    When I did a " sign and drive" promotion at car show... we drove SS 50th convertible ( amaaaaaazing) it's the reason I got a SS.. but, the GM guy showing the car opened the hood and said " fist thing, take that junk stock airbox out and get a air charger kit!" Lol... I have done that to every car I own for 20 years but it was good to hear him say it! It doesn't hurt anything. It helps throttle & sounds amazing! It is a bummer GM didn't throw in a higher HP tune. 😞Thanks for vid.

    I'm curious about intake manifolds what's good? what's trusted? I know MSD has their Air Force and some other companies have their models. For me personally I would just go full exhaust with headers a cold air intake and a manifold but videos on installs out there on manifolds for the 6 gen's are pretty much hard to find if any, would like to learn more on it 🙏 plus a tune to top it all off

    • @bradleybarton9064
      @bradleybarton9064 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GM makes a great stock one. If you have a cam and headers or supercharger then a larger throttle body and intake may help make some added HP. Not saying it won't help any, just not a bang for your buck mod.

    • @that6thgen_2ss35
      @that6thgen_2ss35 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What me and others are doing are either buying the MSD intake or having the stock intake manifold ported. Which one is for you all depends on your build and what you are trying to accomplish. However, both are proven effective options.
      The positive about the MSD manifold is that it gains about 40 whp (on a NA engine with a tune) at the very top of the powerband. It also allows you to increase your rev limiter so that you can rev out longer and enjoy the top end gains. Also, you have the option of putting a bigger throttle body on the MSD if you so choose The negative about the MSD is that you lose low\mid rage trq on most NA engines with basic bolt-ons. However, there is a guy named Brett (aka Pray) who is porting the MSD manifolds to great results and mostly negating the negatives of the MSD while enhancing the positives.
      The second option (what I had done) is getting your stock manifold ported. The positive is that it is about 600 dollars less expensive to get your stock ported over buying a MSD. Also, performance wise you gain power (about 15-20) throughout the entire powerband. Power gains can be seen even on a otherwise stock engine as well. The negative about the ported IM is that it still falls flat on its face at the top of the power band and you don't gain the same top end power as you would on the MSD.

    • @bradleybarton9064
      @bradleybarton9064 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Torian Richardson is it falling flat because of valve float or running out of air? I'd say stock springs is a more likely culprit. But then again without seeing any Dyno results it's hard to say.

    • @that6thgen_2ss35
      @that6thgen_2ss35 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a much more detailed explanation on the Camaro 6 forums. However, the most likely explanation is that it is simply running out of air at the higher RPM's (Above 6000). If you think about it the springs can't be the factor because in tests between the two manifolds, the only change was the manifold itself. The MSD manifold is flowing more air than stock (or even stock ported). There is also a good explanation on why the MSD loses down low on the forums as well. However, at my current power level and because I don't spend much time over 6k rpm the stock ported is working great for me. If I was FI or cams\heads I would also probably go to the ported MSD manifold.

    • @Lethalgarage
      @Lethalgarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +David E if you plan to go FI save the $1000 and don't get a IM. Overall the MSD system extended the power band in the upper rpm range, but it requires a tune to dial it in. You also loose low end power.

    Why install this for $400ish if it does nothing on the dyno?

    • @Mr1troyd
      @Mr1troyd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For my 5th Gen ZL1, I installed the RF basically for looks, the stock air box looks like it came off of a Honda Accord, which is embarrassing by GM...any performance gains is a plus in my book. So I would say the same for the newer Camaros.

    • @Lethalgarage
      @Lethalgarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    People are stupid about warranties. Keep your factory airbox and tube and put it back on if you ever need warranty work done. Its funny some are afraid to get a simple cold air intake for "fear" of voiding warranty. Those are the people who cant do it themselves and need someone to install it for them.

    • @AaronPace93
      @AaronPace93 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GonzoTwn while that's true you can, it would get kinda old each time you have to go in to the dealer to put it back to stock. And while most dealers shouldn't care, I would be still afraid it would turn into a big argument

    • @bradleybarton9064
      @bradleybarton9064 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude the way the computers are in cars now as soon as you mod anything the computer shoots a code saying this was adjusted and your warranty is over. Look at the guy with the hellcat that had a known issue that got vin tagged and warranty voided for a air intake. Hell I can't put in a catch can due to the dealer I use saying it's a void. They agree it's dumb but thems the rules lol

    It completely makes sense that GM would have someone else engineer the cai. Why waste your own highly skilled engineer's time redoing what they already did for the stock set up. Let them work on bigger problems for 2018 and beyond. Especially when companies have already made amazing cai set ups for you. I love my Roto-Fab. Wouldn't drive with out it now.
