    These videos are great, Particularly these home network demos. There doesn't seem to be much online for the uk side of things. Especially youtube so thanks for the hot info!
    I'm planning running conduit and trunking around the home, so after I've Renovated and have recouped some cash, I can start pulling the cables for this at a later point.
    Do you know of any regs or rules for conduit or colour coding for low voltage cables in the uk?
    Again thank you, seriously very informative.

      Different phones systems used to utilise up to six wires most four and now just two but this rarely required nowadays. But you can always find that one old system somewhere. Using the spares and pins 1 and 6 can be helpful sometimes

    Hi, great video, thanks. What are the Rj45 to Rj45 splitters you're using for your phones called? Had a look on your shop for them but couldn't find them.

    Another awesome video. I was just wondering how was the router in your house, connected to the phone line cause the main line was no where near the router.

      +Lee Jones Hi Lee, I am with Virginmedia so it runs down a coax type cable, so I connected up the incoming NTL (Virginmedia) box by the phone line via a CT100 type cable that runs to under the stairs.
      Cheers Vince

    Hey Vince, great videos mate, really taught me the details of what I'm about to attempt to deal with.
    I've moved into a new build that has been wired up with Cat5e/Cat6 to provide future support as a 'smart home'. From what I've learnt, I'm not sure its been done in the best way, and I'd like to know the best method for approaching this. Essentially, the '2nd fix' was not done and no cables (except the phone sockets) have been terminated. We're on BT Infinity, and the master socket/location is in the hall fitted with the Openreach master socket 5C. Thats currently where my Router sits (BT smart home hub/6). The master socket then feeds/extends (via cat5e in the walls) to the next phone socket in the kitchen, which then daisy chains onto the next phone socket in the lounge, then daisy chains onto the next phone socket in the spare room.... and so on. Eventually the last section of cat5e cable finishes in the loft room, also where all other cables (Cat6 x12, coaxials x 10 & speaker wire x 8) come to. The thing is, the cable marked 'BT MASTER' has essentially been daisy chained about 5 times (I haven't counted exactly how many right now) feeding phone sockets on its journey. So I'm not keen on moving my router to the end of that!!? To be honest, I dont really need the phone sockets/plugs throughout the house, so I was considering the only way to get the data straight to the loft room, was to terminate all these cables with RJ45s (using all 4 pairs, as opposed to 2 & 5 as it is now) and use couplers behind blank faceplates to feed a switch, which would then feed the rest of the house. But man..... this surely could be a concern for quality of the signal?? Unless I'm missing something.... I just dont know if its been wired up correctly...
    Sorry for the long details, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

    great video but my wife will kill me with all those cables lol. I have the main router in the hall and a homeplug to the living room and a cheap TPlink router used as a switch for laptop, skyhd box etc and extra wifi, works really well, I have laptop hooked to tv and used as monitor for streaming etc, I have better speeds via the second router on wifi than the main router,

    Could you make a video on how you run your Ethernet cables to the cupboard and how you mounted your faceplates to the skirting board in the living room

    when you run your phone lines through your patch panel do you connect all 8 wires or just the 3 for the phones? thanks

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wire up all 8 on the patch panel so the port can be used for voice or data. But if I was making a phone lead to go into the patch panel then I would just connect the middle 2 wires on the RJ45 (pins 4 and 5 the blue pair) and then use a PBX RJ45 to BT socket dongle on the other end to ensure that all phones will ring.

    hi vince - great videos, thanks. wondering whether to install cat5e or cat 6. is cat 6 that much better, really?

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Linea Ceramics Hi, it won't make any difference at the moment but in the future you may see the benefit so if you are taking the trouble to install a network it is probably worth the extra money to install cat6.

      Linea Ceramics cat6 has better and longer range signal compared to cat5/cat5e.
