This bench is solid as can be and only cost us about $10 in materials! Can't go wrong with some great decor on the cheap! How did we do? Thanks for watching! I absolutely love it that you let your daughter work with you and you seem to be so patient and fun with her. That kind of parenting will pay off in spades down the road. Well done, Pop!
Even with "simple" builds, the precision of your projects is spot on. I have never seen such a dark stain but the contract with the top is awesome. Your young assistant deserves a larger allowance for the exceptional work she did. especially showing everyone proper use of safety equipment. Great job !!!!
Thank you, Richard! I try to do things well, even when they are simple builds like this. Plus, my shop buddy is quite a stickler about precision. I can’t cut any corners with her around!
I just found this video and your channel (now subscribed) with my son sitting next to me watching his own device and TH-cam. As soon as your daughter started laughing, my son whipped his head around to investigate. Her contagious laughter prompted his…then mine. Suddenly we were all giggling with tears coming down. Went back to the beginning of the video and watched in full together. Thank you! Not just for the informational video, but for a mother / son bonding moment. I think we’ll try to build your bench!
Hello my friend. This is a good idea. Your assistant in this project is also very successful. Her daughter is learning these things. this is a good start. It is also an exciting competition. You have created a cost-effective garden bench. You are my favorite :-) . Thank you for sharing. See you. Great greetings. Stay healthy and safe. I wish you a happy and beautiful new week.
Super awesome project. A good combination of dad and daughter in woodworking.Your daughter wore all the protective aids in wood working which is a lesson . May I ask you kindly to do another version only with Mitre saw and screws and not using so many jigs and sleds and table saws which beginners do not have! I am from UK.
Thank you for sharing such a simplistic design. Most of my time was spent making cross cut sledge to use for making lap joints. Once I got that done, making the bench was a breeze. Though I used 2x6x10ft redwood to cut 2 46inch slabs for top. Did a two tone look as well. Came out really nice and my wife loved it. Happy woodworking with your family.
Wow! makes me want to get back in the shop for some more action. I just wish I had the kind of help you have. I really like her love of sanding. She must get that from you! Great project guys. I am proud of you!
Haha! Thanks, Harki! I suspect I’ll be relegated to grunt work before too long. She enjoyed all aspects of this thing, from the build to the filming and editing. I will definitely let her get involved as much as she wants!
I loved watching this Brent 😊 Brings back a lot of memories of working with my daughters when they were younger 😊 I love the garden with the Peony blossom. The bench is perfect there 😊 Very beautiful 😊 ॐ
That makes me happy to hear, Chris! It was so much fun working together for the build and the video! There will definitely be more projects with my shop buddy. The garden is the responsibility of my wife, since I have no ability to keep plants alive, let alone decide which ones look good together. Thanks for the support!
This bench turned out awesome! You always have to go with a more complicated joinery method hahaha. Love the colors as well. Your daughter should definitely have her own channel! She has a great personality for it. You 2 did a great job on the editing!
Been lkng for a small modern table design to go with my Anna White modern adirondack chairs (black frame & Baltic birch ply version) and a modified/shortened version of this bench will be perfect. Thank u very much!
Might want to be careful there. Sounds like your young helper has her eyes on taking over the top position on the show. lol. I enjoy seeing people include the kids in things. Kids enjoy being included and need to be. I like the color contrast with the legs stained dark. Nice work.
This bench is surprisingly stable as-is. However, a cross-bar would certainly help, if lateral support is a concern. It really depends on your use case. Ours is an occasional use situation.
Hi the bench is simple and elegant love it. One thing you show 4 boards in the video assuming the boards are 8 ft you only need 3 or am I missing something?
Hi there! I am not a carpenter, not near become one. But, why to sand if it will be covered with paint? It does not make any sense to me. Can you explain why?
Thank you very much! I don’t have plans. The top boards are 48 inches long, the vertical pieces are 17 1/2 inches long, and the horizontal pieces are 10 inches long.
It’s definitely possible. There’s a number of ways that you could do it, depending on what tools you have. A circular saw would work. Or a hand saw, if nothing else. Just do some searching for different ways to do half lap joints with the tools in your arsenal.

Will it be sturdy enough to hold a 250lb lineman and his girlfriend?? 😅 I want to build one but I don’t know if it will be sturdy enough to hold the both of us
Normally, I’d say give a shot and find out! It should be no more than $15 in materials. BUT, these aren’t normal times! So it might cost 3x that much now. It definitely won’t budge for one of you, and I bet you’d both be just fine. The half laps in the legs really firm things up.
People like you are so amusing. Nothing is free, so why do you believe it should be? Also traditional tools cost about $100 for all of them combined. Have at it.

@Luciano Kendall thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :D Appreciate it!
@Jermaine Wade you are welcome xD

Thank you very much! It’s my favorite part of some of the projects I do! We always have a blast!
The daughter is so lovable and helpful. I am sure she will grow up to be a fine woman with common sense.
Thank you very much! We sure agree!
Love that you're letting your dad work with you!

I'm 12 and I built this bench by myself it's a nice simple bench to make I give this a five out of five
That’s fantastic! Keep up the great work! Thank you for the comment!

This is a great project and awesome that your shop buddy was able to help you with the building of it!
Thanks, man! My favorite projects involve my shop buddies.
Nice job!! Having "shop buddy" is fantastic!! So much to learn in "the shop"😃
Glad to see a daughter involved and learning in the shop! More woodworkers should encourage this!

Thank you!
Lovely project and wonderful job...and the best part working with your daughter. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely that your daughter helps you. Nice build. Greetings from sunny Jamaica.
Thank you so much!
Finally a weekend woodworker that does things like a boss. And that saw attachment is simply great stuff.
Your daughter is a boss! Go girl!! Great project and super cool to see you both not only working together but narrating too! Amazing 😃
Haha! Thanks, Kirstie! It was a ton of fun working with her from start to finish! We will definitely continue to team up when it makes sense!
You are an amazing girl. I loved helping my dad too. Keep up the good work.

Simple but beautiful!! I like it!!
Very nice looking garden bench and the price was great, not to mention the fun you and your daughter had together making this.
Thanks, Rita! It’s hard to beat cheap stuff that looks nice too. Especially when I can get some quality time with one of my kids.
Simple but elegant. Also love the garden😊
Thank you, sir! And I can take zero credit for the beautiful flowers, that’s all my wife 😁

100% agreed, Jane! She makes every project better!
You did a great job. It’s really interesting the direction everyone goes with the build
Thank you, sir! Agreed that it’s fun to see all the different takes on it. It’s a fun challenge to be a part of!
You are awesome. I learned a lot from my dad too. Now, I have my own shop and sell what I make. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Bob! I’m pretty lucky to have help that appreciates sanding as much as I do. She’s a pretty special shop buddy!
Nice looking bench! great work
Thank you, sir! We had a blast and we’re very happy how it turned out!
"When I say we I mean me" LOL, Your assistant was great.
Haha! Thanks! I definitely agree.
Great looking bench!
Thanks, Stan!
Came out great, awesome job you two! Looking forward to working on projects with my daughters once they're older!
Thanks, man! Things get a lot more fun when your kids can get involved!
Lol move over and let her just run the shop. Great team work and the two tone looks cool.

Cool design!
Loved seeing your daughter work that miter saw like a boss! The bench turned out great. 😀
Thanks, JZ! She just owns that thing!

You are welcome! This does have a very Ana White “feel” to it, doesn’t it? Thanks for watching!
Your daughter needs to start get own channel, she is the real star of the white dog workshop 😁😁
Haha! I figured that would be the case! I’ll just be the laborer and let her run things around here!

HOw have I only just seen the challenge. On it and great video :)
Thanks, Shaun! I’m looking forward to seeing where you go with it!
Hola 👋 felicitaciones muy lindo y didáctico su video saludos cordiales
Thank you very much!
What's keeping the legs from giving out laterally? You guys should put a crossbar connecting the legs in the back.
Hi, I really like you build, can you please share plans or approximate dimensions of the wood that you have used please?
Thank you very much! I don’t have plans. The top boards are 48 inches long, the vertical pieces are 17 1/2 inches long, and the horizontal pieces are 10 inches long.
@@WhiteLabWorkshop Thanks, that's all I need.
You kid is so silly she's so funny
I wonder I of can cut the half lap with a jigsaw a cheap jigsaw.. will it work?
I just rewatched this video. How could I create a similar bench without the fancy table saw or tenon jig? Is it possible?
It’s definitely possible. There’s a number of ways that you could do it, depending on what tools you have. A circular saw would work. Or a hand saw, if nothing else. Just do some searching for different ways to do half lap joints with the tools in your arsenal.
should have used a speed square to mark a full line for the cuts
Awsome
Thank you!
neat job but needs good support on legs
I need a cross cut sled.
What size screws are needed for this project please?
2 1/2 inch screws for the full thickness connections and 2 inch screws for the rabbeted connections.

not so cost effective when you price in the cost of all the fancy tools 😔
