  • In today's video I might be overly ambitious but I'm trying to get rid of the heap of muck with my mini muck spreader and loading it with the Everun. We also had a new addition to the farm.

Lovely video Karen. You could try burning off and mulching the rushes followed by minimum till ie disc harrow and powerharrow. No point in ploughing that ground as you'll only be bringing up even poorer soil as well as the stones. Obviously soil test and fertilise and lime as required. Min till works well for grass establishment. Keep up the good work 👏

Hi aye Karen, great video, that’s a big boost the cow calving her without having to assist her !! That’s a good looking calf, Simmental calves tend to be a bit slow to get going ours were always slower than our Limousin calves they were up and flying around very fast !! That’s a great 135 you have it looks really smart !!
You really suit the 135 !! You look a great team together !!👍🏻

    Hi Karen,
A lovely time of the year seeing new life come on the farm, just need spring weather too. It must be better being with your animals piking silage than stuck in a gym looking at the wall. Put a target in your muddy gateway then get the local kids to throw stones at it. Problem solved, no muddy gateway and no stones in the field. Your little muck spreader has done you proud, it will get easier with the loader in time. Not easy with the size of the spreader though.
    Cheers, Poth.

Have a look at The Rare Ruminare. He has various soil types in his farm and lots of rushes. He has many trees planted so that the roots better drain the land. Slowly but surely the rushes diminish as the roots deepen. Sporadic planting is best. Any rushy field bordered by mature trees sees a two yard line of lovely grass infield parallel to the trees. As the extent of rootage reduces the rushes take over. This can be seen on many farms. No ploughing, rotating, spraying or roll lick on required. Tree guards are required.

Hi karen. .search for overseeding with a guttler.
Ive seen fields sprayed off and seeded with a guttler. Works very well. Worth trying and cost to do an acre wouldnt be huge
If you could find a contractor with one locally it would be worth a shot to do an acre of ground. . It would make a good video.
Do a soil test to see if it needs lime. Few loads of slurry out on it to drive it on
Then see if its worth doing more

I have never seen such a manure spreader that holds like one scoup of manure . As a young farmer years back, we had really basic farm machinery that was not nearly even what you have available to use. All the ones I have seen are 4 wheels and pulled that would hold like four or 5 of the amount you can spread at one time.

Well karen, if your thinking of putting out lime, let the dung break down a bit first, you should be ok after a few weeks, if you put lime out first you have to leave it for roughly 3 months before putting out slurry/ dung, but if you put out slurry/dung first you are ok with lime (2) weeks after.

Surprisingly it was limed less than 2 years ago but made no improvement at all

Where is the 390? Give it a run. Girls night out will they all fit in the cab may have to put the trailer on give it a run to shake the wood worms out of it, would the axle out of the donkey's cart hold out. Did your father or grandfather make the trailer? You're going good time is flying 😼👶🤸

I'm pretty sure it was a homemade job but my Dad or Grandad didn't make it. I must ask my Dad about it actually
