    Hi Karen
If you put the pto lever down and reverse before you fill it it will wrap the chains round the shaft.
When you get to the field you push the pto lever back and you will be moving before the muck starts coming out.
It will give you a more even spread and easier on the 135 for start up.

@Tom Quinlan That's an excellent tip Tom! I understand what your saying that wrapping the chains will take the pressure off tractor for the initial start up. Now are you saying to stick the pto lever in "ground drive" and reverse to wrap the chains?

      @@philipoconnor2236 that’s exactly what I am saying,

Hi Karen, just found your channel about a month ago and its brilliant your a credit to you dad he must be very proud. We keep about 80 cattle in county Antrim and we only use dung as we don't have any slatted sheds with tanks. I've found dung far better for the ground as it doesnt seem to grow as many weeds as slurry does. I usually go over it after spreading with a heavy chain harrow to break it up so it goes into the ground faster. I think that would be ideal for you aswell. Your spreader is fantastic looks like it was built by a big name machinery brand. Keep up the good work you're awesome!

Hi Karen. Suggest you run a Thine Harrow over that field to help the Grass. With soo much moss you need to Scarify it to promote more airflow to the soil to have a healthy grass sward. I would immediately spray the grass (if you have a sprayer) then with Iron to blacken and kill the moss (or spread iron powder with a spreader if you have no sprayer). The moss will just suffocate the grass - but if you treat with iron it will allow the grass to grow. Also running a Spike Aerator over all the grass will make a big difference and help with compaction and promote a better grass sward.

  • @MarkLloyd72
    @MarkLloyd72 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Hi Karen new to your channel but enjoying the content, the new muck spreader suits that little 135 well, also just a bit of info on the 135 it probably has what's called a Live PTO which means that you have to depress the clutch peddle all the way down to get the PTO into gear, also the same peddle does the gears, so with the peddle halfway down you can change gear and the PTO will keep running, but depress it to the floor and both the tractor and PTO stop moving I have a Fordson Dexta which has the same system and it takes some getting use to but it's a very simple system once you do,
As for spreading the muck just start on one side by the fence and work across from there but try not to run on the part you have already put muck on unless you have to of course.

Brilliant item on the farm, you will be able to spread the dung out of calving pens straight away, a handy tip for washing it, fill the machine with water, than go out the field and spin it, it will take 90% of the muck out and will leave it easy for washing out, bit of burnt oil and paint brush than and it will keep it right from rusting, that's what I do, keep up the good work👌

Just a bit of info on the 135 pto, lever forward is ground speed ie the faster the wheels turn the faster the pto turns this is not what you want to be running the spreader or any other application you do. Lever back is live drive ideal for all the pto work you will do with the tractor this works with the revs so more revs faster the pto turns. Also when you fill the spreader fill the centre first and ends last. Your doing a great job keep it up.

You are doing so well. Try leaving a bit of room at each end of the spreader, this way the chains break out and give a better even spread. Flinging it on the down hill is best then it won't cover the tractor. Leaver forward is "land drive" not many uses for that these days. You have a two stage clutch that means the first part of the peddle you use for the gear changes and pushed right down to the floor is to put in the PTO leaver back. Old masseys grind a bit pushing the leaver back so if you find it difficult the clutch can be adjusted from under the belly plate. Have a word with the guy who built you the spreader, he seems to be a nice guy. Cheers Jim in NZ.

Karen I have a mini muck spreader on a massey 35. I find if you fill it and leave the outer ends less full it does not throw heavy lumps on the first start up. And start with some reves and when you get going well slow the reves a bit and it will go further. But it needs reves to start and some times it does stall the engine. Handy wee spreader for wee tigh sheds. And if you want to clear it for storing I use the driest muck or bedding I have and it sweeps it out. Keep up the good work. I managed 7 loads over an acre last time a nice wee light dust. Rab from the North.

I don't think the order of application matters, whatever is the easiest or preferable.
But I'm very curious on how the silage breaks down, it's not really supposed to with the added molasses but perhaps it does make for better fertilizer.
The spreader does look good although the capacity is low, for a small farm and a tight budget you really can't do much better, equipment isn't cheap but much like the oldtimers you make do with what you have and improvise.
You're doing good, no need to worry and if you do just ask any farmer they'll love to teach you.

Hi Karen you must of been in land drive at the start on the pto lever. A good tip get yourself a 135 handbook on the tractor, I don't think they cost much. Good job all the same.

I think you're doing a perfect job with your muckspreder and you will find out more ways to improve it as you go on just one thing awalys spread in to whe wind so you don't get destroyed

The farm yard manure was very dry for spreading and if you could have saturated it with water after filling the spreader , it would spread it better.
Putting your PTO leaver in the forward position engages ground speed PTO and will only operate at moving speed and only when moving, back or forward. Engaging the PTO lever to the rear will operate it at normal speed without moving the tractor and its speed can be altered with the engine revs. Don't forget that you can spread the manure while reversing as well which will reduce the amount of travelling.
When finished, if you fill the spreader with water and go out to the field and put on your PTO, it will remove most of the manure left behind in the spreader. Repeat the process to clean it further.
