Natural deodorant prices are outrageous nowadays. Almost $11 for a tube! Thanks Heidi for sharing your knowledge on how to make it ourselves and save some money!! ☺️☺️
Great deodorant! I like that you can use it as a foot powder. My wife uses foot powder all the time. I am going to whip up some of this for her. Thank you
I have been using this recipe for several months now, and am very happy with it. I did notice staining with the use of coconut oil, so I decided using the powder is sufficient. I also rose geranium, bergamot & rosemary, as I love those scents. I also love the smell of cedarwood, sandalwood & pine, but, had comments if I had been in the woods. geez... NICE WISH!!! LOL! Thanks for sharing!!! Love & prayers
Kathleen Zimmerman no armpit stains by leaving out the coconut oil huh??? Hubby used to like the homemade but hates the pit stains which don't come out in the laundry, so he bought crappy chemical stuff again....... but he gets junk food and hfcs tonic water as well and doesn't seem to be any worse for it..... he also gobs it on in huge globs..... I dab mine on and rub it in and get no pit stains. Straight out of the woods, huh? You can visit me any time, lady , we will talk through a few nights 😁
Amazing I found this - thanks for making the video demonstrating how it's made! :D Please make a diy perfume video too if you haven't already... looking forward to it
Thank you. Came back for a refresher, and sure am glad I did. Had forgotten I could cut back on the baking soda. After experimenting with oils over summer, your blend of orange and clove sounds perfect for the fall. I have made a couple half batches and continue to be impressed with how well this works.
You give such nice directions and have such amazing tips. I was trying to figure out how to do this . I super appreciate you letting me know coconut oil stains shirts . I do not need any more help in staining my shirts since this sweaty menopause lol . I always liked your channel . I am not able to do and have all the super nice stuff you do , but I do watch a lot of your stuff . You seem like a very humble and kind person thank you
I make the same thing but i add coconut oil. I've not had any issues with staining. Before I started making my own, i used to pay $9.99 for a very small jar of the exact same thing!! Pit Paste I believe it is called. I'll save my money and spend 15 mins every year or so and make my own!!
Oh, i have used the coconut oil version for well over a year now and I love it..but I have never thought of just using the powder..! That is well worth a try, thank you so much for this video...off to make some dry deodorant. Hugs from Scotland!
Welcome from Scotland! My father (the one that adopted and raised me) was Scottish and I miss him (he passed away a number of years ago), thus I always have quite the affinity towards anything Scottish :)
Love these instructional vlogs! Will have to make some samplers to try...cause I am one of those with sensitive skin. Thanks for the heads up on that, btw!
Great recipe THANK you for sharing it!! FYI- Magnesium Hydroxide powder is oil soluble & is the main ingredient in milk of magnesia. It is so good for you & very drying, pH balanced, detoxifying & I believe it is also antibacterial (maybe because it's so dry). It is used in skincare preparations & cosmetics all the time as a drying agent. MH is a non-irritant, sub this out for the baking soda for people with sensitive skin. I was mindblown by this stuff!!! I use it with arrowroot & it's lovely. I mix just enough coconut oil to get a paste that rubs right into my skin leaving me dry ALL day - even when I'm hot & sweaty my pits are DRY!!!! I wish I had discovered this years ago. It's a total upgrade to your deodorant & it's cheap!! Magnesium Oxide turns into Magnesium Hydroxide in the presence of water/sweat; however, it is not oil-soluble so the hydroxide form is better if you are using any oils.
This is one I will try. I just bought my first essential oils last week and are ready to try them out. Thanks for sharing how you apply it. The mess of application was one reason I have not done this before. The brush will make it easy.
Good tip and you are correct. I have used them before but I found that they leave minuscule scratches that make it harder and harder to get the ink off over time - even with rubbing alcohol, so whatever I cannot get off with soapy water and a dish rag, I prefer to use the rubbing alcohol on.
Great idea for using it on your feet! As I said in the last video, I sweat like crazy and so does my feet! It’s a must that I have leather shoes! I’m going to give some of the stuff A try but I’m gonna make a very small container of it hoping it doesn’t clump in my pits😂🤦♀️
I have just been using baking soda. I put it in an old small spice jar and sprinkle it in my hands and put it on my armpits. I never thought of putting essential oils with it. I will add that to it. Please do a video on fragrance. I have stopped using perfume and miss smelling nice. I sometimes use Jasmine oil, but I don't like the fragrance as a perfume.
Yes, that is what I do when using the Tattler lids but for metal lids I simply use permanent marker that I then clean off easily enough with isopropyl alcohol.
Hi Heidi, This is a great recipe!! I am so happy to learn about the Arrowroot and/or Tapioca because I had tried another recipe that was just baking soda but it was slightly irritating, so I must be sensitive to it. I like the idea of making a mix. I have one question...how did you decide to use the arrowroot or tapioca? Is there a reason not to use cornstarch? Thanks so much for your guidance!! Thank you!! Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️ PS - Thanks for the tip on removing the permanent ink with rubbing alcohol. I have also found using a bit of oil has helped me remove ink from my lids but then you have to wash it with soap and water. The alcohol trick seems a lot easier and neater. 😀
Most cornstarch is GMO so I try to avoid that. By the way, I forgot to talk about the lid in this one but I just shot a new video yesterday where I mention and show it and thank you for it :D
Rain Country - Oh Heidi...you are so sweet!! It really was nothing. But I have a nice surprise for you which should arrive in a few weeks!! Thank you SO much for all you do and for all I have learned from you!! You are so generous with your knowledge!! Thanks for the tip on the cornstarch!! I think I have some tapioca in my pantry, so I should be all set!! Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️
I actually just use colloidal silver or copper alone these days but Patrick still uses the powder. Once I found the proper ratio for him, he has not had any issues with it
Love this video! As soon as my stink bug is gone I’m totally making this!! Also I wonder if this could be used as a gold bond replacement...? We go through a lot of that at our house!
Between you and Stacey, I am sure learning a lot of ways to save and just live healthier! Thanks! Love, hugs, prayers and may Yahweh bless you!!!! ༺❤️༻༺❤️༻༺❤️
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experience. I'd long given up on finding an aluminium, etc, free deodorant and there you are with such a simple recipe and applicator. May I suggest if the guys are a little "sensitive" about a makeup brush that a shaving brush is an alternative? 💕🦉🇦🇺
No I haven't but it sounds great. I love the scent of lemons. For me, lemons are a precious commodity and organic ones are typically $1.30 each so I save them for consuming. I love to eat lemons with salt! :D
Rain Country I’ve been so excited about having an easy deodorant alternative! Doesn’t stop the sweating so much but I believe sweating is healthy. lemons are so good for the skin, I’ve even been using it for my acne. It’s working wonders. I wanted something to help treat the acne for so long, and have been hesitant about going to the doc for it knowing they’ll give me a bunch of mumbo jumbo.. as God is laying things on my heart and in the process of renewing my mind, he hasn’t left me hanging! I know it’s no coincidence I’ve come across your channel. Ps. I’ve never tried lemons with salt.. it’s probably not bad! I pour honey on my lemon slices :)
I don't make cologne as Patrick does not wear it but if I were to do so, I would use essential oils like cedar and patchouli and mix them in a carrier of almond or avocado oil. I will try to put a video together when I can with some ideas of blends
It kinda concerns me to put clove oil on skins. Doesn’t it eat through stuff. Thanks for all your great videos. ❤I currently have made and am using your recipes for shampoo, herb vinegar hair rinse, hair growth oil, tooth powder…..making deodorant powder today.
Hi, May I asked whether is essential really safe for skin by just mixing with powder alone and applying it on skin and without using any base oil such as coconut oil ? And also if I do stink do I up the amount of baking soda?
And it is so great one can make their own blends and they are natural, safe, and healthy and not likely to cause issues to those around that are sensitive to perfumes
@@RainCountryHomestead Exactly! Btw I made my deodorant with coconut oil once and quickly realized that was too much. I added more arrowroot and baking soda. After that I only put 2 T in. I see you didn't use any and since I'm due to make more, I'm going to try that! Thanks for going over how to apply...was gonna ask about it.😁

Hello, can you use just one essential oil sent or do they work better combining the two essential oils. Another question, can you use Shea butter instead of coconut oil. To me the coconut oil has a low temperature. Lord willing I'm putting it in deordent tubes.i don't want the coconut oil to melt while it's in cabinet. Hope I'm making sense. Thanks God bless
Maybe a combination of corn starch and baking soda would work. I have pure baking soda with no added chemicals that I use in my tooth powder. What do you think?
The starch used in it does help with absorbing excess moisture but you may want to decrease the baking soda or not use it at all as it can irritate in such a situation. Most essential oils you may add would help to kill bacteria
I was wondering... if the essential oils are just for fragrance, why not just use fragrance oils? Aren't they stronger and longer lasting? Also, perhaps cheaper? I am having trouble finding exact information on fragrance oils. Maybe that is because they aren't made for internal use so they don't have to reveal everything. And you know that "all natural" doesn't mean much. I would like to use them in my soaps and know a lot of people do use fragrance oils in soap making. If only I could find all the information on what they are exactly. Have you considered using them in deodorant or soaps?
fragrance oils are synthetic, that is why I do not use them. I accidentally bought a fragrance oil (it was improperly labeled online). I was suppose to be ordering a jasmine natural oils blend (I knew it would not be 100% Jasmine oil) What I got was a fragrance oil that had synthetic ingredients and it was listed as such on the bottle.
I just read this article which helped me to understand a little more. I hope it's OK to post the link here for you? If you are interested in reading it. www.chagrinvalleysoapandsalve.com/blog/posts/natural-fragrance-oil-really/
You are correct that they are very different. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate while washing soda is sodium carbonate. I only use washing soda in my laundry soap while baking soda I use in most other applications
This is one of those things that I have been wanting to try but keep putting it off. Do you have a video making bug repellent? I couldn't find one and I have found two ticks on me this week. Disgusting creatures!! Thank you.
I assume you mean baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and it most certainly is NOT toxic, In fact the reason it is called "baking soda" is because it is commonly used in baking breads, cookies, cakes and more. Even those who use baking powder are still using baking soda as it is one of the two main ingredients that makes up baking powder
Does this stay during a workout? I'm trying to switch over to deodorant that I don't have to buy but when I tried the baking soda, flour and coconut oil, my underarms were torn up. Can I do this without the baking soda?
The thing is, once you get away from store bought deodorant, you may find that after time you really do not need it. You can try making it without baking soda but have found a good balance with the 1:1 ration of baking soda to starch. Now, I mostly just use colloidal copper or silver with essential oils in them and it works well for me
@@RainCountryHomestead Yeah. It's going on two weeks with no deodorant for me but the baking soda did burn my arms up. I don't want to go back to store bought deodorant at all. So I'll try this and look into the colloidal silver. Thanks for responding
The thing I do not like about blends like that is you do not know what is in them so I could not say on that but for those who have issues with foot or toenail fungus, I would recommend tea tree oil. Oregano is good for killing fungus but could get too hot.
I really have found the same thing too and keep meaning to talk more about this in another video. I think for us, it is just the habit of using it but yes, when I get sweaty, I like the powder as it helps absorb the sweat and makes me feel more fresh. Times like that, I use it wherever I feel I need it! haha
I enjoy the smell of patchouli, sandalwood and vanilla. Give that a try. It is oh so beautiful to smell.

baking soda does not absorb sweat but it kills bacteria and ordor
Maybe a combination of corn starch and baking soda would work. I have pure baking soda with no added chemicals that I use in my tooth powder. What do you think?
Use the WELLS BEGINGINGS powder, its got cornstarch.
I try to avoid cornstarch myself, this is why I use tapioca or arrow root, they have the same exact consistency and feel as cornstarch
@@RainCountryHomestead I can see why you avoid it,its derived from corn😜will have to switch to a different product.no wonder why it's so cheap.
I do the same thing for perfume some of my lotion bars I add more ess.oils and use it that way
Could this powder be used to help sweating between folds of skin? Is there an antibacterial oil that can be added to prevent heat rash?
The starch used in it does help with absorbing excess moisture but you may want to decrease the baking soda or not use it at all as it can irritate in such a situation. Most essential oils you may add would help to kill bacteria

Kathleen Zimmerman sounds like plan and should be good for the gums.
Sounds like a good idea and a great way to get more through absorption in the gums as well :D
Do you use the baking soda from the baking section or the washing powder section??? They are not same & shouldn't be mixed up.
You are correct that they are very different. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate while washing soda is sodium carbonate. I only use washing soda in my laundry soap while baking soda I use in most other applications
Howdy can I use Bentonite clay as well?
Yes, I usually add that to my tooth powder but you can use it in the deodorant if you prefer

What about if you are wearing black, does it show powdery on your clothes?
I suppose it would depend on what type of top you are wearing. Sleeves would hide this but if you are wearing a tank top, it could possibly show.
What would you use for a in the boot foot powder. I generally use purification essential oil
The thing I do not like about blends like that is you do not know what is in them so I could not say on that but for those who have issues with foot or toenail fungus, I would recommend tea tree oil. Oregano is good for killing fungus but could get too hot.
Heidi. I'm so sorry. Please check your email. There's an issue with your package.
What is the best way to apply this?
Spoke to soon sorry
With a makeup brush
Not sure how I did not see your reply before I replied, weird! haha! Either way, I figured you simply had not got to that part yet :D
Rain Country since we have gotten away from chemicals for the most part. I haven't needed deodorant. But it isn't summer yet.lol just getting ideas
I really have found the same thing too and keep meaning to talk more about this in another video. I think for us, it is just the habit of using it but yes, when I get sweaty, I like the powder as it helps absorb the sweat and makes me feel more fresh. Times like that, I use it wherever I feel I need it! haha
