Thanks for this video, (I'm a Vince as well!) I now see why the Openreach 'engineer' who came to install my PlusNet line wouldn't connect up my phone extentions! Because I've got a problem on my phone line now with no dial tone, I unclipped the front off the Openreach NTE5C Master socket to connect a corded phone to the test socket, but still no dial tone, so I'll be getting in touch with PlusNet about it. BUT!! I now see that the camlock connector for fitting an extension cable is missing, either from 'new' or was broken when installing, ..... so that's why he wouldn't do it! Thank you Openreach, I actually paid extra for this service! 😒
You are a star. Our built in extension was disconnected when a new socket was put in changing Broadband suppliers and I've been making do. 5 mins after your video came up on a search and I have all my phones working again. You are amazing!
Excellent video, had done all this & still not working, luckily I watched until the end when you told me the faceplate is part of the circuit. Put it back in & Luvvly Jubbly every one's a winner !!! 👍👍👍
Thank you. My BT engineer didn't know the faceplate had to be inserted for the extension to work correctly. I've just finished his job thanks to you. Unbelievable.
Thanks! My faceplate got partially destroyed by lightning last week, and I was told by plusnet I could use the master socket without the faceplate. He didn't mention that the extension wouldn't work if I did that!! That explains why my downstairs phone now says " no line ". I've ordered a new master socket, and hope it'll all work perfectly once it's all put back together :)
Thank you very much. Your explanation is illustrated so simply, sure anyone can do it. My only problem was running cables from my hallway main socket to the kitchen.
Thank you! BT master socket NC5 in the back bedroom and was wanting phone and broadband in the living room. I used CW1308 and I just used a MK Logic Plus telephone slave socket. Works great no problems. :) And now happily have the phone and broadband router in the living room. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for this video we had an issue with an outside bell not working but this was only after the BT engineer had installed a new 5C socket on review the poor sod had confused five with three and switch them around
Hiya Vince.... I've tried to add two dect Panasonic phones to our master base. We already have 4 phones total .The only connection /phone box has a plug in for the phone and a hub for the computer router. The existing master base does not seem to connect to more than 4 phones so Panasonic might be wrong when they say ours should work 6 dect phones. I got a preowned identical 4 phone system which has 4 phones with it. Would the additional preowned master plug into the extension if I fitted one? then of course we could use 2 more phones total registered to the additional base?
If you can't register the 2 additional handsets on the existing system then I think the easiest option is to plug in a cheap double adaptor into the existing phone socket. Then place the pre owned base station there. I know you might not want 2 base stations next to each other but if you don't care then it should work. You won't be able to use things like the intercom between the 2 systems as they are not linked together. If you want to run an extension to a different room and place the base station there then you can also do this making sure that it is filtered (if needed)👍
@@Mymatevince Hiya Vince thanks so much for the reply. I've done just that and both work..... did you see a chap has 5 sets of Dect phone on one line!!!!! It does work great. I can move one of our original set outside so if the wife needs to give me a shout then one of the original set can be communicated with. The loading on the line is different re the dect phones I see but the info seems a bit thin on the ground? best wishes mick
So if you want to put 2 extensions in, you have to hold 6 small cables into the 3 holes at the same time as you push down? Seems very fiddly compared to the NTE5A.
Hi vince. Great videos. I need to wire an extension bell ringer in my workshop. It’s an old bt one that has only 2 wires (blue and brown) it used to work fine but after someone from bt changed our master socket it was disconnected and no longer works. Can I just put the two wires somewhere to get it going again?
Thanks for details .. can I connect the main cable from outside ( six colours cable) old one To small BT point( you call it extension ) directly or has to be big point ( main )
Hi Vince. Really well explained. Thanks. Followed your instructions to the letter but I did not end up with the results I wanted! I am using cat5e cabling throughout my house to distribute data and the last thing I wanted to do is move my BT wifi router to a cupboard plugged into an extension socket, so that I can connect it to my Gigabit network switch. I have done this before in a previous house and it all worked fine. I have tried using the cat5e cabling built in to the walls and the phone says "No" at the extension socket end yet it all works perfectly when tested - as you suggest plugged directly into the BT NTE 5C Master socket with the faceplate removed. I have tried troubleshooting one thing at a time by trying a different brand of extension socket on the same hard wiring, no joy, the second brand of extension socket on some different loose wiring, no joy, and I have even continuity tested the loose wiring to check there are no breaks over the 7 M length - all OK. It seems to point to the connection block on the Master Socket being at fault. How likely is this? UPDATE 21/9/21. I eventually got the system to work. The connections at the Master Socket were where the issue laid. All sorted now.
@Paul Jameson Thanks for your reply Paul but I did sort it out a few days after my original post - it was an issue with the connections at the Master Socket. System working fine now.
Hi Paul, I think some of the earlier NTE5C needed a spacer to fit onto the dry lining boxes as they fouled at the top, but I believe the later ones do fit. NTE5A definitely fit but I am not 100% sure about the NTE5c. I haven't got a dry lining box to hand to check (sorry) Thanks.
Hi Vince instead of taking an extension off a BT VDSL mk4 master socket can i run the drop cable into a BT77A junction box (as it is mid point of the house) and then run a cat 5 e (blue white/blue) to the BT VDSL mk4 (A+B) and then run a second cat 5 e cable from the BT77A junction box to a new extension socket? If yes which two colours should i take from the BT77A Junction box to the new extension socket? Many Thanks and great videos...Mike
how do I install a broadband extension to a 5c mk4? you have a video for the phone extension but not broadband, do I have to replace the plate with another model?
Brilliant videos they are very very detailed makes it easier for someone lime myself to understand sort of lol but I'm wondering if this is the same process if the extension wires already in the wall from a socket in the living room as my master sockets right beside the front door 😁
I have now this new Master socket but it looks to me like all extension sockets are telephone only. Am I right or have I done something wrong when connecting the new Master socket?
Hi will adding a extension slow down the vdsl internet speed. When I wire my extension it slows down 50%. It is an extension from downstairs to upstairs. When I plug router to test socket the speed goes back to normal. The extension wire is the cheap flat type. Thanks
Hi, great videos btw Vince, very handy indeed. Anyway I have a BT 5C Mk4 master socket with 2 openings at the front (one for a phone and another for a router). If I want to add an extension to another Phone point (only for a phone), is it the same process as described in this vid ? Thanks
will you do a video using two 5C Faceplates with two MK4 front covers 1 as main and 1 as extension has my router is upstairs but would love this to use rj45 on front socket upstairs
(MK4 VDSL faceplate plugged into the NTE5c the socket has two sockets side by side adsl and phone) open reach has just been and replaced the master socket face plate as was faulty now i have phone and internet working fine now so a question, i have added a extension into the front camlock 235 socket so i can run a extension into my spare hobby room (about 12 meters) i have connected the extension socket to the same numbers and matched wire colours etc phone works fine but i wanted too add my router onto this socket too using a adsl filter but for some reason i have no adsl ligh come on the router any idea of a fix.
You need to hardwire the wires onto the A and B terminals on the back of the VDSL mk4 faceplate (not the NTE5c backplate) and then you can fit the microfilter to move the router. Use a pair of wires for the signal so the blue pair.
Will this extension allow me to run a router from it or just a phone? I also have two main sockets coming into the house one in the bedroom that works that is were I had it installed and one master socket in the living room thats old and the line doesnt work , can I use the method above to connect the two, any answers would be great , kind regards
brilliant , thank you, I had an engineer convert my BT master socket to the living room where the router is. rendered the original one unusable. Is it possible to change that to an extension please and thanks again.
Normally the wires are Blue/White (Blue with white tracer), Orange/white (Orange with white tracer) and White/Blue (White with Blue tracer). The small colours are called tracers.
Pin 3 is used to carry the ring signal but is known to cause issues with broadband. I personally don't recommend using it as all modern digital phones never needed it.
ive got a problem, i have a master the incomer from the bt side is connected to a and b screw terminals, i then have my cable connected to 2 and 5 in the master running to a slave which has the 2 and 5 connected in, i plug my phone in and it doesn't register phone keeps saying check line???
Hi Mate, Your videos are great. Just got a question, can I use a separate 5C as extension socket by wiring from the front camlock of the main 5c into the A & B the extension 5c? Thanks!
I hope someone can help me. I've had BT OpenReach Engineer come and upgrade my Master Socket with NTE5C. However its causing issues with my extension socket in the room upstairs. If i connect my router to this socket then broadband does not work anymore however if i connect it to Master Socket downstairs the broadband works fine. Any ideas why this is and how can i get it resolved.
broadband runs better of the main nte so running an extension and plugging your broadband into the extension could slow your broadband down blah blah ..... whack the nte plate and box put extension in place of it crimp it straight through the extension wire and relocate the main nte to where you wish job done aha

great stile.Very happy.
Great video, thank you. Did you make a video explaining how to route the extension cable from the back 3:55 - if so please could you post a link?
ditto...
Thank you very much, a very detailed video and EXTREMELY useful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very well and clearly explained. Congratulations! Ever considered a career in teaching?
Have to say this was exceptional tutoring thank you.
I learned a valuable lesson today and thank you for your time!

Is the extension for phone only or does this provide data too?

Thanks a million, and would add that a credit card works as a wire pusher if you have limited options.
Hi thanks for very informative guide. Can you connect two extension sockets?
Hello Vince
Is the cat 6 cable an upgrade on the cat5e and cw1308 you mention?
Thanks
I wish you would make a video showing how to wire a double socket extension on to an nte5c mk4 so that both vdsl and phone work on the extension.
As everyone said clearly explained, should really become a teacher :D

Can you wire extentions cables from 5C MK Master Socket if the master has two seperate ASDL for modem and another for telephone pluging?
@Paul Jameson Will follow the instructions. Greatly appreciated. Thanks.
whats the maximum distance i can run a extension using cat 6 from a Master 5c socket

Hi Mate,
Your videos are great. Just got a question, can I use a separate 5C as extension socket by wiring from the front camlock of the main 5c into the A & B the extension 5c?
Thanks!
Yes it will work fine but it may confuse future engineers or homeowners as they will wonder why there are 2 master sockets on the one telephone line.
Thank you Mate.
Have got a wire with two extensions .how to connect wire to ont is a problem..
cable ive got is rj11 phone plug snipped wires are green white yellow brown i havnt no idea what wire connects

How we open this socket
I'm told the 'new' BT colours of blue, orange, brown and green are actually the 'old' GPO colours of yesteryear! A case of history repeating!
Hi, yes that is correct :-)
