. So, walking and only firing the Mech's ER Medium Lasers ends up with 2 points of heat buildup. As said, Manageable. The Pilot of this Mech, at close ranges, might even dispense with the 7th ER Medium, resulting in a heat buildup that can easily handle movement and the firing of the remaining 6 ER Medium Lasers. In this case, even the Gauss Rifle can fire without problems, and the Mech can even run, without exceeding Heat Sinking parameters.
The Caesar was a popular mech back in the day. Good speed and armor, energy package removed ammo problems, gauss rifle hit hard. The biggest problem I can remember was the art...but that was a problem for a lot of mechs then.

The Caesar is like one of the more forgettable Cold War-era jet fighters - it may be solid and effective, but without a long history or peculiar niche, it just won't stand out among all its many contemporaries.
Yeah it isn't the prettiest 'mech out there and certainly better options. I always like to throw them in as out of the ordinary enemies for players or something unique for an NPC.

Art is quite rare for the Caesar as well. You can tell which 'mechs are more popular in the office when they get more use in art for other books.

True. Solidly built, good build but no real fluff to get people invested in it. Still it makes a for a good surprise opponent to catch people out.
