Comments about Spencer's vocals are soo misplaced. If you've clicked this video to see Matt Halpern playing drums to this song and you've managed to find the time to and attention to focus on the vocals your missing a great deal of amazing drumming and not utilising this resource of seeing one of the greatest drummers to every have lived picking apart the boheimian rhapsody of metal on the kit
You are absolutely right! The drumming is just phenomenally good. And that's what this video ultimately is about. . . . . (when they are not overproduced in the studio, Spencer's vocals can suck though)
Listen, you can show me footage of Periphery playing Reptile from every angle you wish to record it at. . . I will always watch it and sing along with it. If I have my guitar, I will play along too.
I would love to enjoy his drumming, but the singing is turning me off everytime. It always gives me chalkboard-scratching-cringy-vibes. Just my 2 cents....
@@julie_hutzler_music Yeah, I can see that! But maybe hard to sing doesn't mean good sound. As a musican myself I often make the decision to make my parts "easier" in order to make the song sound better.
@@ElBoyoElectronico Yes sure, that's a smart thing to do. Fact is, that he can sing it live very closely to the studio version, even though he has to deal with the struggles of using his body as an instrument - if you have a bad day, there's nothing you can do (unlike if your guitar sound crappy lol :D)
@@ShrubPlays Nah. Definitely my opinion, and not a debate because it is my opinion, that the timbre of the vocals is offputting, grating, and whiny. It takes away from the quality of the music.
@@ShrubPlays how could anything related to music ever be factual beyond the notes used, melodic or rhythmic? Quite literally, everything else about music, beyond the notes, is categorically subjective. As such, to interpret the statement as anything other than an opinion would be an error.

@@Panda_SMM I love it. So much effort and salt just because I said I think these lyrics suck. Put that much effort into practice and you'll be unstoppable!
Solid playing for certain. That said, fed up with Every one of these "new metal" sounding the f'n same nowadays. Same style false chords, same clean sound but w/o any heart. As if every one of these 'guys' bought the same Melissa Cross DVD's ffs Besides Jinger & Tatiana - metal is unfortunately dead.
False chords? No heart? Wtf are you talking about? I love Jinjer but Periphery is more sonically diverse and innovative than Jinjer. You sound like boomers who can only reminisce of old music and complain that whatever's on TV isn't good enough
Lmfao, this dude just tossed shade at everyone, but praised Jinjer. What the fuck are you smoking my dude? They're as average as it gets. The human brain will never make sense to me. Thanks for the laughs though. How someone can say that a Metalcore band is more diverse in sound then Peri is insane too me (I don't even like the band just a huge fan of Matt). Care to explain how Jinjer is more diverse then a band like Leprous, or The Dillinger Escape Plan? Also, I thought I'd toss in the Periphery has been a band since 05', Jinjer started in around 09' I believe. So how the fuck are they not "new metal"? Why am I trying to debate someone that doesn't even know when the band they're blowing started. Jinjer literally sounds like every other female led Metalcore act. Talk about a moronic opinion.
That vocal run at 8:51 makes me respect Spencer so much more. Dude can seriously sing.
The limb independence on this dude is absolutely insane
oh trust me, I just so happen to drum exactly the way he does, it's crazy 😂
Awesome angle, performance, and song, but would have been nice to not have a black pants/shoes + carpet situation...
I agree with the similar colors, I would've loved to see his foot-work throughout the song.
@@chaoticjuice18 Try turning your brightness up?
I have no problem seeing his feet on computer/tv but on mobile they just aren’t there.
I'm watching this video in 144p to save data. i didn't even realize this was a drum playthrough
Watch through a better screen then
Title should’ve been ‘Matt Halpern being a beast for 15 minutes’
I love seeing the little details he adds to his playing that you maybe don't hear on your first listen
It’s videos like this that make me strive to be a better drummer.
Whole playthrough is amazing but 12:46-13:20 is just too good!
All the little details in that section is just mesmerizing
More like 0:00 to 14:50 was just awesome
That part is sick
Anyone notice the drumstick disappear at 14:01?
Looks like two takes were spliced together. Some cymbals and cables moved too.
The fact he can memorise these parts note for note in one take is insane!
And play it. I know exactly where everything is but could never pull it all off in one take. That’s hectic.
i mean he did write the drum parts
That’s kinda what you do when you write
Jake Lilje I know he did but to still memorise it and not mess up, c’mon man, that takes some serious skill especially for 15 mins and In one take!
Theres a pretty clear cut before the solo at 12:45
Oh My God!! this is ART!! he is painting!
Awesome, thank you for this! I keep coming back to these Periphery videos; it's nice to see more from them.
Gotta love the black pants/shoes/carpet combo
Just unbelievably good. Makes me want to play better every time I see you play 🤘🏼

Straight up
Matt hits ALL the drums
i fucking love this song, the groove is amazing
I love Matt.
Needs MOAR V-NECK!!!!
Seriously though, I finally got to see all those crazy ghost notes. Just wow
Awesome video! My only complaints are that can't see the bass pedals clearly and Jake can't be heard. Monumental song tho
21 people need to get there ears checked.
I agree
Admit them to a psych ward

"GYAD DAYUMN" -Spencer Sotello
I can't hack those lyrics 😬 this guy deserves better
Maybe you’re just taking things too seriously
Probably :)
Their lyrics used to be better, not really sure what happened
Wish this was instrumental version. No offense Spencer, but i wanna hear the drums better haha
reup?
Indeed
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've very recently been hitting the Periphy high. and my god this song is immaculate. 34k views. you gotta be fucking me. Can share this shit?
Musically this song is so good, but something about Spencer’s vocals in the beginning throws me off for the whole song
Yup he's a bit off tune at the start
Ikr?
@@CrappycrapCrappy good thing he isn't on the album version then
Sounds like he isn't warmed up to me, he nailed it when I saw them last October

I looked at the thumb and thought it was matt garstka
Your thumb must look very interesting.
I feel bad becoming the 670th like, breaking the 669 likes we got going on
Really good drummer! 🤘🥁Kit sounds great! I just can’t get into the singing in this band..
I like his voice alot but it's WAY too far in the front on this mix.
Vocals are much better on the actual album thank God lol
Jezus Christ, man!!!! ...i mean, how in the??!🤯
