You're right. Last year, after 18 years of springing open, it actually tore (broke) the mounting point on the inner fender, which needed a weld repair and a replacement which I got off ebay. What a difference, I'm going to replace the other side now. I've had the car from new and those struts have never done anything, but I just didn't know any better - I assumed because it did that on day one, that was how they were supposed to be. @@juggnautbitch

The E60 trunk always swings up like that, just has a massive spring to make it open.
Yeah those springs are pretty heavy. Opens so aggressively, Seems like the trunk could fly off the damn car 😂
It's not supposed to fly open like that. It means the gas strut inside the passenger side trunk spring is blown.
