As a cargo hub, Heathrow handles a third of the UK's long-haul export goods, by value. And sending out seafood by air is a huge part of Heathrow's daily operation. Ed sees how crates of seafood are transported beneath the feet of long-haul passengers, in cargo holds, and how this dual purposing of flights allows the Scottish salmon industry to export nearly a quarter of a billion pounds worth of salmon a year to far flung places like the USA and China.

You make it seem like the importers are getting free delivery of their salmon, and that passengers are subsidising this cost. I assure you they’re not, importers will pay for the extra fuel required.
@@snownation I'm only suggesting the way it was said seemed to suggest that exporting goods this way made sense from a fuel perspective. It's good business sense, but obviously costs more money and produces more carbon emissions.

Talking about yr money saving opportunities, right. In actuality, not only r they illegally shipping tons n tons of raw fish n other seafood for FREE, but the airline is Getting Paid (by all the "paying" customers) to fly all that nastiness across the globe. All right under all y'all assess. There is no way this is legal....right? Airlines r adding literal TONS in weight to each flight leaving Britain, the strain its putting on the plain engines im sure is going to cause a crash. The money these crooks r saving by doing this is going to cost them dearly, I'm sure. Be careful Britains peoples

Sarah! Surely the engineers who designed and built the airplane are not as stupid as you!! They sure make lot of calculations before designing an airplane. Hence, these jets, their engines and wings are designed to carry a load of salmon...and yes stuff which is much heavier than that....so ya...tons of fish don't cause planes to crash...
