    Dang just watched this, I am actually throwing a 1070ti mini in my HP G1 Elite Desk with i7 4770. I went with the 1070 mini so I won't have to do all the extra stuff in this vid. This video lets me know it should work just fine, didn't know you could get away with a 365w power supply though, thought at least 450-500w would be needed.

    I used an Optiplex 790 as a base build for a "gaming" pc, really it's just a work horse and a friend gifted me a Gigabyte 1070 8GB and it's been in there since 2018, with a 500W Thermaltake, and I had to cut the hard drive cage to get the card to fit and decided to leave the cage in to hold the HDD and have a place to mount the SSD, it's a big wonky but it does the job lol. Now, I'm looking to upgrade since this is showing it's age and I'm not trying to spend more than I have to so, another plex it is.

    I am upgrading my dell OptiPlex 9020 sff. It already has i7-4770. I actually bought this same card Evga 1070 and 24 pin connector, PCI riser cable, EVGA 600 W PSU,12 gb ddr3 1600 mhz. I will put all these together to turn my pc to a monster. Will update next week when I finish this project. I will leave PSU and GPU outside the case because they won't fit on sff case. wish me luck.

Great combination with i7-4770 but if you want to use that card 100% upgrade the motherboard and buy a cpu with overclocked variant intel for more great results.

    Yes, mod the Fark out of it.
    The Dell Optiplex 9020 mini tower I have on a shelf in front of me at work has the following done:
    Replaced power supply with Corsair 650w
    Installed Arctic Freezer 7 Pro mounted to the OEM board - had to mod the cooler side brackets a bit
    Have a Radeon R9 - 380x installed for three monitors out with all DP.
    Cut out a rectangle window just below the opening handle (not the best cut, but from a distance looks good enough). The cover is painted with four layers of Rustoleum Gunmetal Gray and the acrylic window is glued on with RTV sealer and holds very well.
    Standard config - I7-4790, 32GB RAM, One 512GB Samsung boot drive, Two Seagate 1TB drives in raid 0. and one Seagate drive 1TB for backup storage. Optical drive removed/replaced with Kingwin USB 3.0 7 port bay.

    I've just been reading various posts in the Dell Community forums and they're quite insistent that the fastest GPU you can put in a 9020 is a GTX 1060 because the max wattage in the PCIe x 16 slot is 75w. I actually picked up a GTX 1070, which has a 150w power requirement, but with the power demand exceeding what the motherboard can actually supply safely via the PCIe slot, it seems unsafe to run anything demanding on it like an upscaling video program that will peg the GPU to the wall for hours if not days at a time, depending on the length of the video. I'm now considering simply picking up a used PC with a more capable motherboard, that can actually handle a 150w-250w GPU, and going with a 1080 Ti at double the rendering capability than the GTX 1070... and do it comfortably...

    • @RAVisuals
      @RAVisuals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man, I wouldn't try to install anything past the 1070 anyway. There's already going to be bottlenecking on the CPU side so its just not really worth it.

    Very intresting experiment. Although this system is running normal right now, I concern that the sata to pcie 8pin cable would definitely catch fire when gtx 1070 run on full power(150w). Sata to 8 pin cable will provide maximum 54w and it will be lower than that becuase ssd drive also sharing that single sata power source. So total power that is available for gtx 1070 in this system is lower than 75w(pcie)+54w(sata)=129w. If we assume your SSD consum about 5w~9w, there is only maximum of 120w left for gtx 1070. My opinion is either you need a pcie 6 pin to 8 pin cable(75w) to make sure a maximum enough power for gtx 1070 or chose a safer graphic card that has lower TDP than 120w when the sata to 8 pin cable is applied as power source.
    By touching the sata to 8 pin yellow cable , you may feel that cable very very hot.
    This happened to some crypto miners mining rig when they applied to that cable .

    please what dell optiplex model is this and can i do this with the gtx 1080(they seem to be alot similar) im getting a gtx 1080 amp edition this week for a very good price and hoping to use it with a budget dell or hp desktop 3rd or 4th gen. any feedback will be appreciated , thanks

      this was a 3020 with an upgraded dell power supply from a t1600! also I wouldn't do a 1080 as you'll definitely see more bottlenecking!
