Our Bedroom Makeover | A Massive Transformation and DIY Masterpiece

- Since we moved to Florida earlier this year, we have worked diligently on updating all of the rooms in our home to capture our character, to be inviting warm spaces, and to truly make this house a home.
In this episode, we complete our renovations by completing the master/primary room! We looked for cost effective ways to bring the vision to life and I am so pleased by all of the incredible work Chad put into bringing the vision to life.
Our kiddos were great helpers too, excited to be a part of the renovation all along the way -- Including William, who arrived JUST before we completed the final steps in our redesign. The girls call this room the 'Hotel' because of how eccentric and classy the room looks - It has been so encouraging and thrilling to hear their perspective on it!
Chad will walk you through some of the inexpensive ways he brought our accent wall to life, how recycled wood from old jobs helped to create our headboard, how trim pieces could be used to form a custom picture frame, and how simple (yet beautiful) accents can really transform a living space into something remarkable!

Erin, with your eye for design and Chad’s unbelievable carpentry skills, people would pay good money to have you decorate their homes. LOVE the new room!!! It is sooo amazing to me what a coat of paint can do to a room!! And it such a calming experience place!!! Also, sooo impressed on how Chad actually shows and explains to his children when he does/ makes something!!! To tell the truth, it really seems like there not a lot of dad’s who have the time or the patience to do this!!! What a wonderful example he is showing the children how to do things the right way and that care and compassion are a part of it!! Little William is sooo adorable!! Chad you are now and forever and always have been one of my favorites who has married into the Bates Family beside Evan. Your an amazing Husband, Father and Jack of all Trades. It looks so beautiful - I am sure I think along with everyone else - Chad can do anything!
The room came out absolutely gorgeous! When I was about five years old my daddy added a big addition onto the back of our house. He started me out with 2 by fours, 10 penny nails and a hammer. He taught me how to hammer the nails into the two by fours. This kept me busy while he was installing the windows in one of the rooms. As the years went by he taught me so many other things and by the time I was 13 I was using power saws and other things like drills and sanders. I fell in love with woodworking and building things. I made all kinds of things like shelving, bed frames, benches and much more. My husband hates building anything. L O L. I did all the crown molding and chair rails out of cheap wood but, like Chad said, you can make cheap wood look expensive. A little over two years ago I tripped over A floor separator that separated our kitchen tile from our wood floor in the living room and broke my arm. It also chipped two places in my Rotary cuff, crushed my bone in my elbow and caused nerve damage in 2 of my fingers. The physical therapy place I was going to, put my arm into an MRI cylinder and for some reason it was padded with foam and it was very painful. I heard a pop and found out later that they had broke my humerus bone in my arm again. I was at 75% healed and had to start all over again. To this day I cannot lift a gallon jug of water or even my handheld drill so, I haven’t built anything in over two years. I love to watch Chad build things because I can’t anymore. I love watching him teach Carson and the girls how to build stuff. It brings back such fond memories of my daddy teaching me when I was just a five year old little girl. Whoever you are renting from, should be paying you to live there! You are turning a barely finished structure into a gorgeous home. I absolutely adore how Chad teaches the kids as he works. I know it would be so much easier to just do it himself. Instead he is involving them and they are learning valuable skills. No complaining either. Great parents!
