OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS FIXED MY FLUTE AND I WAS HELLA FREAKING OUT BECAUSE WE CANT AFFORD TO FIX MY FLUTE!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SAVED MY FLITE THANK U
Thank you! You just helped me fix my flute, the F key wouldn't work, tightening the adjustment screw was the solution to fixing the leak on the f# cup, brilliant! It works perfectly again, very happy. Have a lovely day!
F key? this is a common problem, 2 flutes had the same problem. I managed to figure it out and fix it by adjusting the screws by trial and error a little at a time and before i saw this excellent video. now all makes more sense.
I’m a beginner flute player and when I switched to low E to C it would just be pure air sounds. I immediately checked the screws and realized one screw was nearly about to fall off
I just want to say "thank you" to this helpful video. I bought a flute used and it wasn't playing correctly, so I tried to fix it myself. I couldn't fix it after a while and then took it to a store that said that it would be less expensive to buy a new instrument! They had no idea what was wrong. I watched this and now, it's fixed because I synchronized the proper screws. Thank you!
Very happy to know. I believe many flute owners out there can all benefit a great deal with simple adjustments. Don't fall for those money predators! Happy playing!
Thank you so much for the video. The local music shop is closed because of the pandemic and it can only do repairs by mail. Music is so important during this time to stay focused and happy. Your video helped us without have to mail it for repair. Thank you for the emotional rescue! Hope this message finds you in good health.
Thank you so much for your video. My flute developed a problem during rehearsal today and I have a performance in two days, leaving me no time to get it professionally fixed. I took my spectacles screwdriver, turned the screw and now I can play F again. And I feel so proud for fixing it myself. Thank you so much, you saved me money and time.
Thank you SO MUCH. F natural did not play for YEARS even after I paid for the flute to be refurbished. (ANGRY FACE!) Less than three minutes into your video and the flute plays beautifully through the C major scale now. Thank you thank you thank you! The magic of youtube!
Thank you! My main flute is in the shop for maintenance and my back-up just starting leaking. I just fixed the F# on my own with this video. So simple and easy.
Thanks for the explanation! I found the basics elsewhere first (ifixit tutorial and fluteland forums), but your video filled in the gaps perfectly. I've rehabbed brass before, but my son's flute is new territory. You helped us resynchronize the F and F sharp keys, when his director was inexplicably unable to diagnose and help with a very simple adjustment. Life skill acquired!
Thank you, thank you and thank you again. I'm so glad I watched your video!!! I couldn't play 'F' on my flute and I was so frustrated because I couldn't progress to playing scales. But I managed to fix my flute and now... It sounds just perfect.
Before watching this, I took a flat head screw driver and a hammer to my flute to adjust the lever that presses down the loose key when you press your right index finger. Was sure that would fix it. I was wrong. But, I haven't done much damage to it, it's reversible. I think this video will fix the issue I'm having, but it's the middle of the night and I can't test the flute. Tomorrow morning hopefully should be all good.
I also wanted to leave my thanks! I have different brand flutes where screws are in a bit easier spots to notice. Despite that, this video is an excellent teaching tool for me, to understand this all. Thank you so much! Excellent explanations, everything that's needed to know!
My wife's flute has this problem and I figured out what was wrong but it has no adjustment screws. She told me the ones with those adjustment screws are the student flutes. I'm not getting in over my head by trying to take this thing apart to adjust it properly. I ended up shimming that little metal piece with a tiny piece of Scotch tape, that got it working. She would have never let me tinker with her regular flute which is a silver Brannon Cooper that costs about $14,000. Unfortunately when her sister dropped her off at the airport she left that one in her sister's car and is having to use the backup flute. She is playing a gig tonight so we will see if my little Scotch tape shim worked, so far it is when she tested it. The backup flute is a Yamaha that she paid about $5,000 for with a custom head joint back in the late '90s. After we get this thing professionally cleaned and adjusted and working correctly it is for sale for $2,500 if anyone is interested.
Thankiew very much with ur help. But i have another key problem that is the D trill key and D# trill key. It could not released on time even after i released from pressing it
Hey my flute does not have the screw that tights the F# key and I have to fix the other key that F# controls, it does not seal completely and air leaks
+nestor ismael An old Yamaha 22N I had had one less adjustment screw as well as I remember, probably it was related to that key you mentioned. The proper way to adjust it is to add/reduce paper shims underneath the pad so it shuts at the right height. Don't bend/press the cup since it may break the linkage or get distorted. Good luck!
if you can insert a tiny piece of tape onto the front of the screw or the surface where the screw touches, that may act like "extending" the screw (like it goes forward more). otherwise, that key pad needs to be thickened (which is harder to do)
Not sure, could be a pad leak. Try use small pieces of scotch tape to tape/hole down the keys you cannot directly press. If this makes it play better, it's the key alignment. Otherwise, use more tapes to seal around those keys, and if that plays better, it's probably one or more pad leaks in those taped keys. Good luck!
Hi. On my flute, when I go to play f#, the key after 3rd key I hold down (furthest to the right when you play f) goes down and I can pick it up and have it wobble around. Does anyone know how to fix this or what's causing it? Thank you!
+littleninja3665 AJ Oh, could it be the spring got popped out (key dangling?) I couldn't understand TweedleDeeDum's description. Just check the the tiny think metal spring and push it back to place.

How do you even adjust it when there's a lever above obstructing the screwdriver...
An L shaped screwdriver?

Thanks for the video - as a sax player, I was unfamiliar with flute mechanics and adjustments - this was a helpful video.

I watched your video several times and did exactly what you said and it worked perfectly. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thank you! This helped so much, but I still ended up having to take my flute to get repairs😕
Best luck!
Thanks for the knowledge.
Most welcome, so glad it helped!
I've been failing band class this whole time and now I just find out that I don't suck, it's just the flute...
Thanks for your video, wondering if you have any tips for a seized adjustment screw?
Bravo. Is there a diagram showing where the 4 adjustment keys are?
How do you fix a stuck thumb key. It closes but won’t open back up.
could be a loosen spring
Thank you!
Hey my flute does not have the screw that tights the F# key and I have to fix the other key that F# controls, it does not seal completely and air leaks

I’ve tightened the screw for the A# cup all the way it will go and there is still a delay in the synchronization of the keys. Any advice?

@@weidesvideo thank you!!
Thank you
Most welcome, so glad it helped!
what if the screw isn't moving to the left or right
Could be a stuck screw rusted out? Perhaps applying a bit of the anti-seizure can help (use a cotton swab). Good luck!
I have a yamaha flute. Nowadays I realize that every 4 minutes I have to tighten two of the screws. They seem to loosen when I play. why is that?
locktight
My low D is not sounding. Any advice ?

Mine had the same promblem it's the screw driver I think it is missing...I don't know what's going on but maybe...the screw flew off..
+littleninja3665 AJ Oh, could it be the spring got popped out (key dangling?) I couldn't understand TweedleDeeDum's description. Just check the the tiny think metal spring and push it back to place.
+weidesvideo tried..that it just fell off I'm asking my teacher weds day I just don't know why it's dangling off
