      I ordered my i4 M50 mid of September '21 and I still do not have an estimated date of delivery -.-... my BMW dealer told me that I might have to wait until next year ('23), because of sellout and no available quotes at BMW side.

      @@Calimeroeis BMW seems to be completely surprised by the demand for the i4 M50. I also heard that the car would be sold out by 2023. BMW is currently planning a second production line for the i4 to meet the demand, but that may take some time. I already made a pre-order in mid-June 21 and now had to wait 8 months.

      Cars are made for the most part, waiting in parking lots for chips to arrive. Cars come in batches. Like cookies. One week there is 200 ix3 next week there is similar ammount of ioniq5 etc. Has been like this since May. Probably won’t improve another 2 years as minimum.

      @@DarelBah that's not correct. As far as I know, electrical cars are not affected by the chips shortage, because BMW said that e-cars will be privileged, so that the problem here is not the lack of chips. The problem here is more that the production capacity is reached, because of too many orders and besides that my car dealer told me that only e-cars with a bigger battery e.g. i4 m50 or ix m60 are afftected, because BMW has problems to get these big batteries.

    AutoTopNL just tested the BMW i4 M50 100-200 km/h, and it was around 2 seconds faster than the Tesla M3P. 8 seconds vs 10 seconds-ish

      It should be quicker because more expensive but in the end it only matters on german Autobahn i rather prefer quicker 0-100(130) and let’s wait until Germany restricts that too

      Carwow also published a drag race between both cars : i4 won every time.
      But obviously, BMW comes at a very different price tag so I doubt a lot of people will be hesitating between 'em.

    About Silence: I always had my playlist running when driving my car. Since I skipped to an EV (its a Peugeot 2008, so other class, but its very quiet also according to Björns tests) this works much better, because the car is so silent, you can even enjoy classical music to its details. But surprisingly now, most of the time, I just enjoy the silence. Relax, myself while driving the car.

      Totally agree about the 2008, its good but its a lot noisier than a bimmer. But impressive car regardless. The tech is sometimes better than bmws…

      A million ICE cars are far more quiet than your EV.
      Even comparing exact same cars, like when Auto Motor und Sport compares X3's gasoline, diesel, hybrid and EV versions the EV was NOT the quietest!
      So many people come from their old cheap cars and have no idea how incredibly silent modern cars are. Even base model cheap cars like the previous-generation F20 BMW 118i or the Mercedes A-Class are sooo quiet. You simply can't hear the ICE engine.
      Rolls Royce when developing the new Ghost had to add in more noise because it was so silent that it felt unpleasantly unnatural.

    I'm just wondering how many of you in the EU region that have ordered/bought a performance car such as I4M50,Tesla3 Performance, Taycan, Polestar2 PP etc gave one single thoought about the cars self drivining capabilities? Most deffo not me, since in EU (atleast in Sweden) you're only allowed to have semi-sefldriving vehicles with anoying beeps and reminders to place your hands on steering wheel. I ordered the i4M50 so I can drive it myself and with a HUGE SMILE on my face 😁. Thank you Björn for the review.

    I have to agree the first three minutes is quite cruical with an asmr video, it quite nicely simulates a regular "get in and go" experience. Nothing beats the bings and bongs from a tesla.

    in the cabin, while driving i exceptionally like the blue-lights.
    it keeps you fresh. that's the Nr. 1. safety color against fatigability in the long run.

    You're going to like the 40 version of this car even more because that one should be pretty efficient but with the same charging curve. I think you should give the efficiency mode a try though. In the iX3 you can still set the temperature to individual settings even in Eco Mode. And unlike other EVs BMW also changes throttle response and how the secondary motor is used when in Eco so it does make a noticeable difference in consumption, at least from my experience.

    You are absolutely 100% correct that blinking left and then right in the roundabout is the best way to do it.
    Unfortunately many of the Nisser in Norway have been manipulated into believing that one should only blink "out" of the roundabout, but by then the accident have already happened since one didn't indicate that one would turn left and block the oncoming traffic!
    When turning left, blink left. When turning right, blink right. When turning straight ahead, blink straight ahead.

      Its not manipulation, in Germany its by law to only signal when exiting the roundabout, when you signal when entering a roundabout during a drivers test its a fault point. When you enter a roundabout you obviously either turn left or exit on the first chance and indicate right. I genuinely don't get how you would block oncoming traffic & cause an accident since cars in the roundabout have the right of way or why you should signal left when entering the roundabout. Would appreciate if you explain it more.

    Bjørn, one cool thing that you can do with the iDrive “joystick”: point your finger at the map first, it will change the map into the “target selection” mode. From then on, you can swipe your finger on top of the controller joystick, to move the target around the map, zoom the map in and out. It’s very, very convenient! Many people don’t know this trick :)

    Really looking forward to get mine in august. It's just a really good car who has all equipment that I find useful. Good lights, a good HUD, tow hitch and good soundproofing. I tested the car and the only downside is, it's a bit shortage of legroom in the backseat (where I'm not going to spend time). Boot was good with a easy access.

They are different cars but what type of car you prefer the more luxury one or this one that more sport , if you cant do that well i will wait for when you test i7 next year or something :P

    😳 I'm a BMW driver, and always use my blinkers. I have found over the last few years, there seems to be a complete lack of blinker use, right across the board. All the way around a big roundabout, in the wrong lane, with no blinkers. I see this on a daily basis. I seem to be one of the few people that actually use them. I wonder if it's because I learned to drive in the 80s, and things were different back then? Nobody seems to care anymore.

      it’s not that bad here actually (austria, slovakia, czechia, germany), but every time i visit italy… i’m speechless. not only are like 80% of the cars not using blinkers (on the highway), many will drive BETWEEN two lanes for extended periods of time 🤦‍♂️

    Cannot wait for the 5er touring version, full electric (but made from scratch to be electric, not like the i4). I think that will be the best combination of ride comfort + space, in a non-SUV body

      It's out and not made from scratch.. it shares same body as standard 5 series, keeps the drive tunnel for battery packs etc.

    Was in a work colleagues new 3 series yesterday, the interior is so much nicer than my model 3, it's not funny.
    Tesla have a lot to learn.

      The issue is that the interior is so much nicer ;) All that stuff weighs a bunch and costs money. Well at least that's one of the issues.

These luxury equipment put a lot of extra weight on plus the whole cabin is because of it much better quality and all the extra materials (aluminium,wood, leather, more screen, HUD display) best example: look at the inside of the door of Tesla and the i4, then you would not have complained about the extra weight!

      @@JavonAnonimni it’s not a ice platform! It’s a mixed platform. It seems like you’re not good informed and you’re lagging the knowledge in automotive manufacturing! A base 3 Series is about 1,645 tons with maximum equipment it weighs 1,965 tons. Same with a 7 Series! Base 7 Series 1,950 tons to 2,434 tons with full equipment. So luxury equipment counts a lot, the mixed platform causes maximum 40kg or 50kg.

      I've had a fully optioned G20 BMW. The interior was very good but its not perfect. Cheap plastic around the gear stick and hand break buttons for instance.

    Good vidéo and summary.
    The main pb of the car is the price.in m'y country, the i4 40 is 80% more expensive than SR+ and the M50 around 35% more expensive than a model 3 performance with roughly the same equipment.

    Cleaning the window on right side is a problem on bmw 3-series as well, it doesnt clean properly in cold weather

    BMW i4's higher weight actually improves the ride quality on bumpy roads further than the suspension and damping system and wheels alone.

    You dont compare to the Xpeng P7 Performance? Its much better than Polestar 2, when it comes to driving comfort, soundisolation++ Xpeng P7 is underated it seems, I liked it as good as M50. it also has the same premium door sound:)P7 also has CDC, Continous Damping Control, and its quite awesome

    In my Zoe it used to give miles per kwh. This made sense to me because a rough range guide would be to multiply this by the battery capacity.

    Could you please comment about braking, i heard that brake pedal is weird, till you press is not much it is not braking only regenerating, after it cannot regenerate more it starts to brake and pedal is very sensitive, brakes a lot instantly, is it true ? It sound that pedal pressing is very unproportional
    Also saw in another review that when you stop braking it continues braking for half a second and only then continues rolling, so it creates some kind of brake delay. any comments ?
    This all should cause very unpleasant experience. Remember when i was trying bmw 3 series a year ago, brake pedal was so sensitive like in go cart, just press it a bit and car was starting slowing down a lot. Not comfortable at all

    Hopefully my next car will be the i4 40. Of course with the iconic sound. To be honest it will be most of the time off, but it’s funny and for me it is worth it.

    I don't mind the iconic sounds tbh, it helps give a sense of speed. I wouldn't use it on all the time however. Take a manual box ICE car for example, you often change gear based on the engine sound. While there's no gears to change there are speed limits to stay inside however and if driving on track the sound will give a better sense of speed and maybe even help gauge braking zones.
    Will be interesting to see how BMW handle the software side of things. Some giving the i4 a bit of flack but worth remembering Tesla improved the Mod 3 over the years via software with OTA updates - something the i4 can also do and BMW have said improvements will be made. So, will it become more efficient over time for example? Even faster? Improve the driver assist experience?
    Buying for the long haul (10+ years) I'd buy the i4 any day if I suited my requirements. Heck, imagine what might have been if it was a bespoke EV platform. Overall package it's already better than the now long in the tooth Model 3 imo.

    During auto-steering, do you need to put pressure/resistance on the wheel with hand (to avoid read light) or just touch the wheel is enough? Thank you.

      @@delyas80 If this is true...that's what I was looking for. :-). My wife drives and Opel Mokka-e and you require to put pressure on the wheel. Means no useful at all. If you can just keen an hand on, (touch) that will be awesome.

      @@bjornnyland No, you don't have to apply torque on the sttering axis because it's capacitive. You just have to touch the rim of the steering wheel :)

    In residential areas in Germany, nighttime noise is limited to 35/45 db. This is usually from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m (daytime: 50 db).
    Industrial areas have 70db day and night and commercial areas 65db and 55db at night.
    Geofencing helps to keep the noise low.

      @@sergeikulichkov7748 Because the new i3 is based on the long-wheel base Chinese 3 Series. It would have to undergo crash tests and homologation in Europe before it can be sold here. Not sure if that would be worth it because in the end it may just cannibalize i4 sales.

    The I 4 40 should be a lot more efficient. Unfortunately it seems to me that the consumption differs a lot in summer and winter. I could notice this already in some reviews of the
    IX 3. What concerns the power, the I 4 40 should have more than enough for most with 340 hp.

      Problem is that everybody is testing this M version where i think the 40 would be much more interesting considering the range, preis, practicality etc. I personaly think about ordering the i4 40 this year at some point.

      @@kungula i know it takes around 10 months to get one but i still wanna test the car. Have a drive test in march so lets see. Im driving a diesel G30 right now and this would be my first EV thats why im a bit hesitant…the fear of unknown 😁

    Why does Tesla not have a better suspension❓air suspension or dynamic suspension- comfort, sport, snow, auto etc for model 3 and model Y🤔. The ride comfort is criticized by so many drivers.

      Rightfully criticized too. The model 3 is the single most uncomfortable car I’ve owned so far and I had something back from 1998 back in 2017.
      Tesla is probably cutting cost, but at the same time model 3/y are not sports car so the ride comfort is less than acceptable for daily driving.

      They're not a car company and have focused primarily on software and automation. BMW has decades of experience at making suspensions.

    There's a difference between energy per hour and power (in the sense of force) per hour.

      @@bjornnyland Although I technically understand it and personally have no issues with calculation in Wh/km, I think kWh/100km makes some sense. To my knowledge, electricity is billed by the kWh everywhere on the world, and not by Wh. And when comparing the efficiency of cars, people often calculate the price of the consumption. They know the price for one liter of gas and one kWh, and would need to divide it by 1000 if it was expressed in Wh instead of kWh.
      If you want a really weird efficiency metric, go for American "Miles per Gallon - Equivalent".

    Why arent mobile companies having deals with car companies when it comes to the infotainment systems. It makes so much sense since they are pushing for touch screens. The car manufacturers in house tech teams are somply not up to par with mobile phone screens. They need to be level by now.
