      @@imperiallegatus395 Absolutely, there's a lot of marketing out there "130 Kw charging" this is deception in my opinion because those unaware will not be prepared for a huge increase in charge times when the battery is cold nor do they advertise that 130 Kw may only be achievable at very low SOC and I'm talking about my own VW id3 Tour 5 here.
      Instead manufacturers should refrain from advertising any Kw when charging and only advertise the 10-80% time in Summer and 10-80 % charge in Winter which can in some cases double the charging time.
      The slow charging of my id.3 T5 is disappointing because I've never seen more than 60 kw from 20% SOC but the battery is never up to temp being in Ireland the summers are often cold enough to require a dedicated battery precondition feature selectable by the driver, Summer Night time temps here can get as low as 8 Deg C or lower in places in July/August and normally day time temps don't go above 14-16 deg Max, average, There are exceptions but the point being I live in a climate where there is not mad swing in temps but it's almost always cool enough to warrant battery heating for fast charging.

    I wanted to say one thing regarding the placing of the charge port. I understand why you’re saying it’s the “wrong” side, however this positioning makes sense once you realize that it is well positioned for street parking charging (you’re supposed to park in the direction of traffic).

    • @FIGHTTHECABLE
      @FIGHTTHECABLE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cables are long enough to reach around the other side. And no the charge plug is not sticking out, cause your mirror is also there.
      Also, I have never had this so far and I have driven 90'000 km in electric vehicles.

    • @FIGHTTHECABLE

      @@bluebikerathar not quite sure of what you are saying. Anyways I have done 3000km in July, 1300 in September and another 3000km in Winter. Trips are calculated as return trip.
      According to your busy street theory and the danger of plugging in the car (which takes 10 seconds), do you exit your car on the right side, through the passenger door?
      Why is the right side better for charging at home? You need to park, so you can plug in your EV. Which means you have less space on your side to get out, if you are in a tight parking space. Cars got wider, but the parking spaces are still limping behind on that.
      I see no argument as valid.
      Also if you do not have that luxury like björn, then you wouldn't be buying a BMW i4 anyway.

    • @tuberichter

      Exactly, my cable is just to short when I have to use a charger here in Berlin. It only works with the left spot of the charging station. Otherwise I need to turn the car and park opposite to traffic, but this is actually not legal in Germany. So I would prefer the charger on the right side.

      What? Your comment makes no sense. How can the charger ever get in the way on the right side, which is the left side? Have you ever driven an EV?
      If you want to park in your garage and charge, you have to leave space on the right side, so you can plug in the charger. Which means you have LESS space on your side to get out.

      @@christianjoachimgruber2773 As stated in another comment, charging cales are long enough to get around the car. The Plug does not exceed that of mirror. And it is a rare occasion someone will park on the street to charge. Someone who buys a BMW i4, will have a garage to park it in. I have driven 90'000km in EVs and I mostly charge at home. The charge port being on the right side is the wrong way to go, you have less room to get out. IONITY it does not matter, but the Tesla SC are defined.

      @@FIGHTTHECABLE At the moment charge ports are popping up all over the car depending on the model so I don't see why I have to drive an EV to have a valid opinion on the matter? Talking about charge ports I'm still waiting on a manufacturer introducing a model with the charge port in the center of the roof which wouldn't be a strange place if you want to automate charging.(Not taking in to account the technical challenges of placing a charge port in the center of the roof) Now I'm wondering what kind of charger you are revering to? If it's the BEST side I strongly disagree with your argument.

    Why do you think that the charging port should be on the left side?
    The charging stations in the city are on the right side (driving side) so if the charging port is on the left side you have to put the cable on/over your car.
    It's also way safer to have it on the right side where cars don't drive by, just curious on your view.

    hi again, i dont know if im guessing this correctly? the advertised kilowatt you get for the kilometer is 461 km but drivable kilowatt seems to average at 300KM, so my guess is, the rest of the kilowatt power is reserved for the cars electric consumption usage? ie, heaters, fan, radio .... safety features ... and seem like this is normal for all EVs?

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that's not how it works. The range is reduced because consumption is higher. kWh available in the battery is still the same regardless.

    And no. The rights side is the right side for the charging port.
    Or you never charged your car on an AC charger over night at the roadside, like many people do in the city?
    The cable should not hang on the road / traffic side.

    • @M1e2m3e4x5
      @M1e2m3e4x5 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Street parking and ports on the left side can be solved via longer cables. The plug does not stick out more than a folded mirror either. However, in your average garage, where you leave space on the driver side to get out, you won't reach the rear right side - that is sitting close to the right hand wall of the garage - to plug in your charge cable without a major hassle.

    • @adammuc
      @adammuc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not the right answer for me.
      1. I will not mess around with clumsy cable on the traffic side, where busses and trucks passing you.
      2. If somebody hits your cable, a charging port replacement is fck expensive.
      3. Exactly. I’m the garage you just need 30cm for the charging port, but 1 m to open the door. So you can park next to the wall..
      And don’t have to step over the cable alway you leave or enter the garage…

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't need more than 2 seconds to open the charge port and plug in. If you really mess around so long just to plug in then EV is clearly not for you. And as already mentioned, the mirror is already sticking out. Passing traffic *must* have a safe margin to the parked car.

      @@bjornnyland I hav an electric car in a bigger city in germany. All Chargepoints along the road inside a city are on the right hand side of the road. Therefore if the chargeport is on the left side of the car i always have to put the cabel around or over the car. Thats why i think the right hand side of a car is the correct one for a charge port...

    • @rpgfightin4ever
      @rpgfightin4ever 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bjornnyland I think the issue is bloated: it's really not a big deal to have at least AC charging port on both sides. But also, side mirrors are made retractable specifically for that reason, not to be smashed in narrow street - and it is a luxury feature. So it's as if nothing luxury about the cable sticking out on the driveway.
