    I built the same bench with 1x3. I used an orbital sander to sand the legs flat. Think I’m gonna try with 2x4. Great vid.

    Interesting. I work at a park and I think I am going to make an outdoor version of this with the difference being there will be 4 longer pieces on each of the legs corners so I can put them into the ground and add some concrete to anchor them. Thanks for the idea!

    Will legs support just as is if I make this 10ft long

    • @KellyConcepts
      @KellyConcepts  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Without a doubt, yes. It's extremely sturdy. The only thing I'd maybe do with a 10ft span is add a small 1x4 piece of wood in the middle of the span (5' in). Do this between each 2x4. Probably not even necessary.

    Good idea, but poor execution. Wood glue will hold for just a little while and not well at all on stained or painted wood. If you want to pre-finish stain it but leave raw wood exposed where glue will be applied.

    I copied this for a little 27” x 16” bench and it game out great. Thank you for not editing out the part where you had to fix the evenness of the bottom. I made sure to move the too short pieces so they were flush with the floor rather than the top, since I don’t have a planer like that. I still need to try polyurethane and hopefully it will look half as nice as your bench. thank you for the inspiration cheers

    That's a really nice sturdy looking bench. I've built similar benches and seats in the past. The problem I find when using dimensional lumber is the poor quality of the wood. I was spending at least a half hour or more just sorting through the crappy lumber to find 10 to 12 decent boards. And sometimes there wasn't enough decent boards in an entire stack of the so-called "premium" lumber. I got so fed up with having to cull so much lumber I ended up going back to building storage sheds. But hey, I'm glad it worked out for you.

    I built one. The issue I had was the 2” Brad nails shot out the side?? Even if I went at an inside angle? I’ll be using it in the fire pit.
    I’m building a new one. But no nails, just using glue and screws.

    Great project, just a quick question/notice.
    You got 7 2x4s, thats 14", plus 6 1x4s, thats another 6" in width, isnt your bench W 20" rahter than 15"?

    • @steveh8724
      @steveh8724 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A long time ago your calculation would have been correct. But for the last 50+ years, a 2x4 is NOT 2" x 4". It is 1.5" x 3.5" Similarly a 1x4 is NOT 1" x 4". It is 0.75" x 3.5". So your math was right, but you calculation was incorrect because the dimensions of the lumber are not what you assumed they were.
      So for total width, the actual dimension is: (7 x 1.5") + (6 x 0.75") = 10.5" + 4.5" = 15"

      @@sportiekc2944 Yes for certain joints, but there's plenty of wood glue, plus brads, plus screws. The screws were long enough to go through 3 boards. While it's not really indestructible, pretty sure most whole families could stand on top of it simultaneously without damaging the structure.
