this is interesting because magnetic force decays at 1/distance squared while spring force increases at 1/d in conjunction with the spring constant k. So this pedal's tension is a quadratic function of distance rather than a linear one like spring based pedals.

I would be super curious how fast you could push them vs a spring.
I can see it maybe bottoming out on the magnet as you get towards super fast. But it looks like with the support of the middle magnet in the foot board you might be able to get away with it.
As for service life, I can see these way outlasting a spring without losing performance.
How was the effort per best? Kinda the same? I guess that depends how you tune them right?

@@totenkult if you prefer a long board pedal generally you'll def like the long board version better. It pretty much makes a similar difference as any other pedal long board vs short board. But really for me it's increased surface area on the pedal board that you have to work with especially if you dont have your foot up all the way on the board usually. Like a more controlled leverage to the beater. I feel it's those things.

@@totenkult and if you mean the feel of the magnets, in that sense, i personally feel the magnet is superior to the spring in most ways. The way the tension is a much less linear curve than the spring, like most of the resistance is summed when the magnets are close to each other. So the pedal isnt really working against your foot until it really needs to. I feel instant energy efficiency when playing.

On the drumnetics site they display the short pedals and the long board doubles with heel stands on the. I wonder if they sent you an early production prototype. they show the long board from several angles and they all have a heel stand other than one at the bottom of the long board page.

"Permanent" magnets, including the neodymium ones used in these pedals, should not experience any appreciable degradation before you and your children have passed away. Most claims I'm seeing online say less than 1% over 10 years, all the way to less than 3% over 100 years.
The most important factor is how you handle them. If you beat on a magnet with a hammer, or get it very very hot, yeah it'll lose some of or all of its magnetism, but in any conditions your feet can survive in, they should be fine.
