Dude thank you so much for this review and breakdown. You just save me a TON of money. I was just about to cable my headphone listening station with a complete set of big sir cable. I am switching back to my original plan of a set of copper shielded mogami rca cables at less than half the price.
    Update:
I just calculated you saved me 500$!!

Step 1: Learn to solder. Not hard, plenty of tutorials available, a useful skill in general. Do the same learning with how to make audio cables.
Step 2: get cable by the meter and plugs from your biggest local pro audio dealer. They have the best deals because they sell in big volumes, and little to no bullshit. 2-3 moneys per meter for cable and the same for plugs each, from reputable brands, that's more than good enough. Choose OFC copper cable, high flex, and make sure the diameter fits into the plugs you chose.
Step 3: make yourself some nice cables from the materials. Just dual mono, and bundle them in pairs using heat shrink tube.
Voilà, you just made yourself great quality cables for 10-20 moneys per stereo pair, at the exact length you want, from good quality materials and proper construction that'll last 20 years. You also learned a simple, but valuable skill that'll serve you well forever and save you tons of money.
All the music you're listening to has run through dozens of meters worth of exactly that kind of cable during production. The studios and musicians know what they're doing, and what makes a difference and what doesn't. If you don't, learn from the pros, and not from snake oil dealers!
Like Audioquest. The construction shown in this video is SHODDY at best. Every experienced amateur can do MUCH better. And they're asking good money for it. Don't waste yours.

The only real difference, you skimmed over it, is the copper wire itself. It's how the copper conductors are made. So without the proper testing device for this purpose there is no way to know for sure. Sad however the BS in most cables...

I dont know, it seems this is a demolition video. I have different brands of cables from audioquest, atlas, tributaries, etc. all are working fine for some years now. Why not compare these with other brands in construction because i know atlas also uses cold welds in their products too.
Statement saying they are all copper is just not right. Can you, by your naked eye tell the difference in purity of the copper? The composite of each?
Be cautious with people like this in the internet, try cables by yourself before judging. Its not hard to distinguish sound signatures between cables.

I had Evergreen audio cable, and was very unsatisfy with the sound. As I was able to compare it with optical out I hear about 2 dB quiter output. Than I change it for Furutech cable and improvement wor tremendous! Sound output level is now equal to the one from optical connection. Out of couriosity I open the cable as well and was realy dissaponted. That tiny copper wire, tiny aluminum shielding…but hey, that is 50 bucks audio cable! And is cheaper made than some few bucks audio cables!

Thieves. That's all I can say. I see what you mean by the "new Monster Cable". I have some of their earliest model interconnects that were quite good, but they spiraled downward like a good flush.
I wonder if Audioquest is similar, if perhaps their early cables were real until they had name recognition, like Monster.

When I started looking for cables that deliver sound where you can really hear the difference, I had no idea which cable was good. After I have had to borrow a lot of cables from hifi shops to listen at home, it was my ear that said that a certain cable played correctly and gave me musical joy. In my room I had cables from many European manufacturers also from the USA. The cable that stuck out in my ears was the Audioquest. That's how I started noticing that cable. I slowly over a 4 year period upgraded all the cables from power, signal analog rca, optical, digital coax etc. and each time I have listened to many cables but the choice has fallen on Audioquest. So now in hindsight I have all the cables from them and I'm not a fan or an expert but it was my ear that decided it. My recommendation is to listen and decide for yourself.

And what happened to you and you ears is called "brand fan" or "brand follower" and it's very subjective feeling and emotion. It has nothing to do with objective facts.
We all have that. Personaly I'm fan of Adidas. No matter I tryed Nike or Puma, I always felt Adidas is best for me. I know this is subjective feel, I don't have nothing against it because it makes me feel good, but I'm also intelligent enought to realise that has niothing to do with objective and measurable facts. Puma and Nike are great brands with great products. Actually, my kids like Nike only.
I hope you see where I'm going. That happend to you with cables.
P.S. I have all QED cables for same reasons 😎 except power cables that are Oehlbach. Again, brand follower!

Yes that is true, but, it seems to me that entry level AQ cables that costs few hundred buks are soo low low entry level quality - you have to start (and you probably talk about that level) with mid level cables, and then you have high quality cables. I also opened my AQ Tower RCA cable, as I was disappointed with sound. ... and when you open it and see that poor quality, and quantity (wire is less than 1mm thick), I'm totally out of AQ fun club!

The higher models have PSC (perfect surface copper) which supposedly gives a smoother more transparent sound. The surface of the copper is supposedly smoother and uncontaminated. Oyaide state that they also use this type of copper in their cables. Hifi symphony has not actually tested the cables to see if they all have exactly the same copper and also does not mention if he has listened to all of them and compared the sound quality. I think AQ cables are far to expensive, and have no intention of defending them for that or anything else. But this is a useless and irrelevant "test". Absolutely no science behind it, and marginal knowledge won't help anyone. There are actually many serious people who look at cables with a critical eye here on YT, and they have actual measurements and results to refer to! Plus knowledge of the different types and qualities of the individual types of leads and dialectics. And there will immediately be "more meat on the bone", and more we can actually learn something from! And everyone can see that the break is not in the cold weld, but a millimeter or two away. You can also see the little stump sticking out of the weld, it is broken due to rough handling.
Anyway and anyhow, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I have full respect for this man who absolutely has every right to have his own opinions, and ofcourse do whatever he want to. And I'm shure he's full of knowledge in a lot of other areas!! 🙂✌

An excellent insight into the construction of these cables. I often wonder how huge increases in cost are determined between one cable and another when it’s usually the wrapping or shielding in prettier colours together with marketing terminology is all I can see. How much more effective one cable is over another, I’m sure is exaggerated. I don’t want to be caught up in wanting the next cable in a progressively expensive quest for the holy grail of sound. It’s such a nonsense. Thank you for the vid.

As a skeptic, I believe cables only make a difference under certain circumstances, I believe many or all manufacturers will sell the consumer their marketing, to manipulate your head and wallet.
Cable manufacturers make up prices as they go under marketing techniques, and sell the consumer what ever they want to make up, there's no proof in there claims and prices to match what they are selling. How do you say a cable is twenty thousand dollars and justify your claims to value in cost.
I buy all my audioquest cables through Aliexpress yes I know there knock-offs, but they are using premium materials and the quality is spot on to the original and I save a shit ton of money and they all sound excellent.

    • @052RC
      @052RC หลายเดือนก่อน

The only problem your method, and skeptics in general, is you guys have to guess about everything. And if that's what works for you, its perfectly fine. You're allowed to do things however you like. The reason I'm commenting is your post seems to be very well though out, and you put in a certain amount of effort to make a good choice. So, here's my question. Why not do some real science? This debate has been going on for close to 50 years now, and up until today, no one in the skeptic community has ever done a single test that meets, or even comes close, to producing scientific results that would be considered valid on any cable ever made.
I just find it odd. I understand why people are skeptical. You should be. To spend a lot of money on something without first verifying if there's a difference worth paying for, is just plain stupid. I've always thought that if anyone should be doing some real testing, it would be the skeptic community, and it turns out to be the opposite.

I still have their speaker cables bought at the same time that are okay. These days I buy Crutchfield or Amazon cables and they work just fine for a lot less money. I'm not playing that game.

Around the time they started putting batteries on their cables they went down hill and price went up.
They started with good cables before then, like Midnight. Quartz, Clear, Jade etc.

Your just as well off with cheap dollar store RCA cables. No sound difference than theses expensive ones. Also they will last as long or longer. I have some cheap ones that are over 40 years old and still work with no issue. No sound difference between them and newer ones. Yours look nicer but that is all. Save your money and buy some other speakers instead for a variety in sound.

Yes, AQ is now nothing but snake oli sellers. All of their cables use generic cables but then the just rap them in nice looking coat. But its same in almost all of the cable makers, they do not make the actual cables them self and they are ordered from china etc who ever sels them cheapest.
That why you can find "copycats" cheap from china cos they are made in same factory anyway :D
Just like any sneakers, T shirts etc. Same factory sells from same production line to anynone who are willing to pay. You can by jeans too. "Original" made in thailand sells 100% same jeans for 70% less with different branding. This goes in electronics too.

I once loved Evergreens until over and over they went bad right where you say that crimp is located. There are other reasonable cables that perform better in my opinion, I'm done with Audioquest interconnects. Now, their semi solid concentric X2 speaker cable is a winner.

  • @beagle7622
    @beagle7622 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I know speaker cables make a difference. In my case a substantial difference, not all good. The downside I was picking up feedback much more than before . I have done blind tests with an 200 dollar interconnect & a 20 dollar one. I honestly couldn’t pick a difference. There was but was it better. I don’t know.

I recently compared Big sur and Yosemite, by listening not by stripping them off and checking wire colors. According to AQ website, they both use PSC+ conductor which is AQ's best copper. But they have difference insulations and terminations. Yosemite uses FEP insulation which is said to have less energy-loss.
The difference in my system is day and night! especially in resolving and soundstage.
Some people don't like AQ cables because they are overpriced, not becase they are scam.

    • @njm1971nyc

@@njm1971nyc and where do you base this conclusion? Have you heard how a good setup sounds with two of these cables to compare that there is a difference? Even the non-audiophiles in our house can tell the difference. If you have not tried comparing these cables in a good setup, how can you even say that they sound alike? The sound is the only thing that matters since they are audio cables.
