- Two common alternatives to the traditional fireplace that have been gaining favor with consumers ready for a simpler installation, lower maintenance and ease of use are the ethanol and gel-fueled fireplaces. If you’re considering purchasing one, this video describes everything you need to know.

So, which is it?
The flame doesn't need a chimney because its not gonna smoke up your home but you'll need to let fresh air in because it essentially replaces oxygen with Co2 like any flame would.
He's trying to say that you won't get your home dirty but the air you'll breath is of lesser quality.
He said no “venting” needed. He did not say no ventilation needed. Every fire needs ventilation. Most fires need venting: a chimney or flu. This type of fire does not. Please listen, then think before posting

We bought one of the table top versions as an emergency heat backup in the case of a blackout as we had ducted gas heating that relied on electricity for the fans to blow the heat around the house so would not work in the case of a blackout. For this purpose it worked really well but though it had glass screens around it I would not recommend using them with children as the flame was quite erratic and would frequently throw itself over or between the glass walls, flames are near invisible unless it was dark and a very hot, the glass itself would also become hot. I think here in Australia they were also recalled after we bought ours due to poor manufacturing standards of the cheaper models and I would think the risk to children. I would recommend them in some circumstances but if you have an option of a enclosed wood heater, I would pick the wood heater any time of the week, its a very nice, I suggest unparalleled form of radiant heating, for me though expensive to install and like here wood isnt exactly cheap you cant beat the feel to your body and ambience of an efficient wood heater.
+MaZEEZaM I agree with the heat quality of wood (I heat my home with it)...trouble with wood is: ash, hole in your roof (flue), dust, mess, hauling wood, emissions...ethanol can be a good alternative which addresses many of these shortcomings...trade-offs with everything , right?

Be careful while refuling Ethanol Fireplaces. Everything has to have become cold before refueling.

The ethanol fireplace designs are good and environment friendly, ethanol being in abundance in terms of formulation, ingredients, are the best options in these times of pandemic, keeping the house full of warmth that keeps viruses away, the way our grand father and grandmother taught us inside or outside the house backyard. @@mrdobalina3451 the viruses hated warmth, the way heatened environment shall always make viruses away Mr.dobalina. It is effective in many countries, that have fireplace, it keeps the allergens and rhinitis away and so as dust mites and many respiratory illnesses due to foreign matter.
$300 at home depot includes Firefox, mantel, and logs...fuel sold separately where are you getting yoour prices from...

Glad hes an architect and not an engineer....it produces about the same CO2 as two candles....ever hear of someone dying from that? Not likely....CO2 is not the main problem ...take care in not refueling when on or hot, dont get it on you especially the gel (napalm like) and heat transference (conductive principal) needs to be mitigated through the process of proper insulation like ceramic/porcelain or other things( rock wool) for safety but overall you should be fine...have on myself and single issue.
