    Just wanted to say thank you! You're the only channel I found that mentions the 2 inner fuel tank lines that feed to and from fuel filter. Everyone just skips that! I replaced the quick connect fuel valve (bottom outside tank) along with the tank screen and filter and didn't want to put those two lines back on in reverse. Fuel filter doesn't say in/out and I didn't notice they were different sizes until after you said it. Then It was obvious when looking at the white inner tubes. Started first try, bike is now repaired without any fuel leaks. You gained a new subscriber. Thanks again. 👊👏😁

    All this time I always wondered if HD had a filter in the fuel line and never gave it a second thought.
    I have a '17 Road King but has less than 13k miles and even though my fuel filler cap is off to the side of the tank, I still have a speedometer dash panel that removes the same way as the Street/Road Glide and should be pretty easy.

    Hmm ya don’t havta go through all that! Just get housing up high enough to remove the clip and replace it.. don’t havta remove the hoses 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve changed a few this way

      Dude that was my thought exactly, why do I have to do all this extra if I can just get to the filter.

    Great video, you guys make it look so easy !!! I was told by HD to replace the "Top Plate Gasket" ( 61402-08) on my 2008 FLHTCU. Do you have a video to replace the tank fuel line with check valve (62228-08)?

    Great video I’ve a 2014, 103 classic, I only have a black connection on the ECM which I disconnected, then had no power, can’t find the grey connection, do you have to purge the system to replace the fuel system?

    Back before I had my left shoulder replaced and could still ride H-D’S I changed these fuel filters every 30k because of the crappy fuel quality. Factory telling us they don’t need service until 100k is absolutely a load of crap.

    • @michaeleisen5445
      @michaeleisen5445 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, are you saying that you no longer ride due to your shoulder replacement?
      I also need a left shoulder replacement. I have two Harleys 93 FXRS-CONV and a 2010 FLHTC..
      My left hand gets numb after riding for a while.
      If I can't ride after shoulder replacement, then I will give serious thought about getting it. I will tolerate the numbness in my left hand.
      Ryan's videos are well done, informative, and brutally.
      honest.
      It's like attending night school.

    Just changed my filter after watching this video, took about 30 minutes. Took off dash, unhooked hoses and electrical connection, took off lock ring, changed out filter, installation is reverse of removal.

  • @jst_moto
    @jst_moto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Just curious. I changed my fuel filter (totally agree about 50k or so you should do this especially if you ride in places where the fuel is not the best), I did not remove any of the lines inside the tank. Basically I took the fuel filter housing apart while the lines and that electrical harness were still connected, changed the old filter and o-ring out then reassembled and put it all back in the tank. My question, what would be the issues or potential issues associated with doing it how I did versus how you are showing here? Thanks in advance for your response and keep up the great work!! Love everything y’all do.

    Update: It is actually my Clymers service manual that recommends changing out at 25K. Harley owners manual says 100K, which seems crazy to me!
    Nice...I am planning on doing this vid on my TwinCam FLTRX when I hit 25K, which is what Harley recommends for my bike. I went ahead and got the lock ring tool because it was cheap.

    interesting video. I am interested in going to a Harley from a dual sport. Got 1 question. I ride all the time and my bike is left outside while at work. Rain or shine. How well will Harleys do being left out all the time like that?

    • @echevarriawilson
      @echevarriawilson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey brother, great question. I wanted to respond because I ride everyday, rain or shine here in Florida on a Harley police Road King 2018 Milwaukee 8, 107 engine. I've had it for a little over 3 years, almost 4 and it's sat in the rain while I work my 12 hour shifts. I'm coming up on 60,000 miles. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Because of the humidity, I have to flush the hydraulic clutch every year but other then that, doing the regular scheduled maintenance has it running great. The first year I had it, I sprang for the extended warranties and pre paid maintenance and have had to use the warranty only on the first year for the transmission and clutch assembly. I bought it with 15, 000 miles on it & because it was a police fleet vehicle, it got really beat up from being in service. I have got to say over the years it's been solid and it handles great. I practice motojitsu on it as well as Jerry Pallidino's exercises. I can see myself putting well over 100,000 or 200,000 miles on it.

    How can I purge the system if the bike won’t start? It runs on starting fluid but will not start without it. It will not stay running with out it as well. I can hear the fuel pump running but the bike won’t start. Im trying to figure out whats wrong with it. Ran fine when I parked it we t out 2 days later and it wouldn’t start. I put gas in it about 10 miles from my home on the last ride. May have bad gas.

    That's alot of work to just change a fuel filter. No wonder none of us think of doing it. Definitely important but, wow, that's a whole lotta stuff in that tank.
    Well presented though, thank you.

  • @1974steny

    You don't actually need to disconnect the fuel lines or wires etc you can pull the horse shoe clip change the filter and then just re close the housing and refit the horse shoe clip and done!

  • @RobertVahue

    it does matter which way the filter goes in

  • @cj8172
    @cj8172 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is the longest way to do it and most time consuming. Just pull it up high enough to open the filter housing , replace the filter and put it back together.

  • @HaRLeYDvDsN1215
    @HaRLeYDvDsN1215 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You don't have to do half those steps. The lines don't need to come off. You just lift the filter housing off and pull filter....

  • @half_cocked
    @half_cocked ปีที่แล้ว

    🤨 all you have to do is take the retainer clip off the filter housing and pull the housing off and put it back together with a new filter and seal… seems like a lot of needless work

      It’s more than $100 just to sign the check in sheet in the service Dept. You’d pay at least $400 for HD service to do this.
