Please excuse my ignorance, but I've just discovered these guys, and they are awesome!!! We have nothing of this standard in Australia, it's all paid white bread fluff. This is poor man's old school Top Gear, high praise!! Thanks guys !!
It's nice that they include the instructions for all those oversized items. Without that being supported I would say that the bed just too small to have a huge practicality edge in my mind. Though I'd still consider it inconveniently small, especially considering you can't fold down the second row of seats like an SUV.
Very good thought with the suv folding seats, i mean hell we used to fold the seats down in my moms old forester and fil it with wood. But realistically i don't have any uses on my own that would require a larger space so it's a nice rig, I agree it's a bit of an in-between size for someone who actually needs the truck bed.
I love that on Doug Demuro's review, he couldn't figure out how to lock the bed cover, while it was one of the first things that Yuri and Jakob covered. Oh Doug lol, maybe he needs to watch this video
Something like this would be perfect for my Nana of 80 years young. Arthritis and knee troubles but she keeps on going! Yuri is onto something with GAV! My Nana liked trucks back in the day but most modern ones and her 2013 Chrysler Town and Country are getting too big and bulky for her to drive safely. Something like this might be perfect so she has the ride height she's familiar with. She's 4'11" so clearance and view are of the utmost importance! Thanks for the ideas Yuri!
As much as I would too Subaru has been playing with themselves with the Outback Wilderness edition, and other pointless editions outside of the real stuff like the XT. They only recently started putting the forester motor in the Crosstrek after people wanted that since it came out~ i still want a Hatch WRX, but we get another 3rd row passenger SUV to fail where the tribecca has. I like the awd but i'm scared for the brand's future.
@@davidmccarthy6061 Don't think Subaru is going anywhere. They are one of the most profitable manufactures out there right now. They are slow with being the first to market with anything. With that being said, what saved them was the Crosstrek and that changed the market for everyone.
@@Shishizurui I like the idea of the wilderness versions of subies, but the outback just isn't enough. This is honestly what most non-work pickup truck drivers need! Most are getting it as family cars judging by the small box and shiny unscratched bumpers. Also small enough to maneuver on camping roads. Hopefully these Ute like things gain popularity!!
I would love to have one of these, but I can tell by that composite bed it's way too light duty for my needs. I'm one of those few weirdos who drives a pickup because I actually need it. Light duty towing, hauling crap to the landfill, maxing out the payload with gravel, trips to the big box store. As it is, my 6ft bed barely cuts the mustard. I don't want a full size truck though. I live in the city.
Spare yourself the embarrassment from every person that looks your way I don’t understand why they don’t include the new ranger in this class just get the full bed ranger or even the Tacoma refresh coming next year and leave the idea of owning a pussy Hyundai truck.
@@matthewfawaz2247 Those are certainly more capable trucks, but they're also larger and cost more. I currently have a 2007 Canyon and love it. Basic, brawny, and dependable. A perfect work truck.
Women love this vehicle. It's light, lovely, and little. For moms with kids with play dates and biles, for the lady who likes gardening and FYI projects around the house this is perfect. For weekend camping or cross country trips again comply travel inside and luggage in the back. Super cute.
With the current Canadian to USD conversion, it would equal to around $35,762 USD. Estimated pricing for the equivalent, as per USA Hyundai is $39,720, w/o shipping. That’s the same price as a lower tier model, SEL Premium starting price. You definitely have the better price and option in Canada. This just doesn’t add up, as the vehicle is made in the states. Excellent work guys, have been subscribed for a really long time. Things just get better.
The infotainment bulbs are called Nixie clocks... also - It boggles my mind why these new mini trucks don't incorporate some kind of fold down mid-gate like the Chevrolet Avalanche used to have. Imagine how awesome this would be if you could magically double the bedsize when you needed to.
On a unibody platform the C pillars and front of the bed/rear of the interior are a major structural point. The Avalanche was body on frame and only had those C-Pillar extensions on the bedsides to prevent body shake I would imagine. Doing something like the Avalanche's passthrough on a unibody vehicle probably wouldn't be possible, at most you could maybe do a small ski passthrough like a sedan or the tiny one that was in the Baja
I love my 2019 VW Jetta GLI 35th Anniversary model in every way including the interior EXCEPT for that damm piano black trim sections. Highly reflective when sunny and picks up dirt and smudges the minuets after I clean it. So these boys are quite correct on that point. Great review as always, not my jam but you two have been doing such a great job and you deserve the success and recognition you have achieved. Thank you and cheers!
Had the pleasure of driving around in this thing with Sam from CarLegion. It's just a joy to cruise around in and doesn't leave you wanting for utility. Wouldn't mind having one in my garage, but I think this is more of a west coast vehicle (think surfer dudes).
I like this design. I think it's the best iteration of this body configuration to date and I hope they sell a ton of them. Seriously doubt if they'll go out to a lot of Grandmas or Grandpas. I suspect it will be folks between 25-40 for the most part but who knows? Also, they gave it plenty of power and comfort features, so it functions as a road trip car too in addition to a daily. If you can only have one car and you have an active lifestyle, this is a great solution. Nice that they gave it some decent color options too, but they yellow with grey cladding was perfect! I hope they give that combo a whirl at some point. Lava orange with charcoal grey would probably look cool too.
I spend a lot of time here in the Salinas valley, which is very close to Santa Cruz. And omg I can’t even tell you how many of these I actually see every day so far. Guaranteed I see about 10 a day. It’s actually pretty cool to see Hyundai successfully getting buyers where their car is named after.
Looks way better then the Subaru Baja, likely doesn’t have head gasket and oil burn issues either. Don’t know if it will be popular with the REI and Patagonia crowd. Subaru brand marketing goes far.
OMG I love it!!! When I sold Hyundai they showed pictures of this, so I have been waiting for them to bring it to market! Yeah Hyundai, killing it again. I’m almost ready to come out of retirement, not.
Watch it sonnies: I'm old enough for grandmother status and I'm a farmer. And I like torque when I need it. This vehicle is adorable and does reference the Subie truck. Some grannies need more room for the trees though. Ouch! The price. Definitely want Subaru to join this race.
And in New Zealand too! Would love to see it here. Not sure about a diesel engine, as is more like an SUV. But knowing Hyundai in our market, petrol engine would be 2wd and diesel would be AWD
Good for Kayakers too. Those kayaks can be really hard to get on the roof a full size SUV. This would let you slide it up onto the relatively low bed, then slide it onto a kayak rack on the roof without damaging the car.
It's more of an acquired taste in my opinion. Personally, I think it looks like a shapeless blue glob decided to get a stubble to come off as cool and rugged.
Thanks for the video!! ...well guess I'm still a big minority. 40year old male gardener who also enjoys seeing other peoples gardens/works of art. & it is sort of crazy seeing that this would work perfectly! I'm a VW boy but this is awesome. Hyundai and KIA are what VW used to be, the fun brand. That is before they started chasing big fat American cars. I'd highly consider this
Please do not straight pipe your Santa Cruz I mean it’s a Santa Cruz why would you do that but most importantly stop straight piping any type of car, it sounds like shit, instead invest on a nice catback exhaust system, and if you can some headers and high flow cats, a x pipe and a intake will make your car sound way nicer
I’m looking for a new car and this might just be perfect. I want a pickup but don’t really need a full size and my wife only wants to consider an SUV. This is like the best of both worlds!
So far Im liking this better than the Maverick even though its not out yet. But I think it looks better and has a more modern looking interior than the Maverick
I like Fords more traditional truck styling on the Maverick better, but that’s just my opinion, I think the Maverick will attract more Truck buyers, in part because it’s a Ford and also because it looks more familiar, as for the Santa Cruz it seems most of it’s market will be from SUV buyers who had to compromise before but now they don’t have to because this replaces the trunk with a bed.
The fact that the Cruz costs more than the Tucson will really hurt sales. If i could save money and gain air conditioned storage ill do it. Dirt in a SUV isn’t that difficult to vacuum out. Only downside to the Tucson is gas fumes when transporting mower fuel. Going from memory the Explorer Sport Trac they referenced cost about $2k (8-10%) less than the regular Explorer, and it still took incentives to move those Sport Tracs.
@@double_joseph327 depends on what you’re looking for, I want the hybrid drive train in the Maverick for the gas savings, as well as the more traditional infotainment and buttons, and a slightly bigger bed

Boards fit in the back seat or in the bed and possibly on the roof rack. Easy to park and light on gas. I see this being all sun bleached and covered in stickers in about 8-10 years.
I LOVE that weird hybrid truck/ute's are making a comeback. Screw all the 'truck guys' claiming these aren't pick-ups. Love my 2013 Ridgeline - and seeing this body style make a comeback is so good.
Not a truck any more than an El Camino, Ranchero or a Subaru Brat.
It's unibody it's not a truck. My 4runner is more of a truck than this. lol
Y'all cry about gloss black all the time. Unless youre some jerkoff 1% it doesnt matter. Take a paper towel with some windex if it really bothers you before you bring your date in. Get over it.
@@Kody742 You are just straight up wrong. Stop with this elitist truck shit.
@@michaelc6473 just say you like shit cars and move on
Please excuse my ignorance, but I've just discovered these guys, and they are awesome!!!
Now there's a quirk and feature he missed
Something like this would be perfect for my Nana of 80 years young. Arthritis and knee troubles but she keeps on going! Yuri is onto something with GAV! My Nana liked trucks back in the day but most modern ones and her 2013 Chrysler Town and Country are getting too big and bulky for her to drive safely. Something like this might be perfect so she has the ride height she's familiar with. She's 4'11" so clearance and view are of the utmost importance! Thanks for the ideas Yuri!
That yellow/silver Baja photoshop actually looked awesome.
I want a Baja, hopefully it comes back.
It was ahead of its time. Maybe if they do a Baja EV, if Subie survives long enough to transition to electric.
I've seen people lift normal outbacks and add some better tires and it's way taller and more capable than the wilderness (and can probably be done cheaper). they need to sell them with 2" lifts and agressive ATs
Why Subaru is a dead company going straight into bankruptcy
This is honestly what most non-work pickup truck drivers need! Most are getting it as family cars judging by the small box and shiny unscratched bumpers. Also small enough to maneuver on camping roads. Hopefully these Ute like things gain popularity!!
to bad that Dual_Clutch will make off roading a NIGHTMARE.
I live in the city.
cool story, are you selling the movie rights?
@@BoopSnoot LOL!!
@@matthewfawaz2247 Ahh from the elites who drive American trucks they don't actually need? Aka the biggest wankers on the roads.
Women love this vehicle. It's light, lovely, and little. For moms with kids with play dates and biles, for
the lady who likes gardening and FYI projects around the house this is perfect.
For weekend camping or cross country trips again comply travel inside and luggage in the back.
Super cute.
This came out of no where on a Monday night.
Jakub’s watch collection it’s just as cool as their channel, amazing!!
I really like the look of the Maverick and absolutely HATE the looks of the Baja and first gen Ridgeline. To each their own.
It already looks dated and cheap
😂
Imagine how awesome this would be if you could magically double the bedsize when you needed to.
its Nixie bulbs not "Nixie clocks".
Nixie clock is a clock use Nixie bulbs as display. if it not clock, its just Nixie bulb.
The avalanche bed was such a great idea. The maverick and ridgeline and SC all should’ve had it.
14:19 I actually think you guys don't complain about gloss black enough - the manufacturers are still putting it into their cars!
The Jakob and Yuri reviews I love.
Had the pleasure of driving around in this thing with Sam from CarLegion. It's just a joy to cruise around in and doesn't leave you wanting for utility. Wouldn't mind having one in my garage, but I think this is more of a west coast vehicle (think surfer dudes).
FYI dealers in the USA are marking them up $5000 - i bought a grey limited edition AWD here in Florida and i love it
Check tsp.truecar.com for in stock pricing next time. Congrats!
Don't forget the Ranchero, El Camino, and my personal favorite, the Mustero as competition. (may they all rest in peace)
Also Dodge Rampage, Plymouth Scamp.
Subaru brat
Suburu Brat. There's probably a good reason why they are all resting in peace
Love you guys! My girlfriend not so much, she just doesn't understand cars and why I watch.
My gf just picked up one in Hampton grey. She’s 28
190k later, I’m still waiting for my EJ253 head gaskets to shit the bed…
Honestly one of the best intros ive ever seen, super clean
"the photoshopped subaru baha that everybody wanted to see"
😳😳😳 im into it
guys congratulations on hiring an editor!
See timestamp 6:24.
Shout out to the Chevy LUV. It's the truck my dad left our family with.
Thank goodness it comes with a quick engine option. To truly be a Baja, it needs to be quick.
Watch it sonnies: I'm old enough for grandmother status and I'm a farmer. And I like torque when I need it. This vehicle is adorable and does reference the Subie truck. Some grannies need more room for the trees though. Ouch! The price. Definitely want Subaru to join this race.
i wish they made a RHD version of this Hyundai, it would sell like hotcakes in markets like Australia
I think it would have to be a diesel to actually sell in Australia
@@f181234 plop a diesel from the Tucson and call it a day
And in New Zealand too! Would love to see it here.
Not sure about a diesel engine, as is more like an SUV. But knowing Hyundai in our market, petrol engine would be 2wd and diesel would be AWD
Congrats on the new watch.
For a moment there, I thought Yuri was gonna eat that flower, too.
Good for Kayakers too. Those kayaks can be really hard to get on the roof a full size SUV. This would let you slide it up onto the relatively low bed, then slide it onto a kayak rack on the roof without damaging the car.
The front looks great. The interior follows suit. Great review!
The front end looks horrid in my opinion
It's more of an acquired taste in my opinion. Personally, I think it looks like a shapeless blue glob decided to get a stubble to come off as cool and rugged.
@@SirBroccolingtonIII hahahaha!
Jakub has the sickest watches in the car review segment by far, what a boss!!!
As someone who drives a truck, I want something with similar driving dynamics, but I actually need a larger bed.
Thanks for the video!! ...well guess I'm still a big minority. 40year old male gardener who also enjoys seeing other peoples gardens/works of art. & it is sort of crazy seeing that this would work perfectly! Sometimes you just need to make a small trip to Lowes for some landscaping gear. & sometimes a trip to the local nursery to fill that need for another plant or two or three. Ha! .........definitely going to have to cash in some of the 401k to buy this real quick!!
I forget how good it looks I remember when you guys did the live stream on this it’s pretty decent and the trunk thing yuri being In the back and Jacob closing it lol
I have a 2020 GMC Canyon Denali and I hate how much better the tech is on this truck, and it’s really pretty attractive looking too.
This is cool, hope they make a RHD for Australia
Yes! I'd love to see it here in New Zealand!
I'm sure there's market in Au/Nz
I'm a VW boy but this is awesome. Hyundai and KIA are what VW used to be, the fun brand. That is before they started chasing big fat American cars. I'd highly consider this
It’s good to have paddles still so you can “manually” downshift after a starightpipe ;)
@@Justaeuropeanman no
I’m looking for a new car and this might just be perfect. I want a pickup but don’t really need a full size and my wife only wants to consider an SUV. This is like the best of both worlds!
Lmao literally the moment the embargo was lifted 20 videos of this 😂
That's usually how it works...
Alot of young people will love this to. And I'm sure as time goes on they'll do a crazy beefed up off road beast
Hyundai/Kia is doing amazing recently with design and quality my next car would def be a veloster N.
wait for Elantra N or Kona N
I'm excited for the Kona N
So far Im liking this better than the Maverick even though its not out yet. But I think it looks better and has a more modern looking interior than the Maverick
*Before we know it in a few years it will be the pickup truck era.*
Prepare for impact, SUVs
I want cheap sport cars to come back😔
@@quake7988 Same. The golden era of Japanese sports cars. But hey atleast some like Toyota and Mazda are left... Even if only sorta
It's been the pickup truck era in Murica. lol
Neato! Hyundai really have stepped up their game over the years 🔥🔥🔥
I like Fords more traditional truck styling on the Maverick better, but that’s just my opinion, I think the Maverick will attract more Truck buyers, in part because it’s a Ford and also because it looks more familiar, as for the Santa Cruz it seems most of it’s market will be from SUV buyers who had to compromise before but now they don’t have to because this replaces the trunk with a bed.
You just get more bang for buck with Hyundai
@@double_joseph327 depends on what you’re looking for, I want the hybrid drive train in the Maverick for the gas savings, as well as the more traditional infotainment and buttons, and a slightly bigger bed
I really hope car manufacturers keep introducing new vehicles in this category so I can finally buy a volkswagen Amarok in North America
Personally I hardly ever use the volume or tuning knobs...the ones on the steering wheel are fine for me. So, the lack of those knobs is really a very minor point and is not a deal breaker for me
Its actually pretty convenient considering how low the bed is making it easier to put heavy atuff in the back. I definitely want one. Always liked the weirdness of the Baja.
I don’t read in bulb is probably the funniest thing I’ve ever heard on a car review
I'm salivating over this in limited trim in Hampton gray with lighter gray leather interior... apt next Friday to take a look at one! I disagree with the Grandma label. Guys people have hobbies. I garden AND I raise chickens. I don't need a gas guzzling dually for that. This is perfect for "urban homesteading"
Not gonna lie I was expecting to dislike this car as soon as it popped up on my feed because it’s a knock off of the BAJA……but I would definitely get one of these if I was in the market for one….Hyundai did a great job with this car
I'm in love with this vehicle. Whatever you call it. Perfect for my needs.
I didn't even know this existed until your video popped up just now! Too cool.
its like a truck for guys who dont actually need the practicality of a truck. it has a nice interior and plenty of room. I like it for what it is .
Is it Hyundai season? I'm excited for the inevitable Elantra N review
